Who will win the 2014 rising star?

Dunstan wouldn't be in the Pies best 22, Langdon clearly is. On the topic of Dunstan, whilst he's had a terrific first season he strikes me as a player who has peaked very very early. If your talking about attributes then he's slow, short and isn't particularly good at anything. He reminds me...

Grundy but I don't think Longer is much good tbh.

st kilda are awful and we're seriously out of form atm

Pendlebury, the best clutch player in the game.

Yep this irritates me to no end somebody needs to teach him what a sample size is. At least he's trying to deliver something unique to commentary which is better than can be said from almost all the AFL special comments guys.

    Mason Cox...showing some promise

I don't get how people can think this is a bad thing. We get a guy is 210 cm and can run fast for free, how is that a bad thing?

Opinion Nat Fyfe contracts on hold until end of season

Fyfe would be perfect for us given we aren't the strongest at stoppages and that Swan is starting to slow down.

Pies players lose confidence in Cloke

A better explanation would be that the coaching staff in the preseason felt that we were one dimensional in our forward thrusts and have adjusted the gameplan accordingly. Cloke is so important to our forward set up that he'd be worth a game even if he were getting 0 disposals every week.

    Schulz or J.Riewoldt

Not enough credence has been given to how their respective teams are going. How many more goals do people think Riewoldt would have kicked if he had Port's midfield kicking to him instead of Richmond. Likewise, if this thread were made two seasons ago when Port were garbage it would been locked...

    Josh GIbson V Dale Morris

Gibson but only because he gives a bit more on the rebound and his position of 2nd kpd/third man up is more important than Morris who is more of a 1v1 shutout type. Both terrific players and careers though.

    Brendon Goddard v Luke Hodge

I don't know how this is really a debate, Goddard has at least been as good as Hodge to date (arguably better) and still have many years of good footy left him which Hodge doesn't. Hodge doesn't even win in the big game player category which Hawks fans love to pull out when they're losing an...

    Opinion The Rebuild Thread

Far from it. I can't stand the way Puopolo goes about it and don't think he is very good at all. The reality is though he keeps on getting a game in a very good team so he must be doing something they value. Shiels I do think is a bit underrated in that he's a role player who can also find the...

    Opinion The Rebuild Thread

Perhaps but their player development is one of the best in the comp and there is plenty to work with there in terms of talent. It could work the other way and Garlett becomes the top small forward in the comp

    Opinion The Rebuild Thread

All 5 of those players would be certain selections at Carlton at the moment imo, even Spangher (who isn't as bad as people think). Whereas at Hawthorn only Shiels and Puopolo would get games in a final. Do you seriously believe that there is not much difference between the talent of the two...

The chicken little 'season is over' thread

There's not much chance of MM delisting him though, he loves those types of players. The problem is they're not much use in modern football. On MM, if Carlton don't think he will still be there in 4-5 years time they should delist now. As I think you said, it always takes a coach a year or two...

    Opinion The Rebuild Thread

Players like Robinson, White, Ellard, Rowe, Lucas, McLean and Belle wouldn't be on Hawthorn's list let alone their best 22. There is a huge difference between the talent of the teams at the moment in almost every aspect. Hawthorn is an interesting team to compare with though given where they...

The chicken little 'season is over' thread

The problem with White is he isn't that good a defender to being with and he offers nothing of value on the rebound. To be a top side in modern AFL football you can't afford for your second or third defender to give nothing on the rebound. Even though White played well on the weekend, unless he...

    Scott Pendlebury.

Ablett is both a better inside and outside midfielder than Pendlebury is. He has been the clear best player in the competition for a long time now and most of that period has him playing in a side where he is the only player opposition teams think about. Pendlebury on the other hand has played...

    Opinion The Rebuild Thread

Donald McDonald left the football department this year I think because there might be a perceived conflict of interest; and even if you can't past the shifty reason why Scully ended up at GWS, there isn't really a conflict now because he is a recruiter and scully has already been recruited. List...

Long Sleeve Jumper - Like or dislike

There were several long sleeves playing for Carlton the other night. Unfortunately their namby pamby performance has done nothing to bust the modern stereotype that players who wear the long sleeves are soft. Somebody give the long sleeves to a real man like Shintaro before they become...

The Dawes trade - still a sore point?

It's a matter of taking the good with the bad. There's been a lot of talk the last fortnight or so about us having on of the best young lists and the competition and being there are there abouts for the next few years. This talk would not have occurred if Buckley and the club hadn't embarked on...

    Player review vs Carlton

The concern I've got about White being second ruck is if it completely screws up his game as a really hard running mobile tall forward. There's no doubt that a similar role really messed with Dawes who also relied on having a big engine. If it did screw up White then its kind of a double whammy...

    Moved Thread Dale Thomas

The lack of preseason excuse is wearing very thin imo. Firstly because he now played several preseason games as well as the first 3rd of the season and hasn't showed any signs of improvement (in fact it could be argued that he's gotten worse). Second, even if his endurance is down he should at...

    Player review vs Carlton

I doubt they will drop White for Reid. White is really really important in situations where we are rebounding out of a flooded back 50. A straight swap of Reid for White will rob as of a key forward who is as fantastic at running into space on the rebound. I doubt there is any defender in the...
