I think this Geelong team is built for MCG football.
The forwards love the space and our running power is consistently underestimated. Even last year we played some decent football there.
We are due an off week is the main worry.
Clark will be a slow burn. Not unlike Bruhn, tough for a youngster in that combative midfield role. The tackles are not sticking.
He will emerge when he gets some size on.
The midfield rotation is working superbly. Throwing huge numbers through there. The back 6 and forward 6 are very stable and then throwing different players through the middle.
It seems to be working.
I’m not saying the club should go there expecting to lose. I am just saying as a fan, this is not a game I will be too concerned if we drop it, and I am not expecting to win.
I would see this as a big bonus to win it and have us ahead of the game in terms of securing top 4/top 2.
I’d say anything around 1.50 for the Lions is good shopping. They need to win. They are at home. And are back in form. Geelong are due a loss.
If you are looking at the fixture for 17 wins and a home final, this is not one I would mark as needing to win.
Neale is so close to being a very dangerous forward - the height, the athleticism, the skills, reads the game well.
But the last mile is the hardest part, he is just not holding onto enough of those overhead marks.
He gets to the right spot, looks ready to take it and they just spill out...
This is all a bit grubby, I think Mackie could have deflected that much better, and he was naive to think his comments would not be misconstrued.
And it is a shame to invoke Stengle’s name as a comparison. His transgressions never went to his underlying character. And he seems like a genuinely...
Yep, Gawn was about 23 I reckon when he played his big breakout game in Enright’s 300th. That was the age he really emerged. He also had injury issues early.
Hawkins (managed)
Clark (omitted)
Zac T (omitted)
In Conway, Mannagh, Mullin.
Can’t find a spot for Neale with Stanley being so good last week.
So I think we will adjust the structure to accommodate getting Conway back in.
We were uncharacteristically sloppy in the forward half when we had control and should have buried them.
The Bulldogs predictably controlled the midfield as game wore on and we just held on.
Stanley was very important to the win, we got an unexpected win in that ruck duel and that tipped it...
O’Connor’s numbers are a bit low but I am happy with his form.
I am sure he has a pretty specific role in the team, that is a selfless role.
He has been really hard over the ball and is a mature body we need around the midfield.
The short break will not be an excuse this early in the season.
They always say multiple 6 day breaks are much more problematic than one 5 day break.
The Bulldogs always struggle with how we set up. A loss here against a 6-10 side be very disappointing on neutral territory (though Danger is...
Hawkins must be near the top of the games won in AFL/VFL, looking at the players above him on games played, several would be knocked out for playing on poor teams at some stage in their careers.
The key to the season is going to be getting Danger and Guthrie, fit and firing. I am not comfortable going into any game against a top 4 team with that midfield. They are doing a commendable job but we have not come up against any top 8 midfields yet.
Our best 7 defenders are very solid and...
I think the biggest difference between last year and this year has been the backline has really tightened up.
We leaked too many goals last year, and we have addressed that.
Jack Henry is playing sensational football and SDK is trending in right direction. Plus Kolo is back to 22 form.
I am a Knevitt guy. Still think he will be a very good player for Geelong.
Not sure why they seem to have lost a bit of faith in him. That is his biggest concern at the moment. Getting the opportunities back in the seniors.
Will be a lot of turnover of the list this year. Our last 5-6 on our list are very poor indeed, and throw in a few retirements you are looking 7-8 off the list.
