    I think that 7 and 8 for Petracca and 24 is a very good deal for Melbourne.

    Given Oscar Allen, Starc is just like any uncontracted player and the dynamics are exactly the same.

    There is no uncertainty. RFA can just act like a normal uncontracted player if they want. Or can go the RFA route. Where an offer is made. Then if it’s matched, the player accepts or rejects the matched offer. If he accepts, then he stays. If he rejects, then he becomes just like any...

    It hasn’t increased salaries overall though. Just transferred cash between players. The salary cap would be the same with or without free agency.

    And while I’m here, why do bands 1, 3 and 5 link to finishing position, but bands 2 and 4 don’t? Potentially the stupidest AFL policy mechanism of all time, and that is certainly saying something.

    Biggest issue is with the compo. Clubs now use cash to get players for no picks. All the compo picks for overpaid free agents screws the other 16 clubs not involved in the transaction. Also, is disagree that free agency has led to higher salaries. That would have happened anyway.
