If Voss goes this week it would be great to get a head start on other teams needing a new coach. Skipworth, Kelly, Giansiracusa, lade, Enright, Hickmott. I’d love a combination. Of Kelly and Enright.
Surely this best option is to use 3 + norths second rounder. As norths pick will still retain its value as we will get to use it before it gets pushed back by the compensation picks. I’d assume ours gets to be used first and not move before we get to match.
I agree. Cody would probably go at 1 in the open draft either way. Atleast now we know we have to spend our cash on bringing in FA players.
Zac Bailey - Brisbane won’t be able to afford the price we offer to match - he has already done the northern premiership in front on boring fans he could...
Theres going to be so much quality at 3 that teams will be jumping over each other to offer us huge overs. Richmond won’t trade, Essendon won’t trade and west coast won’t trade. If any team is chasing a top 5 player this year the only team that is willing to trade is us. We could essentially get...
The only logical solution is one of these two choices;
1. Use 4 and 27 and then take a player with Sydney’s first
2. Trade 4 back for two picks in the teens then use the better pick with Sydney’s 1st to match Cody. Then use the later of the two and 27 in the draft.
Either way we aren’t...
Tank to 1. Bid on Cochrane. Then trade 2 to a team that wants to get ahead of Essendon and west coast. Take overs including future picks (6 + 8 + future second). But ask for Cody to not be bid on. Then get Cody at 3 or 4 with a match with a pick 6 using discount. Go to draft with 8 and 18/19 and...
Thats Why bidding is fraught with danger. If it doesnt get matched no one in the first 5 get their extra pick. Teams like Essendon and west coast will be hoping a bid get matched otherwise they’ll miss out too.
If a team in the grand final buys pick 1-5 do they still have to pay 20%? And or do they get the extra second round compo pick (does it occur after the original teams second round pick or their own?).
What win. We still have to pay two first round picks and teams still get a compo pick for bidding. I’d happily keep the 10% but the compo pick is stupid.
Another option is if butters leaves and port get three firsts. They could trade two of them to get ahead of the Cochrane bid with us at 3-4. They also get another EOF for Cody bid at 1-2. It’s probably the smartest play for both teams.
We then get say 6 and 8 which will get eaten up but keep...
The problem with the new rule is it hurts bottom teams with FS and NGA players that are around the top 10 mark. Cody is more or less a Carlton player and we will match at any pick. Cochrane could easily slide due to his injury and being non Victorian. Why a team would not bid is utter stupidity...
Which is why pick 5 may well offer up a future pick to go from 5 to 4 in order to get a free pick. There are so many scenarios the afl have not considered to rig this NEW system they’re introducing.
If we have a pick inside 5 then it holds immense value as a pick here for anybody turns into another first round pick after bidding. We should be able to trade 4 for 6 and 8 realistically. It ends up being 4 and 20 for 6 and 8.
If Richmond bid on Walker at one and we have pick 3 which gets used up does pick 4-5 not get a compo pick as they won’t go back they’ll stay where they are as our pick just moves up to compensate. But if they bid on Cochrane first everyone gets a pick if port stay out of the bottom 5.
I think the team that bids shouldn’t be included so that teams won’t deliberately bid higher than normal in order to get another pick. But I guess it would also make teams prefer pick 2-5 than 1.
