Player Watch #9: Luke Davies-Uniacke [Part II] - [Herald Sun] LDU has parked contract talks with the club & is expected to command offers of more than $1m a season

The great man in action. As usual, wrecked by the umpires. That decision against Michael Nettlefold. Superboot nearly did it on his own. One of the great quarters of football.

Player Watch #9: Luke Davies-Uniacke [Part II] - [Herald Sun] LDU has parked contract talks with the club & is expected to command offers of more than $1m a season

No that's not true. It was the constant speculation about the future of the club and whether or not they would be paid. They certainly had to wait to get paid, however were pretty patient as I recall. As far as I am aware, they all eventually got paid, unlike St. Kilda in the 1980's, where...

Player Watch #9: Luke Davies-Uniacke [Part II] - [Herald Sun] LDU has parked contract talks with the club & is expected to command offers of more than $1m a season

Well clearly you were not around in 1964, when Fitzroy failed to win a solitary game. I was and it was just "absolutely splendid". But we made it to 1996 and methinks you musn't have been here then either, because that was a terrible side to witness playing. To make it worse playing out at...

Player Watch #9: Luke Davies-Uniacke [Part II] - [Herald Sun] LDU has parked contract talks with the club & is expected to command offers of more than $1m a season

I don't think we should compare our situation today with "our" situation at Fitzroy in the early 1990's when so many players left. The circumstances were significantly different, with a lack of money, the constant speculation about extinction, merger, relocation and the over-riding one, being...

Player Watch #9: Luke Davies-Uniacke [Part II] - [Herald Sun] LDU has parked contract talks with the club & is expected to command offers of more than $1m a season

Excellent post. Yes, it is up to the blokes who have the talent to lead the way, and what better reward would it be for LDU if he actually led the way, because then he could say, "I did it, I led these emerging young players on a journey with great reward". He and others like him, if they are...

Player Watch #37: Cooper Harvey - syndesmosis injury vs Nthrn Bullants in VFL - will miss six weeks

I wish I wasn't bumping this post, but unfortunately, as we seem to do most years, we get excited by the Intraclub games, only to find everything starts to come crashing down, when the real stuff starts. Unfortunately Intraclub games are never a great guide as to what will transpire in the...

Coach Alastair Clarkson - NMFC Senior Coach - Coaching & Football Discussion

Goodness me, that's an extraordinary statement, six games into what is, after last years shenanigans, really just his first proper year in the job. It is possible that we will not win a game this year, but let's just stick with him until the end of this year and see what small steps have been...

    Player Watch #28: Bigoa Nyuon

Very easy to bag the bloke when you are looking at it in 2D. In 3D the distance may be such that he had no hope of getting their to contest in a marking situation, so better to get there to be able to maybe stand on the mark or pressure the Hawthorn player if he elected to play on, which he...

Preview Changes v Hawthorn - Marvel Stadium, Sun 21 April 4:00pm

Irrespective of what happens tomorrow, I don't expect us to beat West Coast. They are being judged on their 2022 and 2023 form, both seasons where they had a huge injury list and/or were stricken down by covid 19. Today in their win against Freo, their team featured 8 Premiership players from...

Yes, just about smashed the TV last week when they persisted in calling him Comden. S*** for brains commentators who don't prior to the game, make sure they know everyone's name and can pronounce it properly. Kellie Underwood was the worst of the lot.

    Toast Meeting a living legend!

That's a great read danj . Spotted in that list a very handy Fitzroy player, Eddie Goodger, who is also still with us. That year my old team, Fitzroy played North in the First Semi Final, which North won, before being beaten by Collingwood in the Preliminary Final. The Pies went on to beat...

    Strategy The actual positive thread

That's what I call perspective. And who better to come from than Nick. I appreciate that yesterday was no fun whatsoever to watch, but realistically did anyone really think we would beat Geelong at Kardinia Park? Yes the margin was far worse than we would have hoped to see, but we were...

    Player Watch #36: Tyler Sellers

Wow, you are a ruthless b******. One game and that's it as far as you are concerned. If our club treated every debutant with that sort of approach, we would be having about 26 picks in the draft every year. As you have noted, Larkey was much younger, but I suspect he'd have been out the door...

Game Day Rd 5: Pussies v North at the expanded Baked Potato State Government Handout Stadium.

He is hardly the worst. 13 possessions to half time, behind only Sheezel and Scott with 20 and 14 respectively. If he was out he would have just had a handful of touches.

Preview Changes v Geelong, Sun 14 April 1:00pm at VicGovFundedKardinia Park [Zurhaar (calf)/Shiels (GS)/KDaws (ankle)/Stevo OUT; Sellers/Big/Laz/Drury IN]

While we are likely to get an absolute mauling, Geelong's form line at 4 wins and no losses, versus us with no wins and 4 losses, does not paint the full picture. The four teams that Geelong have played have won a combined 4 games in those 4 rounds of which only one of those clubs, being the...

That's a rather quick and harsh judgement. Surely, the club will give him more time than that to see if he can develop and forge an AFL career. He'll never be a star but written off after just 3 games is a bit unfair.

I think this is a good point. While I think Shiels experience is great to have, being the sub limits the value of that experience. Instead, we need to give younger blokes a go and in his second year at the club, now is the time to find out if Drury has got what it takes.

Its incredible how teams leave him all alone game after game. Why don't teams put a hard tag on him, just as happens, or has happened in the past with some of the gun midfielders. As other's here have suggested, this should be Greenwoods role. He should not leave his side all game long...

This has all the hallmarks of a terrible thrashing. From a statistical point of view, the average age of Geelong is is 26.9, second behind Collingwood at 27.9. We are 18th at 24.1. Average age across the competition is 25.8. Games played, Geelong sits at an average of 123.8, third behind...

It astounds (and angers) me that after his disgraceful comments in March 2022 got him sacked from Foxfooty, he is back so quickly as one of the main football media commentators. Should have been banned from the industry.

Oppo Camp The Kerridge Award 2024 - back in action!

I'll nominate Brad Close. He'll kick a bag while running around all game long with that blank look on his face, as usual Pity their (just about latest recruit) Joe Furphy is not in the mix yet. 24 years old, 202 cm, one game for the Northern Knights in 2018, before pursuing a basketball...

    Strategy The actual positive thread

The first indication as to where we are at, will come in Round 6 when we play Hawthorn. Our fixture so far has been a shocker with games against GWS, Carlton and Brisbane, all Preliminary Finalists last year, plus Fremantle. Realistically the only team out of those 4 that we should have had...

Bad move. Hopefully you have some good loan arrangements in place to fund the cost of admission, because now that the Joel Selwood Stand is open, down there at good old Catland, they'll be charging an absolute fortune to let you in. I used to go to there once upon a time, until Cooky got...

    Player Watch #30: Charlie Comben

There was not much to hang our hats on today (mind you, we don't have many hats at the present) I thought his second half performance in particular, was very promising. All we need him to do, is just keep on putting in the hard yards he did today and remain uninjured, If we get nothing else...
