I thought Knox were pretty good yesterday. They'll be around the place. By the end of R5 we'll have played Donvale, Knox and Coldstream away, so we'll have a pretty good idea of where we stand
What do we take out of this round?
Surprised to see Upper lose like that after the excitement of last week. Who's seen Coldstream?
Division seems unpredictably competitive at the moment. Looks like Silvan kicked themselves out of a win.
I'm not going to try to defend any clubs on that front (you all have more idea than me of what actually happens in the EFNL's juniors) - my experience is that players are pretty good at recruiting players, and while you want your best kids to get the opportunity to play Vic Metro and NAB League...
I agree that we've probably done this to death. I just can't help but laugh every time you group Surrey Park in with the "super clubs". Have you been to Surrey Park?
See, my view is that the highlighted bit is why so many clubs struggle for Juniors and 19s. If you think that Junior and 19s premierships don't really matter I think you're missing the point when it comes to community football
Strategic you say? If you turn over 30% of your playing list in any given year, and you have two 19s team that are two years apart in age profile then... what? Cut one adrift you think?
I'd love to see every club field an U19s team. I'd love for them all to have strong junior clubs feeding them. Of course it would be better for the competition. But as I said earlier - it's easy to hold a view if you don't appreciate the connectivity that keeps players at a club. Maybe the kid...
I quite like this equalization idea. I expect that as we pool our players for the betterment of the competition we'll also pool our revenues and start receiving pokies income, a share of the taking from clubs that host finals, etc
They don't all graduate from 19s to Seniors at the same time - and given that U19s is now a 16-a-side competition the number for two teams is closer to 40...
I'm saying it serves as a bridge between juniors and seniors and I think that's a good thing for a lot of players. Some make the transition easily - they're already driving themselves to games in their final year of juniors. Some still need mum & dad to complete their registration and take them...
I'm not sure how old you are, but in the life of a football club 17 and 18 year olds are kids, and they're in a transition window from junior to senior footy. Most of them aren't ready for senior footy. They're still in school, starting uni or apprenticeships... community clubs offer some...
In principle, yes. But this assumes that it's easy to tell 20+ kids who've spent their junior career playing in your jumper that for the good of the competition they should now go and play in a different one. Lots of kids will simply stop playing, rather than leave a club where their mates are...
You can only field a 2nd 19s team if there's a club that isn't, and you do take their spot / play their fixture. Same as if you want your 19s to play in a higher division - there has to be a spot available in that division
That's how it works - if you want to play your 19s in a different division you can only do so if you can fill a vacancy (ie a club that doesn't have a 19s)
Not sure how much Div4 most posters would have seen. Nuna and CNOB have both struggled in recent years, and I'm guessing outs > ins for Forest Hill. Whitehorse are coming down and sounds like they've lost a few too. Seems like there's going to be a gap between top 3 and next 4, but hard to rank 4-7
