Review R8: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Port Adelaide

The idea that free kicks are a lottery and you just have to roll the dice is plainly ludicrous. Umpire decisions may be lotteries, but a decision is either correct or incorrect. It's not good enough to say "you gave the umpire an opportunity to pay an incorrect decision".

I assume he's been playing as a forward? Every highlight is him kicking a goal.

We have a bye in four weeks anyway. Nurse him through until he's ready to play and then SANFL until after the bye.

Review R8: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Port Adelaide

If Friday night was the first tine he'd brought it up, fair enough. But I've heard him mention it at least a dozen times since it happened. Probably closer to twenty.

Review R8: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Port Adelaide

It's very weird how you always react this way to any perceived criticism. No, I'm not saying that the club employed nutritionists don't know what they're doing. I'm saying that I'm amazed by it. It doesn't seem optimal to me, a layperson with no real nutrition knowledge. Obviously I'm not...

Maybe that's the club's thinking. Okay boys, fill up one paper plate from the fried food we stashed in the sink, and in return promise us you're not stopping at Cafe De Vili's on the way home.

Review R8: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Port Adelaide

ANB I think will definitely go into coaching, whether it's with us or someone else. Walker to me seems more likely to end up just being one of those guys who sticks around the club, perhaps does some media, and never has to pay for a drink for the rest of his life. I don't mind him either, at...

Review R8: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Port Adelaide

It always amazes me that for professional athletes, they have a bunch of fried food to snack on after the game. Crumbed pork chops, garlic bread, pies, burgers? The dim sims are seemingly the healthiest option there. I get that they've just run their guts out a burned a zillion calories, but...

Review R8: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Port Adelaide

I'm 99% sure Dwayne has something in the pocket ready to go for almost every player/scenario. For all his many flaws as a commentator, he is always very prepared. Does he follow it up with "no steal" or "no epic steal" or something like that? I was trying to work out if it was some kind of pun...

    Player Watch Brayden Cook

Certainly a massive improvement on when he first came to the club. Cook apparently ran 15.2km on the weekend, so the training paid off for him!

    Player Watch Brayden Cook

Interesting tidbit in the AFC article about Cook's kick: Him and Welsh both worked together in the off-season to improve their fitness. It's definitely paid off for Cook, now over to Welsh.

Review R8: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Port Adelaide

Everyone gets bodied sometimes. Murray got brushed aside like a 200cm child. And then stood and watched as his opponent jogged off with the ball. Let's just say, he's fortunate to have been given an opportunity at a time when all three of our key forwards are hurt. He'll get plenty of...

Review R8: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Port Adelaide

I'd like to think I have a pretty established history of looking for positives more than negatives on here. Some of Murray's moments on the weekend I wouldn't accept from an U16s player. Other moments were quality. His AFL future depends on being able to remove the former from his game. Can he...

Review R8: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Port Adelaide

As I said, his good moments were quality. It was how decisively he was beaten in the bad moments that concerned me.

    Preview R9: Changes vs. Richmond

Okay? Berry is our leading clearance player for the season. He had one fewer clearance than Soligo and Rankine on the weekend, while also providing a whole heap more. Again, I'm not trying to say he's our best player. But the idea that he should be dropped from the side is crazy.

    Preview R9: Changes vs. Richmond

Nobody here is talking about him being elite, either. But that's not what the discussion is about, is it? People here are talking about dropping him for next week, saying that he doesn't have a place in our midfield at all. He's not elite, but he's pretty damn handy.

    Preview R9: Changes vs. Richmond

This might be a fair point if he had, say, 12 touches and 19 tackles. But he had 29 touches and 19 tackles. That means he was first to the ball a hell of a lot... and then when he wasn't, he was able to nullify the contest 19 times. Are we really going to say that he should have won the ball 48...

Review R8: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Port Adelaide

Thilthorpe wasn't getting bodied off the ball like that in game three. Neither was Walker, or Fogarty. Or Maley. Hell, neither were Gollant or Burgess. I'm prepared to give him time, but I'm concerned.

Review R8: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Port Adelaide

If he could bring those balls to ground, rather than just being comprehensively beaten, I'd be okay with it. As poor as Thilthorpe was Friday night, at least he usually managed to neutralise the contest. Murray was just cleanly beaten - except for the couple of crucial times that he wasn't...

Opinion Non-Crows AFL 14 "Put your Foot in it"

Lots of kids manage to play both basketball/cricket and Aussie rules footy. But I would wager very few people are playing both rugby and footy. If you want to attract those star rugby players over, you have to make it worth their while. The population sizes of NSW and QLD is a factor as well.

Review R8: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Port Adelaide

I'm honestly not sure what to make of Murray. He was the only Crows player that looked like taking a mark in the first half. And he nailed those two shots on goal at a crucial time, one of which was an absolute beauty. On the other hand, when he gets beaten, he gets beaten bad. Watching Aliir...

    Preview R9: Changes vs. Richmond

Curtin's first three quarters were very poor. But his final quarter was quality, he had more of the ball in Q4 than the rest of the game combined. I'm not sure whether that was a positional thing, or just a case of him working back into form after a long time out. In any event, given he is in...

Review R8: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Port Adelaide

He didn't do anything. Had his hand on the player, didn't push them. You're 100% allowed to do that. It was an unequivocally bad call. At least with the Butters free against Soligo there was some push there and you can argue whether it cleared the threshold for a free kick or not. In the...

Review R8: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Port Adelaide

The thing with Aliir is that we actually did the thing we've all been screaming for for years, which is isolate him one-on-one and make him defend. Most of his intercepts weren't as a loose defender floating in front of another contest, it was him vs Thilthorpe, or him vs Murray. To his credit...

Definitely a real chance at earning an AA spot and a gold jacket this year. Not only is he using the ball extremely well, he's also defending well.

Review R8: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Port Adelaide

Can anyone decipher what on earth Dwayne screams when Cook kicks the goal? Beware the <something> Cook, no epic steal, or something? He's such a lunatic. There was a laundry list of shocker decisions/non-decisions that went both ways. As fans, we tend to only remember the ones that went...
