If we were able to split pick 7 for 2 mid to late 1st round picks, would anyone else use a first rounder to pick him up before we took him?
I suspect not. This is our BATNA
I don't watch too many Richmond games but when I do (other than when I am taking little notice due to my blue and white bias) I have found him to be a skillful, damaging and classy player. I would love to have him at the Blues.
I've never seen anyone hate a club so much as you JD (including players).
Your passionate hatred of the Carlton football club is fascinating and somewhat disturbing.
Although I disagree with the overpaid part of your post (not that I know what either of them are really being paid but given the impact that Juddy has had on Carlton I find it difficult to believe he is being overpaid), I agree with the sentiment. I found myself cringing at how Fev was...
I am a big fan of Burns, tough as nails.
Simmo is something special. He is skinny as but doesn't take a backwards step, backs himself and is an important yet underrated part of Carlton.
Re: Was Buckley's 'greatness' at the Pies over-inflated because they couldn't produce anyone even cl
Buckley was pure gold. For most of his career he has been rated by many experts as one of the top 3 in the AFL and rightly so. As a Carlton supporter I couldn't help but admire how bloody good...
I think it may have been Rexy to say this or it may have been a tv commentator. Either way, many years ago, Harry Madden tackled an opposition player and the commentator said something like "Harry wraps his big testicles around....Tenticles, I meant to say tenticles".
I had a bit of a laugh!
Thank-you for waking me up.
If the rumours are true that Brisbane presented their offer to Carlton, your argument then seems a little too simplistic. I (like most Carlton supporters) have been critical of Pagan (and of the whole club) but if Carlton were to hear Brissy out about Thornton, surely...
I think you underestimate what you are potentially getting. He has been playing in the worst team in the league over the last couple of years. Sure he gets beaten here and there, but with Carlton's lack of midfield pressure, I think most (if not all) defenders would get destroyed occassionally...
Nick wanted Collingwood, he didn't get it. He missed out on a premiership with Port. He missed out on playing finals footy with the Pies. Instead he is "winning" wooden spoons with us.
I think it may have hurt Nick a bit.
Why wouldn't they be genuinely interested in Thornton?
Thornton has held his own and beaten some of the best forwards the AFL has at the moment. Furthermore he has done this at Carlton who's midfield pressure has not been great this year (or the last five years). It would be stupid for other...
If the avg wage of a player is now 200k, how much do you think Thornton is worth? In my opinion, as far as tall young defenders with potential go, Thornton is right up there. Which 22 year old (or below) defenders are as good as/show as much promise as Thornton?
