The rotating 12th man has been tried before and dispensed with.
The idea of having blocks of 5 overs of fielding restrictions is an interesting one, and adds a new tactical dimension. It'd be worth trialling it in that super series to see if it's worth running with.
Peter Willey faced up to the bowling of Michael Holding, and BBC radio's Brian Johnstone let fly with:
"The bowler's Holding the batsman's Willey.":p :p
They played through to 6:30 to make up an hour of the time lost to the rain. But because the overs hadn't been bowled by 6:30, they could have played through till 7 had the light held but no later.
It was a frustrating wait for the rain to clear. When it finally did, it didn't help that Shoaib...
Surprising selection moves after the team had been unchanged all summer until now.
Kasprowicz would have to consider himself desperately unlucky. He's been one of the best bowlers this summer. And while Lehmann has struggled against Pakistan, I'm surprised they were that quick to drop him and...
The official crowd was 34,000; until that figure came up on the board I'd estimated about 28,000. I was in M15 down the bottom of the Southern Stand, the top level must have been well-populated above me.
Totally agree. It's not good enough for fans who paid to get in to today's play - yes, I was one of them. The rain can't be helped, but the disgraceful over rate meant not nearly enough overs were bowled in the time available and the paying fans were short-changed.
The Pakistanis aren't...
It does appear the interest is waning. The attendances at international cricket this summer have been well short of expectations; and the average crowd for the last Test was barely 10,000 per day. The Chappell-Hadlee one-day series flopped at the box office, and for the first time in many years...
100 in 44 overs was in keeping with the defensive nature of the entire game. During the break between innings, my mind went back to the game the weekend before Christmas last year when NSW needed to go at about 9 an over to force an outright and fell an agonising 1 run short. But this time...
There was no interesting finish. NSW had given up the run chase long before the dark clouds rolled in, and it was a relief when they finally did. I left during the rain break, expecting that the game was over, but apparently they came back for a few more overs well after 6 o'clock.
Great...
Not the most exciting day's cricket I've ever been to. The pitch looks like a batsman's paradise, and none of the bowlers at any stage looked even remotely threatening; but Tasmania plodded along to make less than 270 for the day.
Brett Lee was never going to be considered for the Test. It would have made more sense to drop him from the squad today so he could get a flight back to Sydney in time for the game tomorrow.
As for the game itself, it'll be interesting to see how Bevan goes back at the SCG. He has a first-class...
He's had injury problems the last couple of years, and was still out when this season started. I think he's back playing grade cricket now, but doesn't look like getting a recall to NSW any time soon. As long as NSW have Bracken, Clark and Nicholson all fit and firing I can't see how he's going...
I'm sure it will. I can't believe NSW choked like that, but good luck to South Australia - after the shocker in the Shield game last week, and being 4/20 today, it showed a lot of character to get out of that game with a win.
Channel Evil are showing Cheers and there's no link to live scores on cricket.com.au - has the game been officially abandoned already?
Thank goodness I didn't go down there today.
Bugger:( I was going to make the trek down to Can'tberra and pick up Destructive in Goulburn on the way through, but that's unlikely now.
But why did they schedule this one there? It's not even in NSW - North Sydney Oval would have been a much better choice.
No live telecast in Sydney today, it cut out at 4:30 because the game wasn't sold out.
This would have to be the first one-dayer in Sydney involving Australia for many years that isn't a sellout. And no wonder at $47 a ticket.
I already have pay-TV; so it's fine with me if it's on there. But I'm a bit surprised that none of the FTA networks are interested in televising the after-lunch sessions.
Whoever does it, I guess they'd probably take the English Sky-TV coverage.
I think it's great - at least there's no chance of it being washed out.
But why is there hardly any crowd there? The crowds at the Test series just finished weren't flash, it and looks like the TV coverage of Wednesday's game's going to cut off at 4:30 because the SCG is nowhere near sold out...
They certainly move the one-dayers around, with NSW's 5 home games all at different venues. North Sydney Oval's a great ground for domestic cricket, and certainly has a better atmosphere than a 80% closed off SCG.
But there's limits to that, and thank goodness we're not playing at Bowral or...
Amazing partnership by Plant & Ferguson. When they were still together at lunch, I was wondering whether there could be just the slightest possibility of South Australia forcing a 4th day and making NSW bat again.
But once they were separated, it was amazing how quickly the game was over. The...
I was out there today. Nothing was announced, and the scoreboard didn't change the number of overs remaining during the break.
Still, it's probably just as well there weren't another 2 overs. It was well after 7:00 by the time it finished, and even with the lights turned on it was rather dark...
No financial reason why he can't, he hit the sign.;)
Amazing day's cricket. I'll have to admit I constantly miscalculated the run rates etc during the run chase - the scoreboard was showing the number of overs that had been completed and wasn't counting the current over being bowled; and...
