Fair warning, I've got a bit of a doomsday post coming up. Not expecting a hell of a lot of support given club forums are optimistic places when it comes to talking about the future but oh well.
Thought I'd look at where we might be at in a couple of years because I think that's where we might...
Hansen Thompson McDonald
Mullett Grima Atley
Dal Santo Cunnington Wells
Harvey Tarrant Adams
Thomas Petrie Black
Goldstein Swallow Ziebell
Greenwood Gibson Bastinac MacMillan/Nahas
I'm pretty comfortable with most of these guys.
Greenwood and Gibson in their current form are at the required...
That's pretty significant praise. Interesting given a large contingent on BF feel like we carry Drew defensively.
FWIW I'd have Josh Kennedy #1 but when you think about it there aren't too many other good ones.
These don't come along too often (last one was '06, the Hansen one).
Couldn't have come at a better time for us. Petrie (31) must be a good chance to call it quits at the end of his current contract (ending in 2015). Grima (28) is a year by year proposition. Sadly, one serious injury could be...
Rejoice.
I feel like I'm the only one who is really happy with this win. We know this team can win contested ball and use it as well as anyone. That will come back. Today they completely shut a team out and that's not something they've done under Scott too often.
If you were going to criticise our list management over the last 4 years, this is the area you'd choose. Seems in the Scott era we've wanted at least one of these recycled players every year.
2010: McKinley
2011: Sierakowski
2012: Gysberts, Hine
2013: Nahas
There's plenty of merit in taking...
History tells us at least one of them will do it.
I've left out the future hall of famer because everyone already has him in the 22.
Apologies to fans of Wallace, Brown, Warren, Curran, McGenniss, Wilkins and Turner.
For me, in order of likelyhood:
1. McKenzie
2. Delaney
3. Daw
4. Wood
5...
Surprising, isn't it?
We've gone from 14th in age and games played in 2013 to 4th in age and 3rd in games played among AFL senior lists.
Games Played
1. Sydney (-)
2. Fremantle (+9)
3. North (+11)
4. Hawthorn (-1)
5. Carlton (+2)
6. West Coast (-2)
7. Collingwood (-6)
8. Geelong (-2)

Thought I'd look at how our under 23 players compare to the rest of the comp. Top line are best 22, bottom line are top 20 picks yet to establish themselves, draft picks or soon to be draft picks. Bolded are my top 40 at a glance (excluding anyone from line B).
Talia, Smith, Brown, Laird...
One burst onto the scene and has stagnated. The other really struggled early and has finally had a breakout year.
Very different players. Hurley is physical and good by foot, while Hansen is elite overhead and has a big engine.
Who will be the better player?
Two of the more deadly players when given space and they're both playing very much outside roles at the moment (perhaps surprising given Martin's size). Who is currently the better player...
I think this bloke is just about the most underrated player in the game.
The guy is unquestionably the best kick going around. Now, he may only get it 17 times a game but once you add kick-ins, he's kicking the ball about 25 times a game. If he's under pressure, he hits the target. If he's in...
You want to know why? Because in all their wisdom, the board were so impressed with the elimination final that they extended his contract until 2016. A club that can't afford to sack a coach decided to give him the longest deal of any coach in the AFL. Somehow I doubt there were clubs lining up...
Popping my OFFICIAL thread cherry. Excited and nervous.
But yeah, we need a thread separate to the draft thread which is really an entirely different subject. Why we've mixed the two in the past I have no idea. We also need a thread for trade targets, not just FA's so here we go...
These are...
I hope this isn't seen as sinking the boots in after a big win because I've actually been thinking about this for the last few weeks. Anyway...
IN: Tom Lee, Tom Hickey, Trent Dennis-Lane and Selections 24, 25, 40, 43 and 47
OUT: Jamie Cripps and Selections 12, 13, 36, 45, 46 and 55.

I'm sitting here watching Paul Stewart wear a coloured vest yet again. I'd always thought he was pretty good.
For North the big one is Leigh Adams. Hasn't been the same since Judd ripped his shoulder out.
Who else?
OK, need some help from BF here. I've had a crack at picking the matchups for some defenders over the first 6 rounds but there are bound to be shitloads of mistakes.
I'll start off by saying I had to leave out Harry Taylor because it was impossible for me to track his matchups given how much...
North Frees
1) Push in the back from Renouf on Goldstein. Obvious.
2) Holding on Firrito. Hard to tell without replay/close up.
3) Monfries holding Swallow after disposal. Hard to tell without replay/close up.
4) Stevenson htb to Ziebell. Obvious.
5) Stevenson holding the ball to...
Changes
- We get Harvey back.
- They will likely get Griffen, Murphy and Gia back.
- Higgins, Wood and Dickson are their unavailable best 22 players.
Recovery
- They have one less day and a trip back from Perth.
Matchups
Goldstein vs Minson - These two lead the way in hitouts...
I struggle to see how they'll all be on the list next year. We've reached a point in time where each of the young guys (bar Curran) have become too good for VFL and need to be playing AFL footy. At least one of them will either leave for more opportunity or be traded to give opportunity to a...
Take a bow, Taylor Hine. Over the last couple of years we've let blokes like Daniel Rich destroy us. Just 15 touches and no goals for their most dangerous player is a huge win.
Great recruiting.
I'll try to update this every week.
Our guy vs Their guy (goals vs NM / average goals in 2012)
Thompson vs Cloke (4 / 2.3)
Grima vs Lynch (2 / 1.6)
Thompson vs Hawkins (3 / 2.8)
Grima vs Podsiadly (1 / 1.9)
Thompson vs Reid (0 / 1.4)
Grima vs Mumford (0 / 0.7) and Pyke (0 / 0.4)...
Get your early predictions in.
I went and had a look at the off-season odds to see how much things had changed. They were:
$7 - O'Meara - Going strong. Probably still favourite.
$12 - Whitfield - Inconsistent. Round 2 was good, the rest pretty average.
$13 - Crouch - Not sure. Only played 1...
If our man can continue his form from the last 2 weeks then he's a real chance. Worth keeping an eye on the contenders from week to week.
O'Meara - Only saw bits and pieces of the game tonight and he didn't do much.
Viney - Just the 17 touches. It's going to be tough work for him in that...
I firmly believe that these 4 players will dictate whether this playing group wins a flag. We need at least 2 of them to be genuine gun forwards. So who will be the best?
I think when their careers are done they'll be ranked 1. Daw 2. Tarrant 3. Hansen 4. Black.
Maj has ridiculous...
The contenders...
Jacobs - Dominant tap ruckman who has an enormous workload. Nothing special around the ground.
Leuenberger - Potential is there but 2013 will be tough without a proper preseason.
Kreuzer - If there are less stoppages then his stock goes up. Good around the ground but...
