I think one thing that hasn’t been mentioned in the Hawks-Tassie deal is the competitive advantage the ground gives the team. You can almost always bank 3 wins a year there, often the full 4, which makes it worth continuing, even at just 1-2 games, in my opinion.
I think only concern would be MCC. In years gone by, they’ve opened up tickets to provisional members prior to the bounce. Could see a situation where the ground is sold out but there’s some scattered empty seats in the top deck of the members. But would still hit 97-98k in that case you’d reckon.
I’d argue as well that Brisbane won’t be good forever, in fact they had an indifferent first two rounds this year. This fixture could be really critical to them if they fall back to the pack and the crowds drop off.
No I’m not getting ahead of myself - I appreciate this isn’t realistic in the leagues current format.
However, with the introduction of Tassie, an NT side, and potentially 2 others in the next 10-15 years, could we see this unfold eventually?
American sports such as NBA and hockey seem to do...
From memory, there were still tickets on sale when the gold allocation was scheduled to close, and the all of a sudden, the AFL posted a sold-out message and there were none left for silver. I’d be furious if I’d been a competing club silver member of 10 years. It’s disgusting.
I’m confused. I went to Saints Pies and the game was on the big screens in the Bunton. Can’t speak for Pies-Crows, however was at the Hawks-Swans thursday night and again, the game was on all the screens in the Bunton.
There are always plenty more supporters/members of both clubs who attend outside of the official members sales. AFL and MCC members always have a huge amount, with club support priority sales and in the mcc, members of competing teams often the most desperate to camp out early for the walk up. A...
Would have been lots joining the queue with multiple devices which inflates it a bit. Probably balances up when there’s people buying more than 1 ticket per transaction.
Not sure how this record compares to other sides, but just looking through some of my own clubs records this morning, and was amazed to see that Hawthorn haven’t been defeated in Victoria (their home state of course) by 100 points or more since 1995, where they were defeated by 102 points to...
Yep, amazing effort by the Pies that season. There’s obviously no comparables to Hawthorn playing 4 games a season in Launceston with the current stadium limitations - their figure would be well north of 1m if the games were played in Melbourne! Only argument against it you could draw is more...
If we hit 1m in 22 games next weekend, we’ll be the first side to do so playing at least 4 home matches in a sub 20-k capacity stadium.. Pretty awesome effort I reckon!
Probably not a coincidence as such, but I kept seeing 4-7-31 appearing in last nights match. Crows half time score, hawks 3/4 score, and hawks second half score!!
