I'm a big, big Jackson fan, so much so he's my favourite player. But even I can't agree he's an excellent overhead mark. Average to above average IMO, far from excellent. I don't think the extra few cm's make a huge difference to be honest.
I think Stringer is more valuable to us as a forward now with brief stints in the midfield. We already have a lot of depth through the midfield now, hope he grows a few more cm's as Doggies7 said. I expect him to play a Mitch Hahn type role who can do it much better.
Menzel is a pretty similar player to Steve Johnson and is extremely effective in a contested ball focussed side. He's also quite capable of winning his own ball, I'm not quite sure what your getting at here.
I guess this is where we differ with the Stringer prediction. What I question is will...
Good post Dannnnnnn.
This is the part where I'm still very much unsure on though. From what I've been told, even before he broke his leg his running capacity wasn't great which makes me question whether he can play as a regular in the midfield at the next level. If he's going to play his...
I understand that. My concern is Stringer may not make it, Menzel I'm sure about. I know Menzel will probably need another reco, but I think we could still get 10 good years out of him. I just don't know with Stringer. I don't think he was ever a great athlete at U16's and this broken leg has...
What don't you get? Menzel has shown a lot more then Stringer of late and we know athletically he's fine. Menzel has had a good report on his knee too. At least I know Menzel will make the grade, Stringer I'm not sure on.
Plenty of kids have dominated at U16 level, but couldn't make it AFL level.
It's not the football aspects (kicking, clean hands etc) recruiters are worried about, it's the athletic attributes regarding Stringer. From what I've been told recruiters don't take much note of the kicking, goal kicking, clean hands test at all anyway. The concern is does he have the aerobic...
They are keen on both. They could trade picks 4 & 13 for both, but this seems unlikely doesn't it?
I don't know anything for sure, just looking at the possibilities why we would look at trading with Richmond to get Martin. I don't think offering up picks 5 & 6 for Martin and pick 9 is a bad...
No link, just going off what one on their recruiters mentioned. I don't know if they will offer up pick 4, I just know they are keen. Not sure how keen.
To me Whitfield looks a class above the rest, after that I think there's a group that's fairly even talent wise. I don't agree O'Rourke will go at No 2, but I agree with those players in the top 10 and it's exactly what I'd have but positioned differently. To me those 9 players are very even, so...
Stringer has lost his explosiveness, it's pretty concerning. I'd understand if clubs don't want to take the risk in the first round given what he's shown.
We would also receive something good from GWS since he was traded (like Brennan when traded to GC), perhaps a mini draft pick or a good young player. It actually wouldn't be a bad deal, well depending on whether the AFL shaft us.
Unless the club truly believes he can only last one more year...
I personally can't see this being a reality.
If we want a mini draft pick, I think we will have to use one of our 1st round picks (maybe along with someone else). I'd do it because I think Martin would be the No 1 pick if he was in this draft so of course I would.
Adelaide basically gave up pick 10 for Crouch, but I wouldn't put him in the same class as Martin/Hogan/O'Meara IMO.
Regarding Minson, he's a free agent so the reality is we will probably only get a compo pick from the AFL. I guess it depends what the AFL give us.
I realise that and agree.
The question I'm asking is, how are we supposed to get Hogan and Martin whilst keeping our two top 10 draft picks? In other words who would you trade?
He was more a midfielder as a 16 year old, his clearance work was pretty phenomenol. Very Strong. Doesn't look as explosive now which is a worry. It has really hurt his game. I'm a bit on the fence with him, I saw him kick 10 goals in the TAC and then saw him have a very poor championships.
As I said before, I think Martin has the potential to be the best in the competition. I'm certain he's a better talent then Hogan.
I'm baffled knightmare has Martin at 4, he was voted 2nd best the the championships by experts (I think by only 1 point) and the best for WA. He also played one less...
So just to clarify we get the Number 1 pick for next year with pick 6 and get pick 21 from them?
So firstly Adelaide's Compo pick comes straight after Adelaide's pick. So it may not be pick 21.
Secondly, I'm 99% sure Martin will go at pick 1
Thirdly, there's no way in hell that will happen.
Normally I would agree with you as my number 1 priority is mids also, but I'd be happy to take a unique attacking defender that I rate as a top 5 pick if need be. I'd prefer to take Martin, Mayes and Toumpas over him. If they are gone, Plowman I feel would be just too good to pass up and we...
If he is 191cm, he competes well on the big guys. It's not ideal, but he's still able. He's probably better suited to a Dustin Fletcher role anyway, where he can intercept marks and set up play from defence.
Jack Martin is my number 1 choice this year, he has the potential to be the best in the competition. Supporters won't mind the wait.
Toumpas, Mayes and Plowman are nice players for our 1st round pick.
I like Rory Atkins at our 2nd pick. He's played some big games at TAC cup level, has...
Your right, next year's draft will be good.
I'd be a little disappointed if we got rid of DJ this year, I think he adds a bit of speed and spark to a very slow and sparkless side (if thats a word).
