  12. Port Adelaide 1870

Collingwood 1927–1930 “Machine” era restored in colour

That era has untapped gold in it. Clubs sit on a mountain of heritage imagery and stories, yet most merch stays stuck in generic modern designs. Supporters would buy history if it was presented properly.
  13. Port Adelaide 1870

Collingwood 1927–1930 “Machine” era restored in colour

Appreciate that. A heritage range would have legs — tees, patches, mugs, stubby holders, postcards, even framed card sets. The old Machine era imagery has real style and history behind it, not just modern logo merch. Charlie Dibbs, Ted Parker, Albert Collier, Syd Coventry etc would make a strong...

  16. Port Adelaide 1870

Where does the 1954–59 run sit in Port Adelaide’s history?

Interesting — so when does a comp actually become “national” in your eyes?
  17. Port Adelaide 1870

Where does the 1954–59 run sit in Port Adelaide’s history?

Interesting how split it is. Some see it as the foundation… others just one era in a long run of success. Laying it all out together made it feel less like “a moment”… and more like a standard the club set.
  18. Port Adelaide 1870

Collingwood 1927–1930 “Machine” era restored in colour

Hard to get your head around just how dominant that side was over those years
  19. Port Adelaide 1870

Where does the 1954–59 run sit in Port Adelaide’s history?

This is what I meant by laying that whole run out together

  21. Port Adelaide 1870

Where does the 1954–59 run sit in Port Adelaide’s history?

My experiences with the club began at primary school in the late 60's ,we also had a business in Royal Park, where players would regularly stop by, I was star struck as a boy. I'd ride my bike to Alberton and stand outside the grandstand window to read the big Sign written achievements board...
  22. Port Adelaide 1870

Where does the 1954–59 run sit in Port Adelaide’s history?

It really seems to be about identity, The identity side of it is what stood out to me as well — more than just the number of flags.
  23. Port Adelaide 1870

    One more from that era

  25. Port Adelaide 1870

Where does the 1954–59 run sit in Port Adelaide’s history?

I've been revisiting the 1954–1959 stretch lately. Six straight flags obviously stands on its own, but I’ve always wondered how people frame it within the club and supporters overall — especially now in the AFL era. Do you see it as: • the foundation of what Port became • a standalone...
  26. Port Adelaide 1870

Collingwood 1927–1930 “Machine” era restored in colour

That’s the thing with that era, a lot of those players had that same presence about them. Different game, but the standard they set still stands up.
  27. Port Adelaide 1870

Collingwood 1927–1930 “Machine” era restored in colour

A very humble looking man, an outward humbleness that belied a remarkable legend in the history of the VFL
  28. Port Adelaide 1870
