Glad you’re still around Jen! Once you suffer significant illnesses, whether physical or mental, life perspectives tend to shift, the needs and the wants often become more obvious. Sorry for your loss of a close friend as well.
Myself, I’ve really had a gutful of working in a health system with...
You’re arguing semantics. Also, you’re making an assumption that SA will easily overrun Afghanistan. We are still a possibility of a 2nd spot if:
SA lose tonight and we win tomorrow
SA wins in a close match and we thrash Bangladesh by a serious margin.
Result probably won’t matter too much as...
I think it ended up being the perfect plan with Cummins batting to retain his wicket. If he played his natural game, it would have been certain he’d be out, even if he scored 30-40 runs. If it was say, 8 for 150, the pressure would have been immense for the final batters to absorb the heat.
I just saw the highlights. What’s even more ridiculous was when Maxwell got his first century, Cummins was on 8. So Cummins only scored 4, while Maxwell went on blast mode to get his next century!
I think what made this match so amazing is seeing in an ODI a record-breaking partnership at the...
There’s a real chance we can get to 2nd spot on the ladder if we win our last 2 with a decent winning percentage. Quite an incredible feat, considering how utterly deplorable we were for the first 2 rounds!
I haven’t been following this thread much, but just reading last couple of pages, I just want to point out:
- medicine isn’t an exact science, there is no absolute right or wrong when it comes to vaccinations and how much, how often? It’s a constant evaluation of current medical understanding...
Fun summer facts:
the last 5 opposition test innings (2 with Windies, 3 with SA) have averaged 146 runs.
the last 2 opposition second innings have averaged 88 (77 against Windies, 99 against SA)
Gonna be hard to pick man of the match on this one:
Warner with his 200
Green with his 5 wickets and a 50
Carey with his fast century and 4 catches (so far)
Just want to share my perspective on this. I played tennis yesterday in the early morning when it was around 30 degrees when I had to stop playing. Normally I could do 5 sets of doubles, but yesterday I had to give up half way through the 4th set. My breathing became out of whack and and also...
Great ton by Warner. Love him or hate him, he’s definitely one of the toughest cricketing nuts we’ve ever produced. Pretty good effort to battle through severe cramps in stifling heat too.
That Strikers/Thunder match last night was an unbelievable outcome. Was expecting a loss with a sub-par total, but instead saw:
2 wickets per over
Thornton doing a 5-wicket masterclass, going at around half a run per wicket
Nielsen taking 5 catches in a game
5 ducks in a BBL inning
highest...
We wouldn’t have made it to this round if without Ryan. Top 3 players for us in this tournament, even with that brain fade.
We don’t ever look like being a major threat anyway, as our scoring power is relatively deficient. We’ve gone above and beyond in this particular tournament.
I didn’t actually know that rule. Well then he should have booted the living daylights out of that ball, moving forward. Instead of the dance step.
The main difference in this game was mainly that goal keeping error. We pretty much matched them in every other aspect of the match.
You mean, if only he picked up the ball (instead of trying to dance around 2 attackers).
Good solid contests overall though. Proud of the Socceroos in this tournament. Every game they scored a goal, don’t think that’s ever been done with us in World Cup history.
Sounds likely it was “subacute appendicitis”. Where the thing is inflamed and not to the point it is going to burst. Antibiotics may do just the job to clean it up, but they can recur again and again. Good luck with it all!
I never really gave it much thought before, but Symonds was definitely in my top 5 favorite One-Day players. On his day, he could be just as dynamic as Gilchrist with the bat and probably more, as he could also bowl and field some classic catches and create run-outs.
Will forever be remembered...
I agree with you why he’s regarded as one of the best bowlers. It wasn’t just the huge spin he can create, but it was the manner in which he strategised his deliveries to plot the downfall of most of the wickets. The batsmen would either be confused with the sudden spin or is worn down mentally...
If you can bowl a team out for an innings of 36 in total, and win the match in 2 and a half days, then that is a trouncing in my book. Not sure what else you can call this?
Regarding Gavaskar, he also acted a bit of a tool too even though he is probably correct, but a little bit overboard with...
I must say, this has been one of the more enjoyable series that I can remember. A fair few controversies and very evenly poised series:
1st Test - Australia trounced India
2nd Test - India fights back
3rd Test - tight tussle
4th Test, 1st day - drawish arm wrestle
Paine was a shocker in that...
I guess it’s a subjective thing. To me, the Paine dismissal was a hard one, but not extremely difficult. You see plenty of those catches from wicketkeepers in the past, and with similar degree of difficulty, most attempts were caught more than dropped.
The Duursma mark was in wet weather...
Disappointing with the draw today, but I honestly don’t mind it. It makes the 4th Test a lot more interesting, plus the last session was pretty enthralling compared to most Test matches.
Indians were brave in this Test, deserved a draw.
No Paine dropped a sitter compared to the more difficult keeper’s catches. He had a full glove on the ball but just mistimed his dive for the catch. Duursma dropped a mark when it was raining as well, whilst dry weather in today’s cricket.
Holy! I just tuned in on the cricket...absolute bowling massacre! Would have been unbelievable to be there at Adelaide Oval during those wickets tumbling!
I really like the background story and the metaphor to the art - a loved one floating away into the distance, a landscape between heaven and earth.
Or am I reading too much into it?
I’m going to have to pick up some pencils/pen and start drawing something. I’ve already got an idea brewing. ;)
You’re talking about the rare game where one player shines above and beyond. For a team win, you need usually 2 good bowlers (to get your wickets) and 2 good batters (to build a decent team score).
I do understand your jibe at Zampa. He looks like your average typical spin bowler. The reality...
