Prediction Round 9 Changes vs Hawthorn

In defence: Talls: Pearce -> Gunston (He is the barometer for them, so I think Pearce needs to go to him - also brings Pearce to the ball) Cox -> Lewis (Tallest but I think Cox is much more athletic, better in the air and can also hurt on the rebound) Ryan -> Dear (This is giving some height...

Prediction Round 9 Changes vs Hawthorn

I feel McCluggage is probably the most high profile player to spend significant amounts of time on the wing at the moment although he also rotates into the middle quite a bit as well. Levi Ashcroft appears on the other wing quite a bit as well, although he feels more like an inside midfielder...

2nds The Peel Thunder Thread (Round 6 vs. East Perth @ 2.30pm Sat 9th May on 7plus)

Yes the Draper goal was him following the play and yes Nicholls rucked inside forward 50m. I did think there were times in the game where Draper was stationed forward, but generally he was most of the time in defence, then backup ruck.

2nds The Peel Thunder Thread (Round 6 vs. East Perth @ 2.30pm Sat 9th May on 7plus)

He is going okay; he has more presence than he did last year and is very much the first forward picked at Peel this season and a difficult matchup with both height, jump and good hands. I feel he should be kicking more goals than he is at the moment (he has 8 from 5 games so far, only one...

2nds The Peel Thunder Thread (Round 6 vs. East Perth @ 2.30pm Sat 9th May on 7plus)

I went to bed around 3/4 time, but some additional thoughts: - O'Driscoll and Banfield looked most ready to step up to AFL level if needed. Not massive possession wise (both had over 20) but just were clean with the ball and did their positional things as well as taking the game on. - On...

2nds The Peel Thunder Thread (Round 6 vs. East Perth @ 2.30pm Sat 9th May on 7plus)

West Perth are not really there, but one wonders if JLo being in the crowd is also getting a few of the freo players up and excited? I thought Draper in the ruck in the Q2 was quite convincing, and he was pretty good when the ball was at ground level.

Review R8 Freo Wins the Dog Fight

There are two things I do these days - one is (if not there in person) watch with the sound off, two, don't look at the match day thread - the issue with both is just the sheer number of "comments" that I feel an impulse to respond to, and that overload just leaves me feeling unnecessarily...

Review R8 Freo Wins the Dog Fight

Good game overall - some thoughts: Murphy going to the Bont didn't stop Bontempelli racking possessions but at times he got totally burnt the other way, maybe more than the other way - don't know if that was a per-meditated play but it sure worked. Switkowski often gets blamed for not being...

Prediction Round 8 Changes vs. Western Bulldogs

I mean, Longmuir clearly said in his press conference that the instruction/intent was to keep attacking and taking the game on (this was also confirmed by Luke Ryan in his Monday interview). Of course as has been highlighted here we also put a number of our best players on the bench, so we were...

Crazy idea moment: I wonder if Robinson could work as a mobile ruckman? I am wondering about this as he is tall, good in the air and he is good with taps and generally with his hands - that would mean that when the ball comes to ground he is competing with a ruck as basically a fourth midfielder...

    List Mgmt. 2026 List Management

IMO (and apologies if some of this sounds brutal): Ollie Murphy (Main List) - Not saying that he hasn't got some good AFL attributes or that he is a bad person, but I just don't think he is an easy fit into an AFL side. Jaren Carr (Main List) - Good size at 191cm but I don't think there is...

Prediction Round 8 Changes vs. Western Bulldogs

Changes for the game against the Bulldogs: I think we need to make a real call and drop Luke Jackson; he has just not been making enough tackles the last 28 weeks and his height is really in-between for a ruck - he is going to get absolutely thrashed by Tim English who will totally exploit his...

Prediction Round 8 Changes vs. Western Bulldogs

For those advocating for Simpson, what exactly did he do at WAFL level yesterday to justify being brought in? He had 15 disposals (many of them being kick ins), was caught off his man multiples times, had no tackles where Subiaco's smalls were running riot, but he also did very little...

    List Mgmt. 2026 List Management

For mine Dempsey is a better runner, better defensively positionally (he was a huge factor in Geelong's defensive strategy - filling space on the fatside) but also better offensively as well - 0.6 goals a game versus only 0.4 across their careers; last year Dempsey kicked 35 goals whereas Martin...

List Mgmt. 2026 Young Talent Time

The squad is always a mix of potential versus merit versus interest groups but I don't feel like the AFL clubs are of particular influence this year round. Yes WC have a few from their academy but most are names that have both been around for at least two years and (for the few games played so...

I thought Robinson played really well today, even if the stats didn't show it. In particular his disposal and decision-making was fast and accurate, his pressure was also really good and he was a good marking option around the ground. I also liked the goal that he kicked in congestion.

Yes only just saw Docker82 post but it is clear most teams don't believe they can get more run out of the bench because the cap on rotations - it plays out that way in the numbers as well if you look across the team TOG%. Basically the "23rd player" is very close to the sub, except you have...

Early days and it really depends on how he goes at the U18 championships but George Gale looks like he could be an attractive tall midfielder prospect in this draft with a 28 possession game to followup his 32 one the week before. Lingsface I think was saying that he was playing mainly as a wing...

2nds The Peel Thunder Thread (Round 6 vs. East Perth @ 2.30pm Sat 9th May on 7plus)

I think it has been pointed out many times that the problem with Sharp's kicking which makes it significantly worse that those other two is that he only has one side; whereas JOM and Erasmus (whilst their kicking has not been exactly stellar) are kicking off both feet, which makes them harder to...

Prediction Round Six Changes vs. West Coast

If Frederick is ready then him for Scerri is replacing a "like for like" and gaining some extra experience and also marking ability. It sucks for Scerri as IMO he was playing well; but hopefully will spur him on to make greater strides to get another shot later. For the other change is for...

Review A Soggy Miracle in Gather Round - Six Point Win vs. the Pies

I didnt listen to the commentary and it was a really exciting game; again I think people are not giving their dues to the opposition; N Daicos played a brilliant game in the wet as did a number of their tall midfielders and defenders played really strong games in the wet, with only their forward...

    Coach Justin Longmuir Pt 2

I thought it was interesting when asked at the last press conference whether the team had greatly improved this year, he emphasised that the improvement in results had come from particular individuals (rather than the team as a whole). Outside of the question of whom those individuals are, he...

Prediction Round Five Changes vs. Collingwood

Unpopular thoughts, but by his own admission I reckon Dudley is close to the bottom 5 picked if not in it already. Erasmus also would be close to this group, and I can see him being dropped before O'Meara in certain (not all) circumstances. Don't get me wrong though, I'm a fan of both. But in...

Prediction Round Five Changes vs. Collingwood

Agree he is pretty strong in defence , particularly in filling holes and hence why I doubt he will be dropped. I reckon a lot of his "critical clangers" come from him trying to kick from a standing start where he tries to chip the ball quickly 20m. If he has marked the ball, he could pedal back...

Prediction Round Five Changes vs. Collingwood

According to AFL Tables: Nick Daicos averages 3.94 clangers a game across his career, with the number of clangers increasing from his first season of 3.5 clangers a match to current season (and last season) being 4.33 clangers a match. Will Ashcroft averages 2.57 clangers over his career but in...

WAFL Colts stats watch on some of the potential draftees: Benji Van Rooyen (Ruck) - 26 Possessions, 5 marks, 7 tackles, 16 hitouts, 3 I50s, 1 Goal Koby LeCras (Midfielder / Forward) - 17 disposals, 4 inside 50s, 1 goal Garrison Kenh (Midfielder / Defender) - 25 possessions, 7 marks, 4 tackles...

Hamish Davies, Koltyn Tholstrup, Bo Allan, Clay Hall, Elijah Hewett, Kayle Gerryn, Darcy Jones are recent ones that played reasonable games (7 or more) at senior level and had decent impact at that level. Since Naughton, high picks that played decent senior WAFL games: Logan MacDonald went 4...

Review Freo Sail Around The Horn And Get Lost But Make It In The End - Two Point Win vs Crom

A thought specifically on the goal kicking; for mine fatigue is a massive factor in goal kicking accuracy. The biggest reason we are missing a lot more set shots is that we have our main three tall forwards out on the field for very long % of time - if you look at TOG for our players over the...

Review Freo Sail Around The Horn And Get Lost But Make It In The End - Two Point Win vs Crom

Thoughts: For mine Adelaide are one of the top offensive sides, they threw the kitchen sink at us and we survived the onslaught at their home ground - really proud of the team. We kept looking to score, rather than in previous years we would have shut up shop and held on- this is also a good...
