    Fitzroy Memberships and Donations

Thanks mate. I emailed the club to ask for some help regarding memberships but never heard back from anyone, even via email. Appreciate your info.

    Fitzroy Memberships and Donations

Just interested to hear from anyone who has joined the club as a member and which type you opted for. If you've done that, what the heck is the difference between a regular membership and 'hipster hill'? Clearly I've been away too long and just hopelessly out of the loop. For those who donated...

Review Round 2 Giants vs St Kilda

Not for at least another 12 months and not until Boyd has proven himself week in and week out in the twos. And you simply can't substitute him for Giles. He either goes in alongside Patton or in place of him. He can't play as second ruck, not until next year. Hunt had one poor game. Dropping him...

Too Many Concessions.....And So It begins

I'm a Victorian born and bred but I've been a paid up GWS member since day 1, so that comment is way off the mark. Victorians are parochial. They don't just hate interstate clubs; they hate all clubs that aren't their own - which is precisely how it should be. I would love for GWS supporters...

    Favourite part of beating swans?

Mumford's first, second and third efforts - in particular his repeat tackles in the final quarter (along with him just thumping anyone who came within arm's reach). If he and Giles stay healthy they are going to be an absolute nightmare for every other team and give our mids first crack at the...

Will the Giants land a big fish in 2014/15?

It's a pretty fair representation of my current physique - minus the excess body hair.

    No, it wasn't.

Will the Giants land a big fish in 2014/15?

You're not talking about Mumford are you? He left Geelong because they were picking Blake ahead of him as the #1 ruck. The Sydney money was okay (not exorbitant - $330 a year vs the average AFL wage of $230K - an average dragged down by rookies and junior players) but highly unlikely he would...

Will the Giants land a big fish in 2014/15?

Which (reducing options for the players) totally defeats the purpose of free agency.

Will the Giants land a big fish in 2014/15?

If Harry is the best option then we've run out of options. He's an okay player under certain circumstances but, as a defender, he's too easily negated and exploited by the opposition. In our team, at its stage of development he'd be a flashy liability. We've got enough kids who can be trained to...

What games does everyone think the Giants can realistically win in 2014

There is a massive difference between the games I think we COULD win and the number of games I (or the club) think we WILL win. The key question is, which teams do we think we could REALISTICALLY (with emphasis on that word) outscore? Aside from Cameron we don't have anyone who has proven that...

    Israel Folau leaves the Giants

Rubbish! He gave us the best he had; his coaches and his teammates loved him; he was great for the other players and when he realised that his heart could never fully be in a game that he wasn't able to master he resigned. No disloyalty to us in the slightest. Any issues that people have with...

    Israel Folau leaves the Giants

Completely impossible because it would have been illegal and totally unenforceable. If it had been part of his contract (which it wasn't) and Izzy had challenged it, he would have won without effort and THAT would have left the AFL with egg all over their face. Hell, any contract with that kind...

    Guernsey numbers in 2013/2014

When they've finalised the numbers I think it might be a good idea to do what Melbourne did last week and, for 1 day, you can buy a guernsey and have it signed by a particular player for no cost. Also, as a PR exercise I think we should, for a week or two, make it free to have the numbers put on...

Official GIANTS draft & PSD/Rookie Draft thread

Like Brogan, he's only a very short-term prospect. I'm not thrilled that we re-drafted Brogan but I think one of the reasons why we got him is that he was willing to be rooke-drafted. Not every player will be willing to do so as there is far less money and far less security. Going on what I've...

    Tippett

That's just a sad misconception. In a team with Ablett, Kelly, Champman, Selwood, Hunt, Mackie, etc, etc, etc and in a team that played a fast-running game style, Blakey's job was always to give the ball off to a runner. That doesn't mean he couldnt' kick or wouldn't do it if he was in a team...

    Tippett

If we take Laycock then it's as a forward-ruckman. If we want someone who is a first-class, pure ruckman then we'd be far better placed to take Mark Blake over Brogan or Laycock. Blake hasn't shown the ability to go forward but as a tap ruckman he's signficantly better than Laycock and...

    Israel Folau leaves the Giants

And the more the NRL and the NRL-media goes on about it the more coverage GWS and the AFL are going to receive and the more young kids are going to think 'gee, there's some dollars to be made in Aussie Rules, I better learn how to play it'.

    Israel Folau leaves the Giants

I still think you're right (sorry if it sounded like I was disagreeing - quite the opposite).
  21. AndrewD

    Israel Folau leaves the Giants

I was thinking pretty much the same thing. Rejecting League in favour of Union makes me think that his willingness to join us wasn't purely down to the money. Possibly he was already disenchanted with the ARL before he made the move to Aussie Rules and was looking for a way out or a fresh start...

    Tippett

The suspension is immaterial. What matters is that we'd have to pay him to not play for the first half of the season and then, in order to get something out of the deal, require him to walk into a team that had played together for the first twelve rounds. Good on Sheeds for threatening to take...
  23. AndrewD

    Tippett

Sheeds is just doing what he's always done; stirring the pot. He simply doesn't want to make life easy for the Swans and the best way to make them feel uncomfortable is to suggest that we're going to take the player they've worked so deviously to snare. He and SOS mighn't be in 100% agreement...

Top 3 in the draft - pick 'em

I've gone the very standard Whitfield & Toumpas for the first two picks but I'm not sure which way the club will turn on Menzel, Plowman and O'Rourke. If it were up to me I would take Menzel (assuming we're 100% fine with his medical tests) because I think he's got that little bit of spark that...

    Our New Jersey

Agreed, and I don't like it when any club makes significant changes to the guernsey without consulting the members. Brisbane did it and there has continued to be significant (and deserved) backlash. Not only did they put their own supporters off-side, they severely damaged their revenue stream...

    Israel Folau leaves the Giants

Exactly! The experiment didn't work out as hoped but it certainly wasn't without merit. Unlike a lot of others (and I'm disappointed by the ones who I know did play at a high level) I don't think it was ever a case of Izzy not trying. People don't seem to understand what it's like to be...

    Our New Jersey

Those first two guernseys look like the plodder worn by the Brisbane Bears and the last one has the colours around the wrong way. Orange stands out, it's unique and it has to be retained as the primary colour. Regardless, I'm surprised that the AFL would give the okay for a jumper change after...

    Still an epic fail?

The GC song is bloody awful ! Totally overproduced and gives supporters nothing to sing along to - no chorus or hook they can get into. That's the whole point of a club song - it's something simple and timeless that the team and supporters can sing not a piece of waffle that needs to be performed.

    Still an epic fail?

True, the Western Bulldogs song is a shocker but it's also quite new. The old, traditional Footscray song was and still is genuinely good. Regardless, compared to the Fremantle song ours is a work of genius; but I still think it's a bit on the silly side.

    Still an epic fail?

The logo, the colours and the guernsey ; love them. The song, that's an entirely different story. We do get novelty points for being the only club to embrace polka music and I agree, it is the best of the 'new clubs' (including Brisbane's decimation of the Fitzroy classic), but compared to the...
