Player Watch #41: Blake Drury - 17d/2 goals vs Geelong - keeps his spot vs Hawthorn

Patch was good. He was a lot faster than what we are seeing from Drury though.

    Player Watch #40: Eddie Ford

I think he would kill it on the wing. Has endurance, speed, marking ability and is comfortable filling in back or forward. He wants to kick goals. Play him as an attacking wing.

Taking 4 or 5 young players in is different to what Phil experienced. They took about 20 in at the one time.

Secret herbs and spices? Why can't people in the industry get their minds around the fact the AFL didn't rate Franklin pick 19 and McKay pick 3. They rated them both worthy of band 1 compensation and then the process is that you get the first available pick after your clubs first pick. The...

Player Watch #2: Jaidyn Stephenson - dropped vs Geelong & misses out again vs Hawthorn

I think any kick over 50m is considered effective? Even if it goes straight to the opposition. In Luke's first year I think he had more than 10 shots at goal before he kicked his first. Nothing much has changed in that regard.

And he is the only half back flanker in the league top ten for disposals. The others are all midfielders.

I think we have stumbled across a midfielder that plays in the Pendlebury mould. He would be wasted as a half forward. A mix of mid and forward is ok but with more of an emphasis on the mid role. We have Zurharr, Ford, Brayden George and Harvey to play as half forwards.

Player Watch #6: George Wardlaw - two-time RS nominee ('23 &'24) - the Warlord - managed vs Hawthorn

He hits low, laser like passes more often than anyone in the team. i'm not sure if you are missing those? His hand-balling in tight is classy as well.

    Player Watch #29: Will Phillips

I'm not sure that time on ground should be considered a negative. It should be something players strive for and aim to take their fitness to the highest levels. A number of our midfielders in the past have struggled in this regard. Cunnington and Ziebel would have been so much better if they...

Beats me why they can't get fit and learn at the same time. I think that is a cop out. More closely to the truth IMO is that we may have left setting the standard for our fitness levels to the playing leaders. That is a big mistake given their personal fitness levels for the past 10 years.

    Preview 2023 National Draft Preview Thread [currently: #2, #14 (PA), #19 (PP) #40, #52, #60]

The talk of taking a small at pick two and using Kosi P as the measuring stick. In Kosi's draft, in hindsight, would anyone upgrade him to the use of pick two? I wouldn't think so.

If he is so professional then why has he not either built up muscle or developed endurance or progressed his skills.? The way Hawthorn played against North and Collingwood is the future. Run, gun and deliver low quick travelling passes to a running team mates advantage. Kayne is incapable of...

Player Watch #46: Robert Hansen Jnr

We drafted him as a small forward despite his highlight package showing nothing in regards to him playing small forward. His playing style is suited to the wing. He was miles off it both pace and fitness wise when he arrived for the vfl. He got better in the vfl but he was still nowhere near...

I'm not sure if this has been covered, but, is this the same Doctor that ridiculed NM medical staff and subsequently sent JHF in for surgery that has ultimately butchered his legs?

One last thing to add. A priority pick? People think that means pick 1 or 2 like in the good old days. Not pick 30 something. That's what we gave up for Logue. The table nearly implies he was worth pick 8 and a 'priority pick'. Gees we did pay overs.

What's the point exactly? North didn't use the picks that are being quoted for three of the players listed.

The club should insist on receiving whatever the compensation for McKay is, based on salary etc... AND the actual priority pick(if they deem us eligible). In no instance should it be considered to be one and the same.

Give him a license to be where the ball is. I can't see the ball being forward for much of our remaining games. Maybe play on a wing?

    Player Watch #25: Paul Curtis

He needs to develop some ability on his right side. It's why he fends and it is also why he couldn't put that ball in our forward line in the last 30 seconds.

    Player Watch #30: Charlie Comben

I guess it's easier to find your feet at the level in defence rather than at CHF. I hope he continues to practise goal kicking though just in case he is thrown up forward in some matches. I still remember Lachie Hansen 6-7 years in to the system missing set shots and then claiming that he had...
