It could be as simple as he was supposed to be eased into the midfield with more experienced mids like Crouch, Dow and Clark around him and that hasn't been the case.
Let him learn.
Agreed we'd be in the bottom few for midfield quality regardless. No other midfield has been hit to the point of Ryan Byrnes starting at the first centre bounce though.
I think he made that same reference for about 3 months last season and it never happened. Could be just trying to acknowledge Campbell's work. That said, wouldn't be surprised to see it with the short breaks we have coming up and having the last bye this year.
Interesting Jones only played...
What midfielder was available last year? The people currently running the show can't magically fix everything in one offseason. Our likely 2nd and 3rd mids are injured, Windy and Pou still learning, Jones building but unreliable, Clark MIA again. There's been a pretty consistent approach to...
For all of our injury struggles, how much of a blessing is Lynch and Balta out on a ground that will just be kicking down the line. We'll have Max they'll have Kozi. Thin midfields each, just gotta not let Shai run rings around us.
The team isn't the finished product by any means, and Saturday was bloody painful. But we're essentially a couple of straight kicks off being 3-0 with the same availability woes as last year.
The coaches have prepared all pre-season with how they see players being best utilised, we don't need to start moving the magnets around off one below par week. We get our best player back, our best mid last year got his first run for the year under his belt, and we're playing at a ground that...
The coaches did adapt during the game though? Pou got pulled from centre bounces after half time, Henry was thrown into all the bounces at the end of the third.
Higgins' brain is so absent the opposition played on as if there was no one on the mark multiple times, defensively he's a liability.
And his set shot goal kicking has fallen off a cliff the last 18 months.
I feel like with this the goal scoring is always shaky with Butler anyway. Can kick a few or waste every chance, but finding someone to replace his tackling and pressure game is going to be important.
We just saw a club drop their captain for 2 months last season, I don't think being in the leadership group guarantees you anything. He can still be a leader at training without playing seniors every week, although he will probably end up playing more weeks than not.
Feels like a must boost week with the schedule swings. Going with these 3, Waardenburg in gives more options when selling Huk in the next couple of weeks.
I wouldn't boost in Browne just to trade him out again next week if you've already used one. If you have all 4 then maaaaybe, but probably better off using it in the next couple weeks.
That was one of our worst performances for the year and we still hung around, were competitive in nearly every game for the year. When you factor in the state of the forward line most of the year, it was a great effort to finish 7th and there's reason for optimism in what we can do next year.
