Unofficial Preview Round 1, 2024: Bombers v Hawks, MCG 1:10pm Sat 16th March

I don't think that's quite fair on Chol. He has proven that he can be an influential player at AFL level. I think that being out favour with Hardwick at the Tigers and then shoved aside to make way for younger, developing forwards at the Gold Coast would leave a player feeling perplexed and...

Thanks for your solid contribution The_Axeman. I've looked forward and thoroughly enjoyed your reports over the years. . Your training reports read like a well written novel, its emotive and it draws you in. It's quite a talent and it's going be sorely missed around here. . Best of luck in...

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Calsher Dear!

Couldn't help but shed a tear when his name got called out. Well done young man. Your dad would be so proud.

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Nick 'the Wizard' Watson!

Don't get me wrong, I like McCabe and I'm certain he'll turn to be a good player. The comparison wasn't based on talent but merely just the physical development between the two players at this point. Curtin is plug and play and ready to go whereas I think McCabe might need a bit more bulking up.

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Nick 'the Wizard' Watson!

Problem is McCabe is very slight of frame and is at least a couple of preseasons away to have an AFL ready frame. Curtin is a 98 kg manchild and is ready to hit the ground running.

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Nick 'the Wizard' Watson!

I'm prepared for the daggers aimed toward me with this opinion. I'm not here to try to get a rise from anyone but here it goes I think for the draft price we paid, Watson needs to be a Cyril type talent. My preference was Curtin- I feel his assets will translate better in AFL. If he fails as a...

    Fixture 2024 Official Fixture Whinge

As a long time Hawthorn supporter I'm used to us getting the arse end of the fixture, gameday umpiring, tribunal decisions, All Australian selections, biased reporting from media the list goes on ... It's a given if you choose to follow this almighty team. It's like we're being handicapped for...

Opinion Can the Hawks make finals in 2024?

I'll put it out there that I think we'll beat the following teams next season: Eagles Beggaroos Freo Tigers Cats Dons Dogs Pies Saints That's a possible 9 wins, need another 4 from the double ups. So yes I think we will play finals.

Fair point. It was an incorrect use of a metaphor.

I like the look of O'Sullivan. Tall, big body, 92kegs. Marking and intercept type defender. Could well be developed as a stoppage/ gorilla. Might might well be a diamond in the rough.

Ease up fella, there's no need to get worked up. All I'm saying is that it's a bigger risk to take when using up a top 5 pick on a small forward. These types could be picked up in the late teens or further down.in the draft. It's merely an opinion and I'm entitled to express mine without...

Ultimate Glory 2023 Trade speculation and Shinbeggars discussion

Nice one, I know what you're getting at. I can name only 2 players in the AFL right now with Watson's stature that are better than average. Caleb Daniel and Kozzy Pickett. Two players within the entire AFL populous that are the exception rather than the rule. My point is a player like DGB...

Other than Reid, I don't know much about the the draftees. It's all a speculative pick anyway until they pull up a jumper for a senior AFL game and keep that form for the majority of the year. But if was a choice between Watson or Duursma- I would take the bigger, taller player everytime...

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn - Mabior Chol

From an optimistic perspective, the addition of Maboir and Ginnivan together should reap at least 50+ goals to the yearly tally. If we had close to a similar season injury wise in 2024 - it wouldn't be out the of the realms of possibility for the team to be pushing for a spot in the eight. As...

I've watched that final on t.v. Chol was the difference, he tore Box Hill a new one. But that was VFL and we are his 3rd club. He appears lackadaisical and non- chalant. The commentators even pointed this out. It looks to me that he treats it like a job - a means to make money and not someone...

Then we should pick him up for a direct swap in the view that Reid will want to go home in a couple of years. At the very least we will have 2 teams vying for him and we just have to make sure to extend the contract a year before it expires so there will be no repeat of the Brockman scenario...

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Jack Ginnivan!

Love having another campaigner in the team. Let's hope it's the Toby Greene type and not a Jack Stringer type Let's hope Sammy has enough pull to rein him right in if need be. With Ginni and the other forward additions I can't wait for 2024 to start

Overall, Hawks did ok Disappointed that we gave away Ryan cheaply. At the very least without a pre- season we know he can mark and kick a goal at AFL level. Still young and just entering his prime. I have a feeling this will come back and bite us on the ass. Hope to be proven wrong.

He has a perfect frame for an in and under grunt player but his lack of speed pulls his attributes way over to the negative. From the limited times I've observed him play in the seniors- when he takes off, it looks like he's moving in slow Mo whilst his direct opponent has already put 6 metres...

Don't want to lose Ryan, we've yet to see the best of him. From what we've seen to date, he looks good Picking up Chol will hopefully offset that if he decides to leave

If you were a young kid picked up in the draft at 44 ( I think) and was told to make way for stars like O'Meara or Mitchell it would be hard not to go into your shell. Worpel is a confidence player and I think that he feels like he finally belongs and contribute to the team on a consistent...

    Player Watch Jack Gunston!

Not everyone will be on the park at the same time though. There might be injuries to certain players (fingers crossed nothing serious) at different times. You saw throughout the year that different talls were being thrown forward to try out different strategies or find the right mix to optimise...

Sure, but if he was traded now who would pick up his slack? Nash and Newcombe can't do it by themselves. Moore? Ward? CMAC? Huswaithe? We would digress steeply in 2024 if we traded him for the sake of bringing in a tall. Robbing Peter to pay Paul and all that...

    Player Watch Jack Gunston!

I discussed this my cousin earlier about the possibility of Jack coming back. My view was that he could be useful in passing on his knowledge to the new, younger forwards like DGB or Ramsden. My guess is that his body will only have a couple of seasons left of AFL standard productivity which I...

Ultimate Glory 2023 Trade speculation and Shinbeggars discussion

What I observed from this season is that Worpel was seemingly unleashed without having to play second fiddle to O'Meara or Mitchell. He played with a bit of flair with flashes of the coaches' signature moves on display on a few occasions. Which indicates that he's teachable and that he listens...

What are the question marks over your team in 2022?

Pretty confident with how our backline is stacking up. Hawks midfield will find a sweet spot and I believe will find a good balance that would make Hawthorn more competitive. With two of the most prominent midfielders in the their day- in Mitchell and Harvey I'm sure some of their knowledge...
