Snorkle still liveth, but like LAB is over the sh-t that comes up on this site most days, Aspley are moving forward and don't need me to sing their praises as very soon like it or not they will be just as big if not bigger than Southport (this time wll accomath) - just as in any fledgling...
Well done Tiger,
Its good to see your passion for your local NEAFL team and good luck to the Bombers this year - it would be good to see them have a change of luck this season.
Oddball,
The lesson as you put it is well versed - but I believe you are missing the glearing factor and the major point I was making - Aspley was put in a position 3 years ago to build a senior side to compete in the AFLQ State Leauge competion and most players who at the time of their demise...
Tich, Tich Doc,
Aspley's recruiting this year might make the other Aspley bashers a little more subdude on this forum in the future - Hornets bashed for having to many interstate recruits (dont you remember that the boys from the Northern Eagles and most other clubs did not want to go there)...
maurie,
You are quite right with your comment above, but breaking it down most current NEAFL coaches are full time, their time through the year in the off-season is spent on recriuting, talking to and helping players through, planning - finding jobs and digs for new players ETC, and through...
Buchannon, Thomson, Linton and McKee have signed for 2012. 3 of which will start in the midfield and one that is a gun half forward flanker. can't be to bad at the club. After speaking with Thomo half way through last year, he said the club is as professional as it can be for a local footy club...
i think the club gets a fine. Back in 2008 Rolfe and Denjies both played a state league game instead of being rested for the carnival and they both didnt play round 1 of the state champs
nothing but spoon! gilliland wants to have a meeting with aspley! Lake,Vearing,Fufaro all getting older. James wants to play with aspley.
Good Luck maurie:)
Wonder if thats the whole Brain family then Snorkle - if so they would have needed a good sized bus!:)
family owns a pub up the coast! off the planet the old brain train, just heard today that roy is gone aswell! Now think to myself how are aspley going to gel with pretty much a new team
If not 2012 deffinately 2013 if the squad stays together. Good youngsters that have played over or close to 50 games now that are at an age of 22 and below (eg. Reid, Stanley, Hughes, Thomson, Hutchinson, Toye, Colch, Bevan, Mckee, James and Ives) exciting things to come for the hornets...
I would have said in answer to this question the playing surface is like your playing staff - if you dont look after it (or them) it dissappears (or they).
You got me there Mega, you know when you wake up in the morning like the movie the hangover - even I could not understand it (full of crap) when I logged on. Xmas parties do not mix well with footy switched on bloggers.
Cheers.
The very sheepish Snorkle.
Kerin Jack is a spooner who not have been given a look in if his old man was a not a rugby (poo) league ledgend - in his first 3 years did not get a kick.
PapaJ,
No attachment, I have followed and admired his progress in footy as he was one of the best junior players I had seen go through the Qld system (on a par IMO with Vossy and Reiwald) and then not to get picked up, its very political up here in Qld - it seems to me to be who you are rather...
Smy1305,
Good point in regard to getting out of Qld straight after the draft, but unfortunatly most 18 year olds need stability and guidence, packing up and moving to a new State, Club and Structure would be very daunting for most kids, this clumped with the restrictions put on by the dream...
Lee Spurr was an absolute gun at all ages of his Qld junior levels, played two sensational U/18 year's in the national championships - Vice Captained the Allies Side then played a senior year with Morningside but for some unknown political reason he got overlooked, he got so frustrated with the...
Damo,
In reference to your observation - I dont believe it is the junior club administrators that can be blamed for the talented kids not being drafted it is more so in Qld's case the development staff who play politics with kids futures, A perfect example of this has just been witnessed with...
Brisvegas,
Good point on how many - but if there is a talented young player out there currently playing in (I suspect the PHC) then why not ask him to try out with a state league side, or would you want him to travel to another south side club to play.
There is a difference in trying out IE...
Thunderdoc,
For the record, Bevan, Thomson & Hughes played in an U/12s Div 1 Premership Side for Aspley then followed a coach to Sandgate & Colch Started at Kedron - but apart from this I do agree, lets not get bogged down with with the negitive and move on with the positive.
Also for some...
This is a very interesting appointment for me, although the word for some time was that he was moving on, I thought he was going to the GC Suns until Travis Auld got the gig - I wonder how long it will take before he (Griffo) gets the same knife in the back that Marty King recieved? Their track...
LAB,
I dont think it was the case of not wanting to play AFL - Rex to me would play any sport including marbles only if he did not have to train for it - as he is that sort of a kid - I think it was more that he did not want to put the effort in to achieve at the top AFL level, I have known Rex...
stuyd,
Well put, in regard to the media involvement: what hope have we got to improve the content of our leauges exposure when the poobars at AFLQ are sitting in their offices on their hands, I have not seen a northern post in months on the NEAFL news page - surley some clearance forms have been...
riodj,
Beg to differ on your point of no senior exposure - apart from Victoria with the TAC Cup comp most 17-18 year olds (with the bigger bodies and the ability), once their state duties are completed go directly into either seniors or reserves in their top comps within their state of origin...
stuyd1,
I dont agree with you on the VFL being the best or strongest comp in the land after the AFL - the SANFL and the WAFL are very, very good comps with some fine players who would rival the VFL in most areas - the one thing that Victoria has is the TAC Cup Comp which takes away the 16 - 18...
Seems for a skinny draft this year according to the experts, not too many mature age players got picked up, as a suporter I would rather a tried and true player who can play than what some recruiters describe as a project player - lots of project players dont get a senior game - so if you cant...
I am sure that the corresponding pay packet will be increasing in the PHC comp as the class players who are dropping back will lift the profile of the comp and increase the support as well - good to see the second tier of AFL footy in Queensland is in a healthy condition and looking to an...
