    Mitch Johnson

Big achievement... to average 5 per test is a testament to his improvement. However, not to diminish his achievements, but you have to factor in the lack of depth of talent in Aussie bowling over that time (perhaps apart from siddle in the last 5 tests who has taken about 25 himself).

Second Test - Australia Vs South Africa at Kingsmead, Durban (Fri-Tue)

Yeah fair call… even so it’s a reminder of what they can do (or more to the point, what our batsmen are capable of doing). At the least it dented our confidence. Cheers for the props though :D

Sheffield Shield Round 10: New South Wales v Western Australia @ Sydney (Thu-Sun)

Amazing the lack of depth of conistent performers at the moment in this WA side. God help WA if North (and Magoffin, who knows) play more cricket for Australia and less for WA next year.

Second Test - Australia Vs South Africa at Kingsmead, Durban (Fri-Tue)

One recent article I read, it may have been Ponting, said that they are confident both Siddle and Hilfenhaus will play. Magoffin is purely a precaution. If that is the case I personally see no change to this side. The selectors would only call on Bryce McGain if 1) we needed variety in the...

South Africa vs Australia Sahara Stadium, Kingsmead, Durban 7:00pm AEDT, 6 March to 10 March 2009 South Africa find themselves on the back foot against a revitalised Australian outfit that played up to its official number one world ranking in the first test. Now the two sides are set to...

Australian Test Side-Second Test v South Africa

Amazed how many people have called for McDonald out / McGain in. Personally I can't see the selectors changing this line up. McDonald did his job as the fourth bowler, no more or less. Was very economical and it's about time we had a bowling line up that doesn't leak runs like a sieve. Plus...

Is the Greatest Cricketer Ever going to debut? The Brett Geeves Story

Dorey turns 32 this year so age might be against him. I think he is leading the shield wicket taking column though. Magoffin is 29 and that is by no means too old to have a successful career. Geeves has a few years on him but that is all... their numbers have been very similar this year with...

Should Mitchell Johnson bat at seven?

As long as Johnson is still developing his bowling, and I think he has alot of improvement left in him, then it would be a dumb move to push him up the order and place extra expectation on his shoulders. He has scored some great runs for us at 8, so leave him be. It's not the first time a bowler...

North looking likely to debut in First Test

I don’t think that list is all that useful to show what a bowler’s typical speed was (it just shows a handful of deliveries)… however I agree that McGrath was much quicker earlier in his career. His stock ball dropped to mid 120’s towards the latter of his career. Shaun Pollock took a...

First Test - Australia Vs South Africa at The Wanderers, Johannesburg (Thu-Mon)

Good innings to get us back off the floor, but I just don't understand that shot from Clarke so close to tea. Was thinking he has been out caught alot lately. Then I looked at his list of recent dismissals: caught caught caught caught bowled run out caught caught caught caught...

Sheffield Shield Round 9: Western Australia v South Australia @ Perth (Thu-Sun)

Voges, and to a lesser extent Pomersbach must stand up for WA in this game... if it is going to be left solely to Wes Robinson and Steve Magoffin to score the runs again they may as well concede defeat now.

Sheffield Shield Round 8: Tasmania v Western Australia @ Hobart (Mon-Thu)

Far out, what a collapse by WA. Highlighting the efforts of the three players who have kept us in this game only serves to show what an average year it has been for the majority of the rest of the team. Wes Robinson, first year player, currently topping the team's batting averages (only...

Sheffield Shield Round 8: Tasmania v Western Australia @ Hobart (Mon-Thu)

I don’t know much about Drew Porter (for WA), however from what I have read online he seems to be an all rounder? Can anyone comment? Just seems a bit odd as if that is the case, then WA only have 3 specialist bowlers for this shield game…

the best shield winning teams for each state

For WA the 92 side was a gun outfit, beat NSW in a final in which the Waugh brothers both scored centuries... and Mike Whitney had a day out. The 98 team mentiond above had Katich, Hussey and Gilchrist and won two shield titles but I still don't think it was as strong all round as this (esp...

14 man Australian Squad Announced to tour SA

Will go to McDonald I imagine. It is an interesting one but McDonald's last Shield game where he took wickets will count strongly in his favour. The selectors are clearly not going to give up on their 'all rounder' fascination any time soon. The fact that they have selected two unproven...

Why is this match scheduled for Telstra Dome? I figured being the only match in Melbourne next weekend they'd play it at the MCG.

    Goal of the year.

Despite the quality this year, I dont reckon anything tops Acker's second snap from the forward pocket today... he was playing with millimetres, wet conditions, running bloody quickly in the complete wrong direction... got my vote.

Freo's squad is probably overrated by many... but they still should be better than what they've shown.

    Dockers - Waste of talent

Based on todays performance against north you could confidently say that Fremantle are rivalling Hawthorn for the most inept disposal and most innefective game plan. In the last quarter it was as if the Dockers players did not actually know how to rebound from their defense without kicking...

    Andrew Embley

Based on what? Doesnt really make sense to me. I reckon Fletcher is the least effective of the Eagles midfield. Doesnt know how to use the ball to maximum effect. Alot of short, pointless possessions... thats not good for a guy who is constantly on the receiving end. But Embley... his...
