Ablett was the more mercurial but Carey was the player you built the team around and has the flags to show for it. Probably should've had 3 but they threw away the 98 flag. Yeah he might've had a better team around him too but those early 90s Cats teams were no slouches either.
Ablett will...
I thought Macrae was injured, was he fit and just not selected?? And Caleb Daniel as sub??? I think Beveridge has well and truly jumped the shark, he won a flag and he'll always be a hero to the Doggies supporters but he's been there what 10 years now? Probably should've left after last season a...
OP is right about the heat but wrong about the solution.
The problem is not when the season starts/finishes the problem is the season is too long. 25 rounds plus 4 weeks of finald is ridiculous (and unnecessary).
Reduce the season to 17 games plus a bye plus finals and you can play...
The problem is you are setting up something which you're not even sure how to achieve and which is impossible to measure as a pre-requisite of creating a fairer funding model. Sure, take a look at what can be done to improve the level of respect teachers receive but I don't see why you think...
Of course because lobby groups will always kick up a fuss and the media runs the PR campaign. It's why this country is stuffed and there is rarely any policies implemented which are in the national interest.
I don't necessarily disagree with you and the national curriculum may be good, though it does further centralise things and give the commonwealth greater power over the states in education which I think could be problematic.
I just think the first steps towards any changes is a review and...
That's not really a proposal for change though. You've said increase funding with all increased funds going to public schools however this does nothing to address the public funds going to private schools who should not be receiving it. Depending on the level of increase it also doesn't address...
Not formal expulsion, not as blunt as that. But certainly a coercion or suggestion that the student may not be suited to continue at the school. I have heard enough instances to know it happens and not isolated (maybe more so at the higher fee schools).
Always back self-interest etc but what they don't get is it is in everyone's self-interest to have better funded public schools as it contributes to a better society in the long run. Short sightedness will never acknowledge that though.
Cool, then we agree that public funds can be directed to public schools as they should be.
The people I know who have chosen to send their kids to private schools would do so regardless of the cost. Some are at the higher end of fees some are lower but all would continue doing so if fees...
Fine, we can start by removing any government funding going to those elite private schools and being redirected to the public system. Then we can review and start cutting funding to the rest of the non-government schools down the track. Gotta start somewhere.
That's not evidence, that's your assumption. The majority of smaller/less elite private schools will survive, they'll just charge a few thousand extra a year or cut back on upgrading their facilities as frequently. I don't see a run of private schools closing based on government funding being...
Hmm so it's a component of the separation of powers which I understand. Still would like to see politicians held to account for what they say in Parliament, elections are well and good but at the end of the day it isn't a true reflection on the accountability of the individual, more on their...
