Media Thread 2026: Insightful, Inciteful and Incomptent

Sounds like Duffield is on the WCE payroll. Results don't matter, as long as we get games into the kids and they can go into the next preseason fit and healthy. If that is the case, do we just tune out until 2027.

Coach Welcome to West Coast: Andrew McQualter

I thought the Senior Coaches wages (or part of) were going to be excluded from the soft cap. It was raised by the VIC media around the time of the Geelong investigation, with Chris Scott’s CEO position at a Finance company. Was this just a media talking point at the time?

Coach Welcome to West Coast: Andrew McQualter

The old Richmond game plan doesn’t work anymore, that’s why they stopped using it. It also looks way worse in our case because we don’t have great small forwards applying pressure and locking it inside 50. When McQualter started we all hoped we were getting an improved Richmond game plan...

    Oppo Camp Non-Eagles Discussion 2026

Not to mention that the original intent of the Northern Academies was to grow the overall AFL talent pool. Which could be shared amongst the league. If they want to go a transfer fee system I assume they will be paying fees to the WAFC, SANFL and vAFL for kids drafted from those states:drunk:

Prediction Round 8, 2026: Changes vs Richmond

Our attendances / memberships are high because members are afraid of losing their seats if they want to sign on in future years. Guarantee you if the club offered 3 or 5 game memberships ( which could be upgraded at a later date), there would be a lot of takers. Obviously, full season...

Prediction Round 8, 2026: Changes vs Richmond

If AFL is an entertainment product (like everyone keeps saying) then West Coast are no longer entertaining. As fans all we can do is stop going to games / buying memberships / subscribing to Kayo etc. ATM the club probably thinks the fans are happy enough and the only negativity is coming from...

Prediction Round 8, 2026: Changes vs Richmond

Well according to Woosha, what happens between flags isn't that important. So we are really celebrating 4 years.

Review Strategy changes to turn this thing around

I thought Mini played the tall forward line to get games into Archer, CDT and Shanahan. However, when Archer went out he brought in JW to replace him. Maybe he just doesn’t rate the smaller options? Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.

    Injury 2026 Season Injury Thread

I think we should lay off calling Edwards’ career over. Unless someone has some genuine inside information ( like with Gov), there is no reason to go to worst case scenario.

Sucks for him. Hopefully he recovers OK. 3 season ending injuries by round 5, plus a few other long term and TBCs. Thank god we used the SSP spot on Murdoch and didn't hold the spot for the MSD.

    List Mgmt. 2026 Trade/Contract Discussion

Watching Mac Andrew playing bulk ruck minutes against the Swans. Moyle making the AFL side looks even further away. Too good for VFL. Surely, he would be considering his options. Doubt he comes to Perth, but nothing wrong with making some early enquiries.

Coach Welcome to West Coast: Andrew McQualter

Of all the current AFL coaches only Mitchell is overachieving with an average list. It’s still too early to rate Mcqualter one way or the other. I think he has a good relationship with the players and maybe a good development coach. My main concern, is whether his high intensity game plan is...

    List Mgmt. 2026 Trade/Contract Discussion

Look at our trading history. We paid pick 14 for Baker. Pick 30 for a former pick 3 (with no injury or personal issues) is not realistic in my opinion. I am sure Freo would happily flick their first rounder to Gold Coast in exchange for Walter.

    List Mgmt. 2026 Trade/Contract Discussion

Hypothetical for all you Walter fans: We finish 16th (Natural pick 3) Richmond bid on Cochrane with 1 or 2. We will receive an AFL bonus pick (around 23). Our second rounder will be around pick 30. How do we pay for Walter? First rounder is too low (and we can no longer split it). Second...

Definitely sucks. Will be interesting to see if he can maintain his high energy style of play, without causing further injury.

Media Thread 2026: Insightful, Inciteful and Incomptent

I feel like Harley gets umpired the same way as Toby Greene. The main difference is, Toby has been suspended for a total of 15 weeks. Harley has only been suspended once (for a tackle that would have been legal 5 years ago).

AFAIK Rogers is a Queenslander with no links to WA. Can understand why we would be interested, but can't see why he would come to WA. If he wants more game time he will get offers from other East Coast clubs.

    List Mgmt. 2026 Trade/Contract Discussion

When was the last time we underpaid / got a bargain at the trade table. Even if Walter has a quiet year, he is still worth a pick in the teens in a trade. We won't have a pick in this range, so the only way to get it would be to split our first pick. This makes it harder to get the elite...

Sanders probably only leaves the Bulldogs if they get Butters. He will get offers from other Melbourne clubs. Highly unlikely he would come to WCE.

    Oppo Camp Non-Eagles Discussion 2026

The AFL sold the Northern academies as a mechanism of increasing the talent pool for the whole league. As seen with last year and Addinsal example, this is not the case (yet anyway). The fact that all the teams have been given their own academies now, further reinforces that the Northern teams...

Game Day Preseason, 2026: West Coast vs Port Adelaide

Unfortunately, we've all seen this movie before. One positive is, preseason expectations have been reset. This team won't be expected to beat anyone (maybe North if they have an off day). WCE always seems to perform better, when there are no expectations placed on them 🤞

Is there a mature small forward in one of the state leagues we could pick up? I think Freo got good value out of Dudley as an SSP last year. Something similar would be good.

    List Mgmt. 2026 Trade/Contract Discussion

Thanks for that. It still isn't clear how players qualify for the Mini Draft. If a player (e.g Axel Walsh) refuses Tasmania's 2026 offer, does he automatically go into the Mini Draft, does Tassie nominate him for it or does he nominate himself? I think Tassie could potentially grab some club...

    List Mgmt. 2026 Trade/Contract Discussion

It looks almost certain that Axel Walsh will end up at Tassie (if he continues to develop at the same trajectory - potential 1 pick). He can either go at the end of 2026 (and get paid for 2027) or get drafted by Tassie with their number 1 pick (assuming this is part of their package) in 2027...

If you were a top 8 team Hill could be worth the risk, as he could potentially win you a final. We need players to play as many games as possible (so not viable for us).

Expectations for 2026 (Now discussing: Our next two months)

Increase our average clearances by 5 and inside 50s by 4. If we can do that, we should win some games against fellow strugglers (North, Richmond, Essendon and Melbourne). May even pinch a win against the next tier (Power, Dockers, Giants).

Society/Culture Notional Take Back Australia Day

There has been a lot more coverage of Lachie Neale's infidelity, compared with this domestic terror attempt. What does that say about the Australian media and consumers of it''s content?

If Hutchison has a LTI, then that is all the more reason to end the Maric to defence experiment. Move Maric to the forward line to take Liam Ryan's position.
