Still need to build a list somehow - how many concessions do you think you'd need to be competitive with the wooden spooners? A completely useless team isn't good for anyone.
Wow! "not great" means "bad" now, does it?
Think about it... North in Sydney wasn't too good for Sydney.
North in Canberra wasn't too good for Canberra.
North in Gold Coast wasn't too good for Gold Coast.
I don't know how Tas thought this would be such a great idea!
North in Melbourne...
Sure, it's their right to not join in, and if it's a matter of weighing it up against their main aim, then maybe fair enough, even if I disagree.
Would have thought the sponsors thing would be sorted out if that were the only issue. Bit tricky, since sponsors didn't pay for national exposure...
NS is a no-brainer. It's BOG in a GF, so if there are 2 GF, there are two medals. You can winning one in a losing effort, so why not a draw?
Premiership medals are a bit different, because they're handed out for winning the GF, and Davis didn't do that. On the other hand, aren't there...
No, my memory is wrong. I did find out they didn't start with the tigers colours. From their website, their original jumper was navy blue with a red sash. The yellow and black didn't come in until 1960.
Except that they're both around still very much in their original inner west locations. (Balmain has also ditched the tigers name/jersey for a deal with the Dockers, but that's another matter.)
On that note, though, I've always wondered whether the rl team took the tigers moniker from the...
Anyone who thinks any particular pair of GWS/Tigers jumpers are similar is stupid.
Anyone who thinks that's what the Tigers are saying is just as stupid. The point is that anyone who hasn't just looked at a couple of pictures from this year will think they are the same colours. Balmain, and...
Yes, but the Ngunnawal dictionary is pretty good evidence that any number of games might have been called woggabaliri at some point or another. The name isn't the issue...
Never heard of oral history?
That might make sense if the caption was making any sort of claim about this...
Re: Official Summer of Cricket 2010/2011 Thread
Well yeah, but noone ever suggested anything different. A single performance might keep a spot, but it doesn't get you one to start with. Hauritz was always coming back in, just like Bradshaw once he was fit.
Whehter Hauritz deserve the spot...
I'm not convinced by this Woggabaliri thing, mainly because it clearly wasn't recorded as serious historicalresearch, but I'm not sure why people keep going on about this as though the people playing the games cared about state borders. The place the etching is from is much closer to Wiradjuri...
Re: Official Summer of Cricket 2010/2011 Thread
Might be a better option, but he was only playing to give ritzy a useless change to play a shield game and come back for the second match. It's not quite the same as being dropped.
Exactly. This year and next year, Adelaide and Perth see 22 home games. Next year, this goes for Brisbane/GC too.
This year, there was a week off during the split round. Next year, the season is a bit more spread out with two weeks off, and they happen at different times for different...
Going by this and other Google searches, I'd say it's just a North American take on what a ruckman does... there's no particular reason a Canadian newspaper would know much about rugby anyway.
Of course it's reasonable for Collingwood to choose. The point is that this choice is stupid. The (new) black one just makes it worse for both teams.
Stupid Collingwood as always - hopefully they still do well enough to stop the aints getting another one.
I wouldn't be happy with the alternative you set out, but he didn't have a great game. Got into some angry extended off-the-ball bumping in the second q and he didn't seem all there for a while after that.
