Autopsy Got away with a win!

Personally looking forward to not having to read ‘big spending Saints’ in the title of another negative article detailing another loss. But I guess it’s harder to write, “Saints who legitimately created future cap space to go harder at free agency in 2025…..”.

Byrnes has experience and is pretty good depth and can run all day. Hopefully we stay fit and he doesn’t need to play much, but if called upon he can do a job. If we are to rise up the ladder next year we need experienced cover/utility players.

Toast Welcome to St.Kilda - RYAN BYRNES!

Medium midfielder who had an outstanding year with the Sandringham Dragons in 2019 with his prolific ball winning ability (particularly at stoppages) a real feature of his game. Had very good game sense and creativity with his hands at that time and has developed his leadership skills across...

How does us matching work? We had 55, did our next pick which is now 64 just get pushed back to cover the difference?

Great post! I always wanted Bassat to put his money into the club but it was actually his time that was needed.

Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

Nah, around pick 25 this year and an F2 from a likely top 4 club is not strengthening us at all in the short term and we have to nail a pick in a shit draft. Retaining Marshall is a much stronger position. Happy he stayed. F1 would have been a better deal. Not short term but more chance of a...

Understand the Steele trade makes sense from a list perspective, we probably needed the spot and helps us losing his salary, but man, I feel pretty sad about it. He was one of the few bright lights during a dark era for us, came in from GWS as a tagger who developed into an A grade mid...

Every time I see that I cringe about how badly run we were back then. Richo. Ameet Bains photoshopped as Jesus. Nathan Wright, Trent Dennis Lane, Ahmed Saad, Eli Templeton, Dunstan, Tom Lee, Markworth…..there were more too. Lewis Pierce, Brenton Payne, Minchington. Lonie, Saunders, Simpkin...

Also he’s only an RFA and Port will have plenty of $$$ to match whatever another club offers. So Geelong are going to have to pay full price. Which might cause Mackie’s face to change from boring to show an actual human emotion.

The GWS media team are usually elite. This is awkwardly unfunny. What a weird situation. Both GWS fans on the D&T thread seems to be angry that Aleer is staying but happy at the same time. Kind of like being upset that your Mrs ended up not leaving you for someone better looking with more...

Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

I’m sure even TDK knows he is the beneficiary of us pricing Carlton out of matching and essentially using the salary cap we had banked instead of draft picks to improve our list. I’m also sure other players at the club know this, and it’s the price of getting better. Aleer on the other hand I...

Reading between the lines, Cats are going to bid on Saints NGA Academy player Kye Fincher unless we do Marshall for unders. (Which is fine because we hate the academies anyway)

Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

If your list management team are kind of obligated to turn up to trade period anyway, it would be pretty boring to just sit around and not do anything I suppose. Weird place the AFL is in just now where contracted players think they will get to a destination that isn’t willing/able to offer a...

Recommitted Rowan Marshall [OOC 2027] - Requested Trade to Geelong, didn't get done

Impossible actually so what do you think the point is? That somehow Carlton would have just said yes to the offer that you put forward? It doesn’t sound like you’re doing a Hawthorn and trying to get the contracted players to burn bridges with their club. Genuinely not sure what the strategy...

The media won’t hold the Hawks to account. It will be commending a ‘bold approach’ whilst Essendon showed strength in retaining their player.

I reckon the club didn’t want to do it early in case it impacted other things like getting Flanders nomination. Imagine the uncertainty the media would have driven at a key point in our list strategy. I think that’s why we rushed to get all the trade business done early, didn’t play hard ball...

My wife: I just saw all the condolences on the AFL website, tributes from the Dogs etc….terrible news about Aleer dying. Me: what? No, he didn’t die, he’s just probably going to get about $500k next year instead of $700k. **Dramatisation, may not have happened

What I don’t understand is, why do players have to come out and publicly nominate a club if they want out anyway? Is it just to feed the chickens? Surely this stuff can be dealt with by the clubs and player without the need to make it all public? So Marshall is interested in Geelong, and they...
