I didn't think Sholl was that bad, all told. Certainly not bad enough to drop given there are several others who should be.
Laird was pretty good, not sure why the knocks on him. Smith wasn't brilliant but I'd keep him in for now.
Borlase was awful in the first quarter but did well after that...
It's very much an individual thing. I know people who absolutely thrive on that kind of thing, and will gain much more than they lose from it, even before you take into consideration what it adds to their teammates. Others, not so much.
Let players be themselves.
Definitely Burgess is more likely than Gollant. I doubt Gollant would be considered if Tex wasn't out. Burgess is more of a replacement for Thilthorpe who will be out for half the season.
Of course, if Burgess posts donuts and Gollant kicks a bag, that will change pretty quick.
Honestly, based on preseason form I would have thought Jones might be the sub in this game. Versatile player who can come on and add some pace.
But it seems almost certain it will be Soligo. I assume they think he's not fully match fit and want to ease him in. Seems a shame, though.
I guess it depends what you count as midfield. He can still be essentially playing as a midfield even if he's mostly roaming around high half-forward and having the occasional CBA.
I'd love to see him in the guts more often, but we have so many players who are locks in that position (Dawson...
Who else in his player type is kicking 40 goals? Toby Greene is about it, right? There's a couple of dedicated small forwards such as Charlie Cameron and Breust but that's not the role we have Rachele in.
I'm more interested in how many goals he can create.
It's a shame we won't see him for at least half a season, but I'm glad they're taking a cautious approach. Maybe the stars align and we enter premiership contention this year, but it seems much more likely for the next few years so we need him back and firing then.
We now have a prolonged...
Himmelberg sometimes looks good in patches, but never consistently. He can come in and do a job as a depth player occasionally, but you wouldn't want him there for half the season if it takes that long for Thilthorpe to return.
I would much rather give Burgess an extended try.
Real shame :( But this is exactly what Burgess was recruited for. Thank goodness we're not forced to play Himmelberg just to give us cover in the ruck.
Hopefully they take a conservative view of his surgery and recovery. As much as it would be nice to get him back earlier this year, we need...
It was impressive, although he is lucky that Kelly didn't opt to tackle and went for the bump instead.
If I'm going to be a bit harsh, Berry really should have anticipated Kelly coming and dished off to Pedlar who was completely free.
I was busy most of the weekend so I'm a bit late to the party, and people have already said most of what I would say. Still, I'll put a few thoughts down from the trial.
Rankine continues to be the most exciting prospect we have at the moment.
I haven't been a fan of O'Brien, but he has looked...
I have lots of respect for bigman but there is only so much you can tell from preseason training form and drills.
I can't even remember the last time I saw Hamill in a match where he looked like he belonged.
Regardless of whether you think Nankervis should play (he should), the idea that Hamill is still being given one of the precious 26 spots in the trial match is a joke. He simply doesn't have it. Move on and try someone else.
I had an ingrown toenail that got infected, and I couldn't rid of the infection for a year. I remember a friend of mine had a fridge with a real heavy door, and it swung open one time and the bottom corner jammed against my toe, and I legit passed out for a second. Woke up sitting in the sink...
Damn it, I must have been looking at the 2023 fixture.
Still, there's got to be at least even odds that he snipes someone again in rounds 5-7 and misses the Showdown anyway.
When the MRP talks about "intentional", they're talking about the action, not the outcome.
They're not judging whether the intention was to injure Keane. They're judging whether the intention was to bump, or if it's something that just happened in the spur of the moment as some Port posters...
I think this is the key. There is most likely to be a spot for him back in defence, but we don't want to throw him to the wolves by giving him a major assignment like Walker at this stage. At least two of Keane, Borlase and Worrell should be in the side as well, so Curtin should be given the...
I mean, it does, right? Just because he's done well to take the ball at it's highest point, doesn't detract from the fact it's a contested mark with a defender right on his tail.
A contested mark doesn't only count if the forward allows the defender to attempt a spoil.
Also, Thilthorpe still...
