Redland def Broadbeach by 26 points in praccy yesterday. Redland kicked 4 early and then it was pretty even for 3 and a half 1/4s . Was ok game but both sides a bit rusty as you’d expect.
Any other results?
Yeah call me a weirdo but I used to enjoy Fineys old “Initially speaking” show, had a crew of regular callers that came up with some good stuff.
And from memory they did a lot of the history stuff the next night which brought back some memories
Looks in the ballpark to me but I’d have surfers inthe 6 over Lab and Maroochy a bit higher. Grange have recruited really well after making a prelim so anything less than a GF is underachievement.
Most clubs seem to be shaping up well expect a logjam of clubs winning around 10 games
The country teams and clubs are battling demographics I’m afraid. Just not enough young locals to fill the teams so it’s pretty much spend up to get enough players and talent or really battle to put any sort of competitive team out there.
It puts big pressure on club volunteers particularly in...
Going to be a great comp next year seems like majority of clubs will be super competitive and several of those that missed finals this year look like they will improve plenty in 2024. It’ll make for some unpredictable results which adds interest and overall the standard feels like it’ll continue...
80 or 90 on the track I’d like to see that. I’d be surprised if any club is getting more than 60 at this time of year remembering there’s academy and VFL training happening, schoolies , guys flat out with work heading into Christmas and recruits that come in the new year.
Not to mention...
Yeah and Sandgate dropped out of qafl and I think had a year with just under 19 . Now they are going again which is good to see.
Apparently the Vultures are committed to re building in the qafl good on them if they can do that but I can see some heavy losses coming their way
No way the Cats could do 100-120k.
We are already stretched with the current cap.
I shouldn’t speak for other clubs but my feeling is Aspley might be the only club that could do 120k, but perhaps Noosa, Grange, Labrador, Redland & Maroochy can get to 100k.
I remember in the 2022 GF the competition were cheering for Aspley because they were tired of the Cats winning. As the saying goes careful what you wish for.
Picking up a couple Mt Gravatt players including Leahy (gun) and Cody stackleberg from the VFL along with good retention means they are...
Yeah I went and watched Keilor on Goid Friday a couple years ago and it was awesome, would’ve been close to 3k there for home and away game. The locals told me the Good Friday game is the biggest crowd of the year (except obviously GF) it so enjoyable to attend.
Yeah was a great game and the venue importantly had plenty of elevated areas and stands for excellent viewing. A very healthy crowd indeed, not sure about 10k (capacity of regional grounds rarely more than 15k) but certainly was way better as an event over the QAFL GF which would’ve been 1500-...
It’s probably more common than you think. Simply have played 40 junior games at one club (making the player 1 point for life) and then move to another age 19, come 3rd season the are 1 point at a second club. Or 40 junior games at 2 clubs.
Young fellas quite regularly move clubs for a variety...
Definitely a cut above Aspley in the GF but it’s not like they are going through seasons undefeated. Time will tell but surely someone knocks them off in the next couple years.
Wolbers is actually a Broadbeach junior (moved to Brisbane for uni) but no doubt Aspley and Redland are benefiting from having been in a higher comp recently but those advantages will dissipate quickly as lists turnover
With Aspley & Redland coming from higher comps 3 or 4 never going to happen. Easy from the cheap seats to be critical but it’s a very competitive comp and it’s a great effort by the cats to have been up there in contention for a long time and the senior coach has been a huge part or that...
