That's exactly my point, a side that isn't even finals bound had plenty of opportunities to beat "your mob" (nice phrasing for an "impartial" club umpire by the way). How are they going to go against the top sides without their home ground advantages?
I've only played the one game against Jimboomba so I'm sure this was just an isolated incident, but I have a slightly different perspective...
In a match right at the end of the season last year our 5ths took on the Redbacks at UQ. After being thumped on the scoreboard all season we were pretty...
The Priates actually said a lot more to the umpires than our guys did. During the whole afternoon, only one uni guy asked an umpire to clarify a decision and he got sent off for it. They were very patient and well-behaved considering the run they were being given.
Jimboomba got up by about 3 goals. Did not like being challenged though, and we're thugs all game. Umpires gave no protection to the bloke going for the footy at any stage, especially toward the end when it got really heated. One mulleted redback even had a uni bloke in a Brian Lake choke-hold...
That's not true.
Rather than the previous 1>2>3>4>5 selection process there are a number of past Div 1 players this year playing QAFA(A) as they cannot commit to the rigours of QAFL, but it's all an internal thing.
There was never any talk from UQ nor from AFLQ about our 3rds and 4ths playing QFA.
Except for a few guys who are playing 3rds because they can't commit the amount of additional time that's required to play QAFL, there is and always had been a pretty clear "top-down" selection policy at the club - 1 > 2 > 3 > 4 > 5
Good win by your senior guys last week, played really. I think we had a couple out, so hopefully those 2-3 coming back in next time we come up against you sets us up for a really close game. Redcliffe tomorrow should be another good test for our seniors. Hopefully they get the win and claim...
Powyer, Swann, Lutton, Westerhuis, Fairley are all guys who were in our 3rds for a number of years, pushed up into our higher division side, and then played Division 1 Senior football last year.
Yep, I agree that there's a big gap between each division but every side has players who would be...
1. If it could be any one of a group of 10-15 wouldn't they probably steal votes off each other?
2. Why is the "too lazy to play in QAFL" comment directed at UQ? If someone is good enough to win a league medal surely then they're good enough to play in a higher league no matter which club...
There will be somewhere around 10 guys who played 1's & 2's last year lining up in the QAFA side come round 1. They've all been playing in the practice matches and will be QAFA players this year. Cue the whinging...
Yeah, either that or I actually rate the team that we've assembled at QAFA level, think we will be big improvers and took Mango's comment (which essentially ruled us out of having any chance of performing well before he's seen us or the team has even played a game) to be quite insulting.
Ahhh...
Stranger things have happened, "bro". With the increased playing standard for our higher teams I'd hope there's a greater pool of talent at the club. The increased commitment required to play at that level might also mean that a couple of players who would otherwise be up to QAFL standard chose...
Yep, completely agree with everything you've said. My impression is that changes to the leagues can occur but the team above has to be consistently struggling for a few years and the team below must prove itself across those AFLQ "pillars". Also on the same page as you with the grand finals...
This is easy for me to say without my club having a team in the competition and I would be surprised if I didn't cop a bit of argument from some people, but here goes... The first step in developing the QFA is to recognise that there is no such thing as a dual premiership season. There is one...
Yep there's a few new faces around.
From the sounds of it a lot of the posters on here foresee us copping spankings every week, and I can understand why: effectively jumping up almost two levels in two years is a huge ask of any club. I'm not going to try to change anyone's mind on here as the...
Everything that I've heard has been about building the club into a long-term powerhouse. A large part of that is bringing in and developing the best young talent possible, and the scholarships are one way of doing that.
To be able to continue building into the future we obviously also have to...
