I reckon we got a good deal after Ballarat’s last few months.

And we’re selecting him in the mid season draft so he can be a playing forwards coach.

Rumour Future of the club (Bevo, board, assistant coaches, football department)

Agree mostly. Where he has let himself down is going too hard at a few. The comment about Cornes (roughly ‘why would someone sleep next to someone like that’), saying the club would never forgive Barrett over Boyd and his explosion at Morris just went too far. In each case there was a player...

I think 90% of her stuff comes from AFL HQ. I will give her credit for sticking to her guns over ASADA and Essendon but not much else.

Despite not being a footy guy when we got him, Cam is still very passionate about the club. Had to make some very difficult decisions and was extremely unpopular with elements of the playing group because of the things you refer to. We wouldn’t have a club if he hadn’t done them though!

I know one or two former movers and shakers at Richmond and Casey is a punchline at the club now. It’s hilarious how footy clubs attract these clowns, and even more hilarious how the end up running them.

Clinton Casey it was. The weird part was that it was even reported in the papers at the time, but the idea was that Casey would hook them up with the investments but they had to pay for them so it wasn’t a cap issue. Hilariously went up in smoke. I don’t know if we would have gone for Aker if...

I’ve heard the club’s account of the Brown negotiations and I think some were pretty happy to make that offer!

Yes there’s no point having our form yo-yo. I think Freo are ripe for the picking after their implosion on the weekend, but they’ve been competitive or good most weeks. A tight contest is fine but it would be deflating if they belted us and probably put us back where we were last week in terms...

Yeah a few classic howlers in a few games masked the progress a bit I think.

That’s all true. Bains’ response when asked if he’d expressed interest in staying was pretty telling though. He’s apparently had an offer in front of him for months and it’s not like he can use the ‘focusing on footy’ excuse. In my mind it’s no problem if he leaves as long as there’s reasonable...

There was a repeated suggestion in the media we were only $50k or so apart with GWS and refused to budge (or fell asleep at the wheel). Totally unverified and might have been rubbish. I have my doubts as he had just bought a house from memory and had to move interstate. I don’t know why you’d...

The other problem (stating the obvious) is height. When he was playing back they’d try to isolate him against taller players. You were basically giving up a few marks a week that another player could spoil. Again, if he got his usual 25+ touches and got us out of jail with some bullet passes...

Opinion North Melbourne Priority Picks Part 2 - 2023/2024

And after missing out on Martin and some other A Grade talent they brought in Polec on a massive deal (Pittard was the steak knives from memory). A very confused strategy.

Opinion North Melbourne Priority Picks Part 2 - 2023/2024

They also brought in guys like Nathan Hrovat. It was a badly thought out strategy, like they wanted to do a lightening quick rebuild with fringe players from other clubs at the expense of club legends. Anyway I have sympathy for the supporters who have had to put up with what followed. I’d be...

Opinion North Melbourne Priority Picks Part 2 - 2023/2024

The rot started when they delisted or forced into retirement a bunch of players (including Boomer and Petrie) in 2016 after they had just made the eight. I know they were nearing the end but they were also best 22 players or close enough to it and played in the elim final. Could have had a...

What They're Saying - The Bulldogs Media Thread - Part 4

I remember in 2018 she was trying to get something going on Footy Classified, saying it’s the biggest story in football that we weren’t playing finals and Lloyd just shut it down saying “they’re just really young again”. Lloyd hasn’t minded having a crack but I don’t think he cares about the...

No Oppo Supporters Non Bulldog Footy Talk - Bulldogs only - Part 5

I doubt Noble was a good coach but it goes to show how little a good coach can do if the list is terrible given Clarkson hasn’t improved things at all. Rocket, Malthouse, Worsfold, Wallace etc didn’t suddenly become bad coaches at their last clubs. It’s just that you can’t polish a turd. Will...

No Oppo Supporters Non Bulldog Footy Talk - Bulldogs only - Part 5

If you ever need a reminder of why a ‘gut and rebuild’ strategy can be a bad idea look no further. I remember when they forced their in form vets including Boomer Harvey to retire to play the kids, all of whom are now veterans or out of the system, back in 2017. They’ve not advanced even...

Rumour Future of the club (Bevo, board, assistant coaches, football department)

Right now Essendon and Melbourne are playing a bit better than us. The Essendon one was bad because we looked timid and haven’t looked timid in the other games. I think they’ll fall away like they always do but they are in form for now. Smashing St Kilda, GC and WC and taking it up to Geelong...

Hysteria is about right. Obviously if we were to implode he will get sacked but the furore at round five was a joke. Granted if it had been followed by being belted by St Kilda the jungle drums would start beating but the opposite happened. We are currently looking like a mid table side that...

Rumour Future of the club (Bevo, board, assistant coaches, football department)

I think with the way the season is panning out our losses have some context. Geelong are undefeated and Essendon and Melbourne are 4-2. The Essendon loss was diabolical but they aren’t terrible. Meanwhile West Coast are not as bad as we thought and Gold Coast are 3-2. We are probably mid-table...

I actually agree. We’ve had a lot of crises (particularly the three times in my lifetime we’ve been close to folding). Interestingly enough back around the Eade era some of my Essendon supporter mates said they thought we had a good culture. It surprised me a bit at the time but since the 80s...

The big knock on Lipinski was that his defensive efforts were poor and in particular his tackling. I don’t actually think he’s made that much progress on that score but it might just be something Collingwood don’t worry about for him. I do recall some pretty bad efforts (including a shocker...

If it happens I just hope we get fairer compo. We did fine in that we got Macrae with the pick we got for Ward, but Melbourne effectively got twice the compo for Scully.

His short dinky kicks under no pressure to the pocket aren’t the issue. It’s the total lack of composure when he is under pressure that are the problem.

Rumour Future of the club (Bevo, board, assistant coaches, football department)

It was a problem going back as far as 2016. Even in the prelim and grand final we missed plenty of gettable opportunities but control of possession gave us enough scoring opportunities to win so no one really cared. Well I sure as hell cared late in the third quarter of the GF when he had had...

I actually shudder to think how different things might have been if we kicked straight the last few years. Now it seems we might be turning the corner. I still don’t think we would have gone deep in finals but the number of close losses we’ve had where we just didn’t kick straight…
