Looking forward to the players having a real fire in the belly after their last quarter capitulation against Frankston. After the seniors' win tonight, anyone looking for elevation to the seniors anytime soon needs to make every post a winner.
Dane has his father's footy brain, he reads the play better than most, his foot & hand skills are almost elite, he can take a good mark, but he doesn't have the build to go one-on-one with big forwards.
Charlie shared his time between midfield & half back whilst playing for the Sandringham Dragons. Sadly he was just a bit too vanilla. There was no really outstanding features about his game.
Still remember the goal he kicked in a pre-season game from the wrong pocket for a left footer. An amazing checkside which seemed to defy all laws of physics (not that I'm an expert on physics).
Just running onto the field before the game makes them brave.
My late mum, my sister, my half brother, my Auntie, a couple of her kids, my sister-in-law, her father all follow/followed the Dopers but somehow I can't find it within myself to have any sympathy for such a cheating club.
Don't be expecting Motlop to be a prolific goalkicker. He is not a small forward in the Betts/Cameron/Walters mold. He seems to be playing his best football in the VFL as a high half forward, with the occasional stint in the midfield.
Both Philp & Kemp have had long injury lay offs in their relatively short time at the club. With their fitness & confidence they are still playing catch up.
Sometimes "bashing the ball fwd" can be an effective weapon. This is dependent on your midfielders running hard (we've seen Pittonet do it a few times this year with Walsh running hard to get to the ball first) & your half forwards ensuring they clear space to enable your midfielders to...
In 50 years of watching VFA/VFL footy I have never seen a more heartless effort from a team containing the talent of this Carlton VFL team than what we have just witnessed in this last quarter. Not one Carlton listed player should expect elevation to the seniors next week. Not one of them has...
He plays from behind too much & doesn't take many contested/pack marks. He's also a 'tweener'. Not tall enough to play KPF & definitely not a small forward. VFL is his level.
In the words of Peter Landy, "Werribee ran out of petrol tickets".
In the 2nd half of the last quarter we found plenty of space right across the ground as Werribee's intensity dropped right off. We had 40 more disposals than Werribee in the last quarter.
The club will happily take the 4...
The difference between the 2 teams so far is work rate. Werribee are getting more numbers around the ball in all parts of the ground. Their pressure is better than ours.
Our forward entries have been quite ordinary, allowing the Werribee defenders to easily kill any marking contest.
The one...
I see Weiters has suggested he & the other leaders need to get around the team when their output starts dropping off (or words to that effect). I seem to remember mentioning this earlier in the week.
You can bet back in the '90s the likes of Kernahan, Williams, Silvagni etc would have been...
Watched the game again, without the emotional involvement.
Don't need to say too much about the 1st half, other than us not yet being developmentally at the stage where we can sustain this footy for 4 quarters.
It was painfully obvious that Port lifted their intensity/pressure significantly...
We can now take some comfort in knowing a 49 point half time lead is just enough to get us over the line. Anything less & we have a right to be very nervous.
'Immaturity'. This is what Vossy is facing with our list at the moment.
I liken the plight Vossy is facing at the moment to that of a primary school teacher. Most of the students are enthusiastic & engaged in the morning. After they have their lunch break they come back to the classroom...
Willo seems to fit into a category in which the club is quite well served, i.e. running defenders. I think the problem for Willo is that he doesn't always provide effective run. I'd almost go as far as saying he has a touch of Paul Bower about his game. He knows how to get the ball, he's...
Handley unlucky, but with the availability of 14 AFL listed players there was going to be some hard luck stories.
I don't remember the JGM incident, but I'm not sure his absence will be noticed. He has been quite ordinary so far this season.
Prespakis & Gee need to make sure the door doesn't hit them on the way out.
The club will always be bigger than the individual & the Navy Blue jumper will always be the best.
Unpopular Opinion
Levi Casboult is an extremely ungrateful moron. He has played more AFL games than he should have because of how ordinary we were for so long. Other AFL clubs weren't exactly knocking down our door to take him off our hands.
He is no longer part of the Carlton family. He...
