    Picola & District Discussion 2026

The movement following the affiliation decisions in 2018 had a big impact on Shepp Easts junior program. After the single year in the Murray League and a move to the KDL with no 4ths eventually left Shepp East without any juniors at all. They are building up again and will no doubt get back to...

Initially the max proposed was 6, but it changed over time. We had the opportunity to add Jackson Trengrove a few years back, but he would have come as a 7 and therefore was not able to fit.

Training once a week could be the way to go for community clubs. Get one quality session in with everyone making the effort to get there. Most Senior players should now be in the gym or doing CrossFit training to improve their general capacity. The old days most footballers would only ever do...

I would imagine that the league is finalising the U15 and U18 fixture. With some teams not fielding sides it does take some work to align as best as possible with the regular fixture. I heard that the clubs with U15s are Undera, MTFNC, VT, SE, Tally, Nag, Avenel, Stanhope. (8 teams) In the...

What an exciting time of the year! All set ready for Round 1. Club secretaries will no doubt still be trying to get players registered so that team sheets can be uploaded. The massive coordination of volunteers will be on trying to find people to fill all those roles. Gate, canteen, bar...

This is where Nagambie rises above. They have many players that have grown up and developed within the town. Lots of other KDL clubs rely too heavily on recruiting players from outside of their radius to compete. Hopefully with the junior system that was implemented a few years back, we get...

A few years back I went to a few Geelong District games and entry was included for both HOME and AWAY members. Very few actually needed to pay their way into the ground. Not sure if this is still how they operate, but it was interesting.

    Central Murray FL Discussion 2026

The concept being pushed is a “wagon wheel” model, with major centres like Swan Hill, Shepparton and Bendigo anchoring smaller, more local competitions around them. Interesting concept, I had a look at this tool https://mapdevelopers.com/draw-circle-tool.php where you can draw a radius around...

Spot on Aaron. I sympathise with their case and they deserve to be in a suitable competition. Broadford’s population being larger than Euroa and Rochester and the extra travel was not appealing for many of the KDL clubs from very small towns and would impact the recruiting options for our...

Yep, for sure. I am not as aware of player numbers of the clubs closer to Echuca. Having an alignment in the KDL wouldn’t have the U17/U18 issues that the PDL would have. My point was that major league clubs with excess players could have their cake and eat it too, if they had a good alignment.

This is where I’d love to see the GV club align with a neighbouring minor league club to fill their void in their fixture. For example a club like Girgarre or Merrigum who haven’t had U18s could welcome the excess Echuca players. So Echuca choose their starting 22 each week and the balance of...

The Lions must be keeping their cards close to their chest. But if any club can avoid ever bottoming out it would be Stanhope.

History will show that MTFNC made the finals from 2019-2025, which the club’s longest streak since joining the KDL, and won back to back premierships for the first time in our long history. The club won 2 flags in its first three years in the KDL (1964 & 1966) after dropping down from the GVL...

This should be encouraged, we don’t want to lose 18-19 year olds to the game. A couple of years in the community leagues will do them no harm.

Good to see the HDFNL bringing in Under 15s. It lines the league up with the KDL and creates a proper pathway. Some people are worried clubs like Colbo and Elmore won’t be able to field teams, but the reality is this. If a senior club can’t produce or attract juniors each Saturday, its future...
