List Mgmt. 2021 Draft picks: 4/33/75

No, it isn't. Given you're two years into a comprehensive rebuild, I'd say three first-rounders, including two in the top 5 or top 10, makes more sense than a single top pick. Of course, you still have to use those picks well, but that should go without saying.

List Mgmt. 2021 Draft picks: 4/33/75

You need more than one more high-end draft pick.

How many of those are going to become top-liners? It's too soon to say but I assume some will be busts and some might just be solid contributors. Either way, I wouldn't be turning my nose up at using three more first-rounders. You're two seasons into a comprehensive rebuild. More youth...

More picks may definitely be preferable, to a point, particularly if we're talking about multiple first-rounders and a club is committed to a comprehensive rebuild.

That's a sweeping generalisation. Cam Rayner, for example, was playing finals in his second season.

List Mgmt. 2021 Draft picks: 4/33/75

You can't select elite talent with pick 9? There's a pretty long list of top-liners taken with picks thereabouts or later.

There are no guarantees with any pick but that simply reinforces the advantage of having more bites of the cherry in the first round. A lot of this discussion revolves around how much Adelaide will improve in 2022. What if you finish in the bottom two?
  8. Sweet Jesus

List Mgmt. 2021 Draft picks: 4/33/75

I'm not sure this changes the fact that the club that had pick 1 took a kid who was subsequently eclipsed by a kid selected later. If the argument is about whether the kid taken at #1 turns out to be the best kid in the draft or not, I'm not sure pointing to a kid taken at #2 makes the case...

List Mgmt. 2021 Draft picks: 4/33/75

Well, Petracca went #2 so that's actually another example of the #1 pick being eclipsed by someone selected later. Don't get me wrong, there are obviously examples of kids taken at #1 or #2 who lived up to that billing. But I think if you look over the course of 20 years, it's quite rare for...
  10. Sweet Jesus

List Mgmt. 2021 Draft picks: 4/33/75

I just wonder if the confidence about these kids who are rated #1 or #2 is always justified. Maybe JHF is one of the cases where it's a safe bet that he'll become a top-liner but that seems to be the exception rather than the rule if you look over the past 20 years. Most of these kids end up...

Is he? Wasn't someone like Lukosius similarly hyped? Admittedly, Lukosius went at #2 but if you'd given up two top 5 picks and something in the late teens to move up and take Lukosius, would you be cool with that a few years later?
  12. Sweet Jesus

List Mgmt. 2021 Draft picks: 4/33/75

Gee, people are confident about JHF. He might well turn out to be a superstar but I reckon I hear every year that the top-rated kid is "something special" and then lo and behold, someone taken later turns out to be the pick of the bunch or close enough.
  13. Sweet Jesus

List Mgmt. 2021 Draft picks: 4/33/75

You guys must really fancy JHF. I'm sure Adelaide hope/expect to improve in 2022 but you could quite feasibly have another pick in the top 5 this time next year, plus whatever Melbourne have in the late teens. I reckon if you go back through the last 20 drafts, more often than not there is...

Analysis The Weak Campaigner - What's he whinging about now?

On paper, it may have been a reasonable assessment, no? It's the fact Kabuki Cornes won't concede that it was wrong that amuses me.

Analysis The Weak Campaigner - What's he whinging about now?

I'm not sure I understand this post. Adelaide are clearly better than last season so I don't know where that leaves him.

Analysis The Weak Campaigner - What's he whinging about now?

So when Kabuki Cornes said this year's Crows team was the worst he'd seen, did he say "apart from 2020, which doesn't count"? It's strange to revisit his comment and add that qualifier. Clearly Adelaide are a better side than they were last season.

That doesn't make sense to me.

Why does he not count last season when you were terrible? Seems convenient.

Who do you have in mind?

    How good’s winning

So you would trade? As it stands, the Crows have a first-rounder, two second-rounders and then not much. I guess Crouch would bring Band 2 and McAsey might get you a pick in the 20s. That would be maybe 5 picks in the top 40. That's fine. But presumably you still want to strengthen your draft...

Who do you think should be traded at the end of this season?

    How good’s winning

So the tricky question becomes, does that alter the list managemant strategy? If you guys get to the end of 2021 and you've been OK, what does that do? Last year suggested a hard bottoming out - probably for the first time in your history. If you win 8-10 games this year, does it re-route...

Look at the way some Victorian clubs use "rebuilding" as an excuse to be not even competitive. That won't fly in WA or SA. The Crows are rebuilding as well but FMD give me the Crows over North or Essendon every day of the week. Carry on!
  26. Sweet Jesus

    How good’s winning

Yeah, you'll have to poach him from North after two years.
  27. Sweet Jesus

    How good’s winning

Crows have some winnable games coming up: North (a) Fremantle (h) Hawthorn (a) GWS (h) You guys could win all of those. It's the Showdown after that. And obviously Port will start favourites. But if the Crows got to 4-3 or 5-2 or even 6-1, would that change the expectations among Crows...

Crows will win this by 50.
  29. Sweet Jesus

    How good’s winning

Well done Adelaide. I hope you string a few more wins together. You guys are theoretically "rebuilding" but you're playing like you expect to contend. I salute it. But hopefully your weird insurgent spirit has died by the time you play WC.
