    Port Magpies teetering

So re-basing at Ethelton was forced? I know the training bit isnt right though, because i remember the sanfl port was blocked to train on alberton by the afl port on a few occasions and there was a big kick up about it and thats partly where the bad relations came from. i also think the...

    Port Magpies teetering

There is definitely a lack of knowledge especially on bigfooty where theres about 20different versions of what happen going around. The port (afl) supporters that are still left are bitter and twisted that things didnt work out for them at AFl level as they hoped and blame everyone else apart...

    Port Magpies teetering

dyertribe werent you always rattling on about how the SANFL forced you to have a team in teh SANFL and you (port) wanted nothing to do with it? All of a sudden you've changed to you wanted a SANFL team but now its the SANFL's fault because they forced you to be separate instead? Seems like you...

    Eagles Coach

might be in the SANFL's interest to help south out huge developing area down there apparently and no footy presence.

    Eagles Coach

5 year plans never fail zest. Its a mystery that he wanted out of coaching and now all of a sudden hes taken on a 5 year contract, had to believe south could find the money to make it worthwhile for him.

Not one player drafted from Central Districts

You started off poorly with 'Money was no reason to play the game back then' but then slowly seem to come around to my pov at the end 'Was it because of money? Some parts yes'. Clearly you understand that, Money/resources/ability to attract and retain good players etc is what is needed for...

Not one player drafted from Central Districts

both doggies and port supporters want to put their success down to some magic formula for some reason....? Accept it, the reason is because of money!

Not one player drafted from Central Districts

hmm your AFl success is not anything special, most new teams win a flag with the concessions they get, yours were no different you hid players in the SANFL. If anything you are known in the AFL for the opposite to what you were known in the SANFL with your poor finals efforts and short kicking...

Not one player drafted from Central Districts

So why hasnt this translated into the AFL? I presume you still do want to win in the AFL right?;) No the reason is you were a big fish in a small pond. Pop a salary cap on and a draft and theres not much between the best and worst. Work ethic, belief, desire mean nothing.

Not one player drafted from Central Districts

macca's post above sums it up beautifully re my point about money. This myth that theres something magical that sides do to get sustained success is just that, a myth!

Not one player drafted from Central Districts

well considering i wasnt born until 1987 i'm not going to pretend to be a expert on the 80's, but considering the success of the SANFL cant be translated into AFL there are only two possible reasons, money and the draft (recruiting). So either centrals and port have really good recruiting...

Not one player drafted from Central Districts

Yeah you need to have the organisation/competence to make use of that advantge i'd agree with that sjt1, but then it comes down to money. Collingwood's always been reasonably well supported but hasnt really been a 'rich' club until lately when they've consolidated their support and now they're...

Not one player drafted from Central Districts

You're not telling me the reason you won so many flags was smart coaching? I dont care/know how you got most of your players but the reason you kept them and recruited good ones is money. If it was down to smart coaching or some 'secret formula', that success would translate to the AFL...

Not one player drafted from Central Districts

centrals dominate because of the pokies introduction. It all comes down to money. Its the same reason port dominated, money. At a youth level centrals have been successful developing some players that probably wouldnt have been recognised at other clubs.
