Pies the better side
Poor umpiring helped convert that to a big lead, as usual extremely inconsistent umpiring with the umpire at Collingwoods end paying absolutely everything.
Looked like we were set up way too offensively early, especially considering our rucks.
They were just running it out in waves fwd of stoppage.
Hopefully being able to play a whole game with one of Yeo/Ginbey in the middle should help.
2 of Sheed/Gaff/Kelly puts a lot of pressure on other...
100%, rucks were terrible, they also both offer little around the ground, generally terrible positioning.
North were getting way too many easy offensive clearance chains for most of the game.
Not sure if it was our poor set-up or lack of defensive ability from Sheed, Kelly etc.
Ginbey looked...
Main takeaways from the game
Game was lost in the second and third quarters when our midfield got completely dominated. Gone are the days when we had a top 3 Fwd line to keep us in the game.
We have a lot of players who aren't up to AFL standard atm
Chesser, Williams, Jamo, O'Neil, Long were...
Still trying to play the same game style when everyone else has moved forward and we no longer have the cattle.
See Collingwood for another version of this
We just aren't very good in our current state
Too much top end talent is either injured (gov, yeo, Allen, Kelly, shuey) or out of form (Ryan, Cripps)
Cole, rotham, brander, waterman, Nelson, Jones, Williams, aah chee are all average or below average afl footballers at this stage of their...
De ja vu from the St Kilda game
Team can only play one style of game.
Probably the worst tackling/pressure side in the comp, so when they lose the contested ball this badly, they lose complete control of the game.
Don't provide any supply to the forwards so the forwards push up the ground...
Defensive structure will have to change next week or the dogs are going to cut through us with ease.
The ease they've moved the ball from d50 and through the corridor is worrying.
Is the issues going forward structure, effort or disposal?
Don't understand how we are consistently kicking to an outnumber/intercept when we are playing so many talls
God, this is painful to watch
No effort or pressure, awful tackling, then basic skill errors when they try to play a possession game.
Putrid umpiring doing nothing to make the game more watchable either
Kennedy is too old to play 3 key talls + a ruck forward
It's unfair to expect him to provide enough tackling pressure, especially when the ruck forward provides nothing
Also Big Negative
God that commentary team was putrid
I mean 7 is always bad but putting out Ling + Darcy + Richo + Basil for a final
Is that really the best you can do
Yeo being out makes a big difference, as his rotation becomes gaff or sheed(both snails)
A starting midfield of Yeo + Kelly + Shuey looks fast/athletic enough on paper (although the wings become an issue)
Negatives- Umpires were putrid
Just disappointing the game was so close, it exacerbates how much the bad decisions influenced the outcome of the game.
Still should have won, had chances to put them away and we didn't take them.
Barrass is not a good 1 on 1 player, i'm still unsure about the...
Who said anything about being zippy or being little.
Would have thought it'd be pretty obvious that not many key forwards are above average at forward pressure and they negate each others strengths...
How many marking options do you need... Ryan essentially plays as a tall in the air
How many games at metricon before we stop selecting 16 talls
Exactly the same script as every night game at metricon this year, just north are a junk side
We can't move the ball by foot due to conditions, we lose the ground ball, can't stop any transition etc....
Just baffling
Not really sure what his role is meant to be
His one strength as an afl footballer is his marking for his size, which doesn't get used in this team
Doesn't pressure, doesn't tackle, doesn't kick goals, nothing player
2-1-5 at metricon now I believe....
Can't play the chip game there, and our contested ball is currently too poor to play any other style
Saints don't have a dominant midfield on paper, although neither did Essendon
Last 3 really
As everyone assumed the 4th quarter against the giants was the team conserving energy
After that effort it looks more like a lack of fitness
Don't hate it, he essentially plays like a key forward anyway, flys at everything
Not sure Kennedy has enough mobility to play up the ground anymore though
If you watched the bombers game last week he was fairly irrationally excited about danihers come back.
So wouldn't surprise if he's a bombers supporter or at least has a big soft spot for them
