This is what I tried to explain a couple of days ago (albeit very poorly) Just doesn’t come across as a natural ball hunter. There is no doubting his high skill level and terrific attitude. I just don’t see him as an in and under midfielder
That is bat$hit crazy. You have been reading too many David King articles. North got pick 3 for McKay and now their backline is absolutely shite yet you want to trade out our best key forward for a pick in the 20’s ????
Lol are you serious ? Ive gotten plenty wrong over the years. I was very bullish on Butler early days but looks like I got that one wrong as well. Unlike some others on this forum, I have no issues admitting when I got things wrong.
Correct - just my gut feel. I just don’t see it. I’ll be the first to put up my hand if I get it wrong and I sincerely hope I am, great kid with a great attitude. Time will tell
We will see. Just calling it as I see it. He’s not an in and under midfielder. Just like Reeves offers nothing around the ground as a ruckman. Meek has already proven to be a far more effective ruckman in just a few games
He’s not up to it. If he was, they would have put him in the middle at half time after Nash and Newcombe were getting a bath. They went with HH who actually did a stellar job - big tick
Ward will never be an in a A grade in and under midfielder. To be honest I’m not sure what he is. For mine...
Wouldn’t surprise me at all to see TT and B Smith end up at Geelong. Worse still TT will cost nothing whilst Smith will likely cost them a paltry pick in the low to mid teens - it’s what Geelong do. They planets just always seem to align for them when it comes to bringing in gun players or...
Agree - Dont care how GC or the media try and spin it, as soon as Hardwick got the GC gig his first port of call was get Chol out of the side. Our staff were genuinely shocked by how unfit he came to us. Forget about the PCL injury, you can still work hard in the gym which he clearly didn’t do...
Important absolutely - Big issue though is that all of Lewis, CJ and Wingard are consistently injured. I would hate to see how many games of footy all three have missed on the last 3 years. Day is a star but has also copped a significant amount of injuries that have stifled his development
Hard to disagree with this. I was initially bullish on Ward, McDonald and Butler but all three are struggling. Butler can’t play football. Finger twirler has been found out Ward was a pissweek so called “safe option” top ten pick. Not my words the clubs. Nowhere near it. DGB another top ten...
That is not the issue with Reeves. His biggest issue is that he is basically ineffectual around the ground. Meek has much better agility and his follow up work is really impressive. The other key issue is that the ruck rule change this year has nullified his greatest asset ? Winning tap outs)
They will win this. Just want to see consistent four quarters and further development of our younger brigades. C mac needs to step up and hopefully meek continues his good form in the middle
Harry isn’t quite ready just yet. Let him find his feet and confidence at Box Hill. Finn showed a bit I thought yesterday- keep him in and let him give a hard tag to Anderson
Was really pleased to see Ward show seem elite disposal tonight - especially when going forward
I thought Chol battled out the game but was totally outclassed by Frampton. Still a massive upgrade on Kozi. Good to see NewCombe back and Dylan Moore seemingly over his glandular fever
Hardwick...
Agree but signs not looking good for Ward becoming an a grader. Very frustrating but if you look closely at his draft year it’s not looking very strong. Callaghan was the one we really wanted/ needed but unfortunately meaningless wins at the tail end of the season stuffed that idea
Same deal...
This is a really good point and definitely one I havent factored in when assessing gReeves’s form so far this year. For the record I have been a massive Reeves fan from day 1. Just disappointed of his ineffectiveness around the ground - especially at ground level. I love the big strong mobile...
Agree - felt that he played a pretty selfish game and got his pants pulled down by Fritsch. Frost on the other hand stood up and put his body on line contest after contest. One if the very few senior players who stood up when we needed it
Disagree - yes he was good at the centre clearances but Gawn ran rings around him when running forward or when he pushed back. He struggles to take contested marks each week despite towering over 90% of the players on the field. Is completely ineffective once the ball hits the ground
Send him...
Seriously enough of Reeves as starting ruckman, it’s becoming embarrassing. Meek must come in for him next week. McKenzie the only shining light in the midfield. Nash and Newcombe were poor, Worpel tried hard as usual but was generally ineffective
Ward was poor - have to agree with others...
Disagree - clearly overawed on the big stage and struggled to impact. Should go back to Box Hill and get used to playing on bigger mature bodies at the lower level. Feel like Watson has been hyped up far too much both internally and externally. Needs to earn his stripes at Box Hill and should be...
For me Daniel Curtain. Connor O’Sullivan if Curtain wasn’t available. Sorry but he’s just too small. Once he gets his confidence up and starts kicking a few they will physically target him even more which is a concern. Anyway still too early to make a call. As I said post draft hope ive got it...
I’m with you. Pretty no much no chance of landing English but if we were half a chance, you would go all out and not give it a second thought. Reeves adds nothing up forward, down back or when the ball hits the ground.
Another season of watching Reeves dominate the hitouts yet do SFA around the ground
Was against taking Watson at pick 4 and saw nothing today that alleviated my concern. It’s only his first game but doesn’t deserve to play next week. Let him get some confidence up at Box Hill first. Otherwise...
