Reasons for disenchantment / lower attendance

Which means all that was ever needed was for the umpires to enforce the existing rules a bit more strictly. Anyone with two eyes can see when a player is creeping sideways. Pay 50 metres for that and the problem solves itself. Instead, we get a brand new and brain dead rule that is worse than...

Injury Season 2026 - Geelong Injury Thread

If your different perspective varies from the "correct" one, held by the self-anointed custodians, then absolutely it is.

Injury Season 2026 - Geelong Injury Thread

For the first half of 1991 - until he returned - it was by far the biggest story of the year.

Oppo Camp Non Geelong football (AFL) discussion 2026 - Part 1

It's absolute garbage either way. He's not impeding the Collingwood player at all. The "protected area" rule might not be quite as stupid as the Stand rule (nothing is), but it's up there.

Reasons for disenchantment / lower attendance

Wrong. Wrong. And..........wrong. It's the worst rule ever invented (among tough competition too). Stupid by decision, stupid by execution.

Oppo Camp Non Geelong football (AFL) discussion 2026 - Part 1

The irony was for once he didn't duck and it was a free kick every day. The holding the ball they let go against Watson was far worse.

Most goals kicked in a quarter?

Thanks for the wonders of technology, you can now watch every one of those 8 goals too, here's the entire last quarter massacre:

    The downfall of Fox Footy.

Not as much as ramming down every other US sport - basketball and football in particular.

Is danger done? And if so what should be done about it?

He wasn't rested at all (from memory). He had an injury about a third of the way in, then after he came back he played every game. But both he and Selwood - brilliantly, and significantly - were played off the bench. Perfect management.

Is danger done? And if so what should be done about it?

I suspect you're in a tiny minority there! Don't think you'll have to wait long for that somehow.

Is danger done? And if so what should be done about it?

This is part of it though, no one seems to want to accept he was already 35 years old at the time. It's very very difficult to back up performances at that age. He had also had two quiet games against Brisbane already last season. It should not have come as that big a surprise.

Is danger done? And if so what should be done about it?

It was but it was also an outlier for him - it was his best game of the season by a long way. He had plenty of quiet games last year as well. Both home and away times against GWS and Brisbane saw very limited impact. It isn't quite as sudden a drop off as we think. Even as far back as 2022...

Is danger done? And if so what should be done about it?

This is the problem though. It's always the fringe players who get blamed, and never the anointed stars. Struggle to blame Knevitt too much based on one game when absolutely everyone (except maybe Bruhn) was garbage - Mannagh, Henry, Close, Neale, and Mullin all touched the ball less than...

As a midfielder somewhere in the mix with Hocking and Selwood.

Is danger done? And if so what should be done about it?

It's the reality of having a 36 year old in the team. They all do infinitely better in managing the load of older players, but the end comes for everyone at some time.

News Scott Pendlebury to wear Gold #10 when he breaks the games record

No he's not. And he's not equal with Neale. Neale absolutely craps on him from a great height. At multiple times, Neale has been as good as any player in the competition. Pendlebury has rarely been the best player even at his own club. It's amazing how easily longevity gets substituted for...

Universal Love Tyson Stengle Possibly AWOL

    Here's how many goals Stengle has kicked per year for Geelong: 2022: 53 2023: 27 2024: 46 2025: 34 An even 160 goals from 93 games - average of 1.72 goals per game. Pretty if not very handy for a small forward. Ronnie Burns for Geelong 1996: 31 1997: 50 1998: 35 1999: 34 2000: 39 2001: 33...

Is danger done? And if so what should be done about it?

If what we saw Saturday is going to become more regular I'm guessing the club will come up with calf, hamstring, or other leg "injuries" to allow them to include and exclude (read - "manage") as needed. There's absolutely no chance in hell he'll pull the pin himself, so if poor form continues...

Injury Season 2026 - Geelong Injury Thread

It's happened in the past. We've had players with long term injuries disappear for months on end - with no updates whatever. Would be very curious to go back and see if everyone was happy with it at the time.

Autopsy Flat Cats go down by 30 to Port

Still only early in the year, but that seems reasonable. The problem with unconditional worship in the footy media is that they forget to look at birth dates. Dangerfield has done zero wrong in preparation, and he's never been in anything but excellent condition. But he's 36 years old. While...

Great post. Edited to acknowledge these two in particular. I'm far from Smith's biggest fan, but couldn't agree more on this. He was our only midfielder to consistently run hard and present all night. He'll never be the best kick in the world, but at least he kept presenting. Dempsey is a...

Autopsy Flat Cats go down by 30 to Port

Bear in mind, if you take the kick in now you can wander out of the goalsquare and have that kick attributed to your possession count. They kicked 17 points and he took a fair few of their kick-ins. It can be misleading.

Yep, probably because they're the most desperate to be friends with them. Mark Howard the absolute worst at this in particular.
