It definitely gave a leg up. The same way getting Ablett, J. Brown and Scarlett for third rounders and priority picks that allowed teams to get Judd, Pav, Roughead and many more. Those have all since been abolished along with COLA.
2009
I think that's slightly unfair as a big reason has been their recruiting and drafting. Our only Academy player before Heeney and Mills was Craig Bird. Mitchell the sole Father/Son.
No priority picks. McVeigh the only top 5 pick from memory prior to Mills and Buddy
I was referring to you saying that I have had it too good for too long. Swans were in the wilderness for a long time.
As for Mills, we still had to pay a decent price. It meant we couldn't get Josh Dunkley.
Granted, Mills and Heeney have still been steals for sure.
I agree. However I think that GWS were afraid of setting a precedence of letting contracted players dictate terms.
I'm not sticking up for either side, I can just understand both teams' motivations.
You keep seeming to want to bring the Swans into the conversation. I don't recall swans having 20...
I don't think it's silly at all. By the same token I don't think GWS are silly for holding their ground.
It's relevant in this thread because Freo supporters are not wanting to pay market for a contacted player (I have no doubt that this won't turn out like the McCarthy situation).
I wouldn't...
Now you're getting a bloke who hasn't played footy for more than 12 months...
You haven't even got him yet. You don't have a second rounder and won't give up pick 3, so no guarantees he is coming.
