If Mathews' bat had broken, causing a piece to fall on the stumps, that would be out. Or if his defective helmet had been knocked off by a bouncer and fell on the stumps, that would be out too. So it's not as though broken equipment can't result in a dismissal in other contexts. I have more...
I heard a lot of this "HOW DARE THEY" bleating when bowlers started running out the non-striker. For a while it almost never happened, then we had a handful of incidents along with a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth, but guess what? The non-striker pretty much always stays behind the crease...
That would be Len Hutton in a test against South Africa. He hit the ball twice but because that prevented the fielders from taking a catch it was given out as Obstructing the Field.
There's enough time wasting and clock milking in cricket already. If this incident encourages players to be a bit snappy about getting to the crease, instead of milking every last second and finally deciding they're ready to face the bowler with seconds to spare, it'll be a good thing. Two...
Listening to the Test scores on the drive to work one morning, heard that Jason Gillespie had come in as nightwatchman and proceeded to make 201 not out.
I had to pull over, I was laughing that hard.
Hussey's bowling is nothing more than a lot of innocuous medium-pace trundlers but he does it intelligently. Remember, he was centimeters from getting Sachin Tendulkar in his first over.
But he should never bowl more than one or two overs in one spell. Hussey's strength is that he puts the...
Of course India don't want the DRS, not while all the rubbish calls go their way. Wait until Tendulkar flicks his pads on 99 and gets given caught behind. Then we'll see it introduced uniformly, as it should be.
Clarke at least turned it around in his last innings (aside from the brainfade to let that total bellend Pietersen get him). Doherty is a good ODI spinner, but not suited for test level ATM. North I'll grant you.
Lionbear, you make a good point. WTF ever happened to Jason Krejza? Good attacking spinner who got a LOT of turn, took a sixfer, and then totally dropped off the radar.
Dropped catches, uninspired and reactive field placings, pedestrian bowling and Billy Doctrove cost us as much as the batting collapses. The good news is, we can only get better from here.
Re: 2nd Vodafone Ashes Test: Australia vs England @ Adelaide Oval (FRI-TUES) [DAY 2 - 3]
Just goes to show that the replay technology is only as good as the person interpreting it. Doctrove got it wrong with Harris (you could SEE the hotspot FFS), and he got it wrong with Broad's dive on the...
What a crap decision to give Mike Hussey out. Ball was clearly too high and missing the stumps. Have you ever seen a player get shafted by rubbish umpiring as often as him?

Precisely. They're badly missing McGrath and Warne, but that's not something the selectors have any control over. But I question playing Lee and Bracken, while dropping Bichel and Brad Williams.
Lee concedes runs like he's playing a one-dayer and Bracken, although he can hit a consistent line...
Andy Bichel has the ability to break a big partnership. He's done it many times. I'll bet that if he'd played in the final test in Sydney, India would not have gone near 705 in the first innings.
He's also a good fielder and a handy #8 batsman.
Personally, I think he does OK in the one day side although he is boring and unspectacular. As a test player he is hopeless with a capital CRAP. Scratches around for an hour and a half at a run an over, hogs the strike from his partner who is invariably scoring better than he is, and then goes...
I believe White's two 2nd inning wickets were an opening batsman and a middle order. Also, of the many 30s he's been getting, how many of them have been not out?
