WC also have Liam Ryan but I take your point.
My question is basically about the shape of the Tigers' forward line after Jack Riewoldt finishes. Assuming Tom Lynch remains the main man, who's next in line there? Does Dustin Martin spend more time pinch-hitting or do Richmond look for another...
Clearly I'm talking about playing finals but making up the numbers. Eliminated first week last year, probably same again this year. Whether WC have it in them to improve on that in 2022 remains to be seen. I have my doubts.
Darling at 28 is not an immediate concern. Forget about Vardy. At either end, I think we've done a reasonable job of building for the future. There are talls and mediums who should be AFL-calibre players at the very least. It's the midfield that sticks out as the concern, and of course replacing...
Not much depth in the midfield.
WC have drafted one-and-a-half AFL-calibre midfielders in the past 10 off-seasons. That's a problem.
Well, they don't have Dustin Martin specifically but I'm not sure the top end of the list is the issue. WC's best 22 still includes 10 players who've been AA plus...
Like I said, I think we overpaid but not massively. I'd like to have kept one of the second-rounders we traded out. Also, Kelly hasn't been anywhere near as disappointing as some folks claim. WC overall have been flaky but I'm not sure that makes the trade a bad one on its merits.
You can say that about any trade. I think Kelly was the right move.
If we hadn't done it, we'd be sitting here having the opposite discussion i.e. Why weren't WC more aggressive? Why didn't they go and get another top-liner when they were ostensibly in the window?
I said at the time that we overpaid a touch but I don't consider it a huge blunder. I think it was the right decision to go after him and I'm happy to have him. I would have liked to have kept one of the second-rounders we traded out.
Closing fast. If you'd asked me at the start of the season, I'd have said the big cliff comes at the end of 2023. I think that's still probably the case but I have my doubts about whether WC have another genuine shot in them even before that deadline. It's been a disappointing few years.
It's...
I'm talking more about draft needs with regard to the midfield. We have very little young depth coming through. So I'm not too fussy about what kind of midfielder but we need to start building a younger core there.
Ok, that's my question. What areas do you reckon Richmond should prioritise in terms of adding readymade players?
I didn't think this was particularly confrontational?
Don't be so precious. I criticise those players all the time. I'm merely asking what positions Richmond need to address/upgrade. IMO small forward is probably second on the list.
If Richmond were to target a readymade player, what do you reckon would be the priority? Is it all about more midfielders? Maybe Cerra or Crouch?
Not sure what you guys think but I reckon you could also use a smaller/medium forward? Not sure Castagna has been giving you enough in the past 1-2...
