That's why it surprises me that there's no discussion or even outrage about a clear reduction of GA options. Say if they shifted the fences further around from the wings in '21, then took half of L1 Ponsford in '22, and so on bit by bit you can understand it would sneak under people's radars...
I've been to two Sunday afternoon MCG games in the last two weeks (Melb v Geelong on 11/4 and Melb v Hawthorn on 18/4) and have noticed a concerning trend. It seems as if the quantity of general admission seating has been greatly reduced, after having been established and stable ever since the...
And maybe this is part of the problem in footy clubs.
Tall poppy bullsh*t that attempts to bring anyone down a notch who doesn't "speak the language"
Fine with me if you reject progressive thinking over out of touch boomer rants that just breed contempt.
Leon Cameron's speech was pathetic. If I was a member (who had shelled out $681 for a 2021 membership) I would be asking for my money back.
It reeked of a man who has no concept of neuroscience or motivational psychology, and one who lacks ability to build engagement and connection. You can't...
Hore can keep his head held high. Especially with Hibberd down he was critical.
It almost seems as if we hit rock bottom and the win was the group realising they just stood up. A long way up from here but I'm glad the players were willing to get their hands dirty.
But who comes in for Hibberd??
McDonald has been so bad the commentators are suggesting he run as a decoy. Any other "elite" forwards get reduced to that?
And Keilty is less effective than Spencer.
Does anyone remember Bate's first season where he played an absolute shocker in a pre-season game?
He dropped about 5 simple marks in a half and everyone was groaning "who the f--- is this redhead?" and gave bronx cheers when he held on to one. Soon enough he came good.
He seems to suffer...
Olarenshaw briefly interviewed Bailey in the Melbourne rooms at half time...
He said we need to kick it more when we have the opportunity as we were over-using handball.
Think Bailey pulled a trick out of his arse!
Absolutely ecstatic!! That was the hard-running and attacking Demons of old!
Brock really showed his class and composure in the last half
Miller finally showed on-field leadership, skill and reliability
Bate is a future champion - was rusty in the first half (as he was entitled to be first game...
Chad, which sucks for me as I also have him in my team!
But, in Round 8 last year Goodes turned around his early season form slump by tagging Cornes, hence the reason Roos wants to give it another go.
He picked up a lot of the ball in the that game, and he's not exactly a defensive negating...
I read in the Age today that Roos wasn't very happy with Goodes, and is planning to give him a tagging job on Cornes next week.
"...it's very hard to win a game of footy if one of your best players is getting 7 (possessions). He just looked like he wasn't working very hard and that's something...
Hopefully Geary plays a shocker and Lyon replaces him with Armitage for Round 2.
Also was trying to trade Gilmore for Cox as have more than $100000 remaining, but thankfully he's played a blinder of a first half against Collingwood. When Wood's price matures (hopefully round 6?) might trade him...
hmm it's going to be tough this week - many things to ponder:
Backs:
- Clement hit back with a big week, and H Shaw has been average for weeks now. Will the trend continue?
- Milburn, Scarlett or Mackie in defence?
- Was Jess Smith's big game a one-off?
- C Cornes as captain? Had an average one...
Who else reads the weekly column by Cameron Noakes on the back page of Friday sport in The Age?
The guy is a legend - you would have thought there are only so many jokes to be made about 80s Caro, Chris Connolly in a KISS costume, and an angry wife, but somehow he writes a masterpiece every...
3 - Green
2 - Bell
1 - Bate
1 - Wheatley
1 - Bruce
Big PJ was also fantastic - not dominant by any means but it's gladdening to see White now has a very capable backup.
not being a crows supporter it's hard for me to comment, but I remember Jericho lighting it up the 2006 preseason and having big wraps, but he never ended up getting a game.
It seems he's been a valuable contributor recently.
Haven't seen all his senior games, but in my opinion there are many...
3 - Davey
2 - Johnstone
2 - Sylvia
1 - Bate
Apologies to Bruce, Yze, White, Paul Johnson (not silky smooth but showed great endeavour) and even Ben Holland, who didn't really screw anything up.
Browny was awesome in the first half but faded a little
I remember that game :(
Also I think that Ablett game where he would have scored 202 was against Melbourne also!
Gary Ablett junior racked up the points against Richmond...anyone think he's going to pull a huge one out of the bag this year?
So much inconsistency, teams under and over performing, and a mixture of clogged floodfests and free flowing possession footy.
I know its only round three, but at the start of last season things were so much more predictable and clear cut.
Not complaining though...this randomness makes DT...
I can definitely see O'Hailpin being a future star.
I can't think off the top of my head he will compare to in 4 or 5 years time, but have we ever seen a FB that has shown the complete package of confidence, strength, toughness, pace, mental drive and athleticism?
It's great to watch him...
This game is what footy is all about.
There's too much whining and complaining about the AFL turning soft...but this game was anything but.
Hard, attacking, free-flowing footy, dominating forwards, one-on-ones, individual brilliance, momentum swings....sh*t I think I'm going to have to change my...
Who said that the big forwards are dead to the modern game?
Fevola caned in the second half, Lucas was indestructible in the first, and Lloyd was a strong consistent target throughout the match. Awesome stuff
This is why I disagree with the common strategy of having a 22 of senior guns with ONLY rookies on the bench.
Good players will inevitably get short term injuries and suspensions and you'll end end up wasting trades to patch holes instead of using them tactically.
