Mods, I'm only in here to support my club, just as I was at the SCG in the late 1980's.
If it was only a crowd of just 18,000 diehards at the SCG, still I cheered for Gerard Healy, Greg Williams and Mark Bayes. I only want whats best for the Swans future..
Mods, #78 characterizes 61% (Referendum 2023) of voting Australians as unthinking 'rednecks'.
I note it wasn't shunted off the graveyard shift of inconvenient opinions (the Politics thread in the Skilton Bar), as was my response to #78.
Said 39.9% of Australians in the 2023 Referendum.
If it's alright for Adam to grandstand his politiics whilst wearing our club shirt - then it's alright for club supporters to comment.
In #911, I was wondering in an oblique sort of way, whether we are a club to make the tough calls, or are we just happy to drift along in a safe comfort zone.
GWS are closer to a flag than us. Geelong might be too.
In 2023, the two Sydney teams finished just where AFL House would like us both in perpetuity - 7th and 8th, and exiting before the GF.
Join your own dots below:
Geelong finished 12th, and now they've got Connor O'Sullivan.
The Giants made a SF, and got within a point of the GF in 2023.
GWS...
Going to have a huge 2024 season is Logan.
And he won't have to worry about dodging a monument.
Medium term, I suspect he'd stay - for the right $$$, as Cadsky says.
Good team Membling, but I would tinker on the assumption of full fitness.
Sam Reid comes in for Amartey, incl. as back up ruck. Cunningham comes in for Fox.
And a fit Sheldrick would have Rowbottom, and even Warner (2022 version) under pressure.
I think we've recruited well for season 2024...mids, ruck, backs.
Mind you, for us medico/physio holds the key for 2024.
Watching closely the develepment of young Patrick Snell from the Brisbane Academy, he has the size.
Pissed at the Lions for snaffling up ZZ, thems the breaks, but then we...
A better effort from our boys last night.
Harry Cunningham, take a bow.
The pre-game message from the club probably went something like: "..You're paid good money, the least you can do is crack in and tackle.."..Credit to all players, they responded.
Wicks..ok it was a sloppy act, but not...
Tuned in to Port playing the Bulldogs on Friday night. I was struck by the difference, Port's free flowing style, skilled and direct, breaking the lines, running for 4 quarters. Coach Hinkley calm and measured, hanging out on the sideline.
At season end, an in-house brutally honest review...
Wraps to all of our defenders. They turned the 'Carlton too tall..' narrative right on it's head.
Nick Blakey stiff not to win the medal.
Heeney adds steel to an inside midfield that doesn't always work both ways..still issues with the clearances..
Inside 50 deliveries: still crucifying our...
Dane Rampe: Best (not) on Ground.
A bit fortumate against North. Luke Parker, Captain Courageous.
Can we butcher the ball! ..talk about disposal efficiency.
Good game Hayden McLean, and Buddy tried his heart out.
Got some good young mids North.
Liking what Campbell brings, also Fox. And Errol Gulden is bringing it consistently.
Can't help all the injuries, very difficult for any club to overcome.
They went after COLA, then our trade picks, when will the vendetta end.
Kick your 4 goals Buddy, we'll send an autographed picture to AFL...
On the game: plaudits to Ryan Clarke. Muscled up, that's what's called intent.
As a club, we could use more of it. Also well done Robbie Fox, stout.
More generally:
Eddie McG. on Footy Classified, decrys the lack of an AFL game on a Sydney weekend day! ..Like he cares about Sydney football...
OK it wasn't our day - but it's the toughest road trip, and with a depleted squad.
Geelong's leading lights are team of the century/ hall of fame types: Dangerfield, Stewart, Blicavs, Cameron, Hawkins.
We were ahead of schedule in 2022, thanks in part to monster years from (amongst others)...
Reid -IN
Maclean -IN
McDonald -Sub
Amartey -nowhere
I suppose there'll be someone to help out in the ruck -and chase and tackle in the forward half..
The club is playing for second. Members deserve more..Tom Stewart will carve us up..
Coaches, you bottled it..At least give young McDonald the...
McInerney is no certainty to be 100% either.
The coaches and medical staff are closer, and I'm sure they'll make the right call. However seen from the outside, I'm thinking:
Out: Reid
In: Amartey
Sub: Campbell
Buddy is coming off a long term (9yrs), and very well paid contract. The club owes him nothing.
So, depending on the pay check for the 2023 one-year contract, he'd best deliver some good club spirit, and some mentoring of the young talent..
..that is, we have McDonald, McLean and Amartey...
Team attack and defense of course, however, on tactics:
..if I was coaching..
Clarkey: you stand next to Joel Selwood, all day..make him earn it. If he muscles up against our mids, there you are to defend them..
Hayward: it's your game for the team, you stand next to Tom Stewart, all day, and...
Brisbane played dumb footy against Geelong. Tom Stewart sagged back in defence, and the Lions dutifully kicked it to him. Dangerfield repeatedly burst though the front of stoppages, seemingly unhindered.
Make Stewart and Dangerfield accountable, we'll go a long way.
Can't see Reid possibly...
Sorry don't agree.
Amartey should have been medi-sub this week, and should come in for Reid next week. It's a structural like-for-like.
Who would you have Campbell mark up on next week, Blicavs or Cameron?
Gutted for Sam Reid. Such a big part of our our progress this year. It didn't help our cause tonight when he went off.
Rowbottom was our best. Equal b.o.g with their Sidebottom.
JMac gave us something.
Commiserations to the Collingwood supporters. One point is no margin to lose a Prelim final...
They run games out = we run games out
They're a bit ahead of schedule = we're a bit ahead of schedule
They bring manic pressure = we bring manic pressure.
As poster SM said: be ahead after Q1.
Just be ahead after the first quarter. We are a better team than them.
On another subject, I so...
