    AFLW AFLW/VFLW 2024 - General Discussion

The unlimited ASA payments for 2 players goes away after 2024, except in Sydney's case (2026).

AFLW AFLW 2022 - general discussion

I guess it depends on your definition of resurgence but the Bulldogs clearly have a finals-calibre AFLW list, even before taking into account the ongoing development of young players (7 Rising Star nominees in the past 3 seasons, plus a NAB League GF BOG winner). Considering the departures from...

AFLW AFLW 2022 - general discussion

Another thing I wanted to mention was the Ashmore trade, having said a few weeks ago that I heard she was most likely to end up at the Bulldogs. But clearly a late new offer from Hawthorn was made, otherwise she would've joined them at the start of the expansion signing period, rather than at...

AFLW AFLW 2022 - general discussion

You're not sure of much, yet you remain so eager to jump to the wrong conclusions. I referred to the Bulldogs as part of a group of "teams lower on the ladder" than Brisbane, because that's where the Bulldogs finished on the ladder in the past season. And I said that once. I also referred to...

AFLW AFLW 2022 - general discussion

If you did know what I was referring to, you wouldn't mistake what I wrote as disrespectful. No North Melbourne official has complained (unlike officials from some other teams), and the misguided bellyaching from a few supporters has been directed at the club itself. It would seem you just...

AFLW AFLW 2022 - general discussion

Oh really, I haven't seen/heard anybody from North Melbourne complaining about losing players to expansion (either now or when it also happened last time). I do recall Craig Starcevich pre-emptively complaining about losing good players (which never ended up happening), falsely equating...

AFLW AFLW 2022 - general discussion

Don't know if Ashmore is secured, but "most likely" destination is the latest I heard (though she has received, and reciprocated, lots of interest from other clubs). McWilliams is an old pro (particular emphasis on the old at this stage--turns 37 in late August), albeit a bit of a frustrating...

AFLW AFLW 2022 - general discussion

Yes she absolutely would have, and the AFL could have let that happen. But on this occasion, the AFL helped the Bulldogs out a bit. It's pretty clear you don't know what you're talking about.

AFLW AFLW 2022 - general discussion

What would have happened differently in 2019 if that first trade period didn't exist (like 2018)? Nothing. The AFL still would've been able to give Richmond the no.1 pick at the conclusion of the FA expansion signing period, which the Tigers would then still use to get Conti. I already...

AFLW AFLW 2022 - general discussion

Once the FA expansion signing period ended, the AFL allocated priority picks where they deemed appropriate. In both years. And the rules that allowed them to do that were set out well ahead of time, before they even knew Conti was going to leave. Conti's decision to leave impacted what priority...

AFLW AFLW 2022 - general discussion

The AFL allocated priority picks at the end of the first sign and trade period, which was always to be the case. Did the exact same thing in the previous year. No rules were changed to get Conti to Richmond. Arguably rules were changed to ensure the Bulldogs got the no.1 pick for losing her...

AFLW AFLW 2022 - general discussion

Well that didn't happen. What the AFL did do was 'instruct' Richmond to trade the no.1 pick for Conti, even though technically she could've just nominated for the draft. Richmond still would've got her, and the Bulldogs would've got nothing.

Swans would gladly have her. She's chosen GWS largely due to connections with Alicia Eva.

Women's Footy AFLW Bulldogs - 2022 Round 1 vs Demons

There is a second tier comp aligned with the season, now that VFLW has been brought forward. Practice matches were played the last couple of weeks, nothing this weekend though (I think, not sure).

Women's Footy AFLW Bulldogs - 2022 Round 1 vs Demons

I am sure though. The current ASA rules allow the best 28 (or 36 in an 18-team league) players to be spread out evenly. The current Employment Agreement rules, however, have the potential to heavily favour rich clubs and render the ASA rules meaningless. Simple as that.

If my club gets raided, it'll be because of the Employment Agreement rules, for which I already expressed a distaste just a few posts ago.^^^

Women's Footy AFLW Bulldogs - 2022 Round 1 vs Demons

If you have the league's 28 best players on your list, then yeah, expect to lose 26 of them. Now every club has two each. Seems fair to me.

Women's Footy AFLW Bulldogs - 2022 Round 1 vs Demons

No? The ASA clause says the top two players at each club can be paid an unlimited amount "as a direct result of bona fide promotions/marketing". Personally don't see an issue with that while the salary cap doesn't allow for full-time wages.

Women's Footy AFLW Bulldogs - 2022 Round 1 vs Demons

Nothing wrong with the ASAs, they are only uncapped for the top two players at each club. Employment Agreements, on the other hand, do have the potential to create an uneven competition. But clearly that hasn't happened yet, considering the poor performance of many of the league's richest clubs...

Women's Footy AFLW Bulldogs - 2022 Round 1 vs Demons

I count at least 9 ex-Bulldogs (Zielke, Kaslar, Arnell, Loynes, Davey, Chiocci, O'Dea, Kearney and Brennan) who have gone on to captain another AFLW team. Perhaps the AFLW website will be updated when there's actually an official club announcement made (likely involving ex-Demon Ellie...

Women's Footy AFLW Bulldogs - 2022 Round 1 vs Demons

Brennan was one of your better players just last week. I guess if tonight was the only game somebody had watched of her then I can understand why they might not "see it". Otherwise, one of the most puzzling takes on any footballer I've ever read. Had a bad run with injury in recent years but...
