Resource List thread - Inaccuracy in official records

Thanks for that, 35Daicos . I dug out the earliest copy I have (from back when they still had representative/interstate stats in the AFL guide)... turns out Richards and Jenkins were part of the Grand Final/Exhibition medallists list then as well. Richards in 1946 should remain there but...

Resource List thread - Inaccuracy in official records

I've just unearthed an error in the official list of Simpson Medal winners for WA state games. 1947 - Frank Jenkins (South Fremantle) is shown in WAFL published records and online as B.O.G. in a South Fremantle vs Essendon match. The AFL season guide and Wikipedia have the same info...

    Discussion Unique/one-off/exhibition games

This State practice match was a pretty cool one-off event and the first trial of the "Allies" concept for State of Origin. It was played during the VFL finals as a warm-up for the end-of-season State of Origin Carnival, and Victoria had a makeshift leadership set-up: *Tom Hafey (Victoria's...

    interstate championship 1979

Plans changed quite a bit by the looks of that. One thing that stands out to me is no mention of the Australian Amateurs. Highly unusual as they'd been involved in every Section Two championships since 1950. It's just a theory but maybe they were initially overlooked for 1979 because of the...

    interstate championship 1979

The 1979 Section Two championships consisted of 5 matches, held in July/Aug/Oct. The team rankings were based on final placings in the previous national championships held in 1974/75. PRELIMINARY ROUND: Queensland (1974 Section 2 national champions) bypassed the preliminary round. SF1 - July...

Most goals kicked to reach 100

The most I'm aware of in the VFA is Johnny Walker (Williamstown, 1952). He needed 13 and kicked 16 to finish on 103. Then Laurie Nash (Camberwell, 1939) who needed 11, kicked 11, finished on 100. Jack Douglas (Brighton, 1947) needed 7, kicked 8, finished on 101. ------------------- A few...

stemline (ping 35Daicos and Gibbsy) Apologies for not replying sooner, I've rarely been online over the past couple of months. Many thanks for your continued detective work on this, it's much appreciated! Following your efforts I've done some further digging as well. Although Crazy John's...

Winners of the David Parkin Medal.

Reviving an old thread I know but it started in 1998 as the David Parkin Cup, awarded to the winning team. In 2003 it was changed to the David Parkin Medal, awarded to the Best On Ground in the first premiership match each season between Hawthorn and Carlton. A full list of winners can be found...

That article was an absolute load of click bait. Yahoo Sports as the source tells you everything you need to know! Rodgers has already extinguished any smoke before it could turn into a fire (I love his tweet featured at the bottom of this article)...

Breaking news: Jordy out and Jimmy Graham headed to Lambeau. Had a gut feeling we might snag Graham but didn't see the Jordy cut coming, was sure he'd be restructured or take a pay cut!

Query 1977 Exhibition Game in Darwin - Hawthorn v Geelong

Match report of the Hawthorn-Richmond game in The Age (Oct.3) confirms that Hudson - along with a number of senior players - would not be making the trip to Darwin. From memory, Hudson was a FIFO (Fly-In, Fly-Out) player for the Hawks throughout 1977, managing his pub in Hobart during the week...

    Article 1977 GF Replay curtain-raiser - Hawthorn v Richmond

This game remains largely forgotten/unknown. The drawn VFL-AFL Grand Final left the league scrambling to organise entertainment for the replay on October 1st. With the Reserves and Under 19s having already played their Grand Finals the previous week, a curtain-raiser was organised between...

Query 1977 Exhibition Game in Darwin - Hawthorn v Geelong

Hawks definitely went in with an advantage... they had played the preliminary final three weeks earlier and played Richmond the week before in a hastily arranged curtain-raiser for the GF Replay. In contrast, the Cats had missed the finals. This was their first match in six weeks.

A quick follow-up, just realised that Mero and I both have an earlier draft of the 1995 design on our respective sites (it has the VFA shield instead of the VFL one), that'll need to be updated!

    Resource www.footyjumpers.com

This is an interesting one. - the embroidered "VFA" was only used on the senior rep jumper until 1990 and was then replaced by the VFA shield. - VicSafe came on board as VFA sponsors in 1995 I suspect it's actually a VFA Reserves or Under 19s rep jumper from 1995. Here's the images I used...
