My favourite memory was actually off field - when I heard that Hurley had resigned after the saga. Thanks Hurls, for keeping the faith through relentlessly dark times.
I'm not arguing the substantive case (did they/didn't they) I'm arguing the procedural injustice of the CAS appeal (reversal of the onus of proof), the vindictive trial by media, the ASADA/WADA/AFL political agendas. The process that the club was put through to find the result that was...
Of the CAS charge that they were found to have been breached - by the reversal of the presumption of innocence and the sophistry of the strands of the cable argument.
I don't think it's dumb, it's supportive. It's saying to the people who've suffered the injustice - who he knows personally - I see you and I believe you. There's a huge value in that for the people who were wronged.
You didn't have to be at Essendon to know the truth of the saga - whatever your version of the truth is. Barrett and Wilson weren't there - none of us were there. Sheedy would have a better understanding of the main players in the saga than most. He's entitled to say what he's said.
Well i don't know anything of course so it's all just supposition on my part but I would hope that eventually the players will be exonerated. Why has it been brought up now by a board member? I think its because Hird is coming back to the club and it's a show of support for him. A sense of unity...
Of course it is the club bringing it up - in a way that no-one but Sheedy could bring it up. Innocence is always worth bringing up. Just because we've moved on doesn't mean that anyone has accepted that there was serious injustice in the CAS decision. The wheels of justice move slowly.
the procedural injustice of the saga sits badly with a lot of people. People like Barrett and Wilson want it buried because they were the mouthpieces of the AFL line. It was trial by media.
People like Corcoran, Sheedy and Hird spoke the truth. They have nothing to hide and there is no shame in...
If the option is siding with Sheedy or Wilson and Barrett, I'm going with the good guy. What he says is absolutely true. Never a bad time for the truth.
My favourite memory was the first time I noticed him, in 2016 in what was supposed to be the season from hell but was actually the most enjoyable season since the saga broke. It was the goal he kicked in the Melbourne game to win. It was unexpected and brilliant - like the man himself.
All the...
In a contract for services like this there's no point in playing hard ball once the contract has ended. Even while it was on foot, it appeared that EFC was working at maintaining the relationship rather than demanding that CM perform the services under the contract. - eg not demanding he come...
Always exciting and unpredictable. Go well Conor.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
I think the media's unfair response to McKenna's test results is a reflection of the social frustration at this season - and their livelihoods impacted by Covid. For example, David King's had to sit there on Fox making stuff up about football for the last few months, trying to appear...
In any case - the number of players exposed - and if it involved all the backs - isn't the player's responsiblity if there is an AFL protocol in place to say lines shouldn't train together
Yep, agree. Isn't the real point the utter stupidity of the club allowing all back line players to do weights together. Players only do what they're told. Contact tracing results will be interesting - whether its the house inspection. Think victoria needs to step up its community testing again.
We have an investment property in Melbourne which was vacated in April due to covid-19 (students lost their casual jobs and moved home). It's now been let (at a lower rent) but we were told that there were strict processes in place for viewings - no open house, each group had to have separate...
With the financial constraints on the entire economy I expect that yearly contracts will become the norm for many players, with only a few drawcards able to get multi-year contracts.
I've noticed that whenever JD speaks about the EFC he refers to "this football club" or " my football club". It's as if he can't bring himself to say "Essendon." Feels like he's fallen out of love with us....
Yes, would be interested about registration (maybe he lined it up when back home for the wedding.) Reminded me of English rugby league star Ellery Hanley who was brought in to play for Balmain in a GF years ago v Canterbury...whose enforcer, Terry Lamb, knocked him out at the start of the game...
