I don't know if I can handle another Redbacks season. The past 28 seasons has seen us finish:
Top: nil
Second: Twice
Third: Three times
Fourth: Five times
Fifth: Three times
Bottom: FIFTEEN times!!!!!!!
Wooden spoons in the past 28 seasons: WA 0, Vic 1, Qld 2, Tas 4, NSW 6, SA 15...
I expected them to fold in the 2nd innings. With such an enormous deficit, it would have been a mental thing. I've seen it all before many times in cricket. They would have been thinking, "let's make WA work for this", but subconsciously they would have been thinking, "What's the use?"...
Three full days to go, desperate need to two players getting their heads down and being there at lunch ..... and they start with a run out attempting a suicidal single. And people wonder why I ache over the state of 1st class batting in Australia.
Sheffield Shield cricket has always been my favourite, ever since I started watching in the mid 60s. When they introduced the final, it was in line with the attitude that you need finals, that you have to have results, etc. I wasn't sure about it then, and I'm even less happy about them now...
And the funny thing is, since the bonus points introduction, the matches have still been dull. Let's face it, we've had finals since 1982-83, except for the Covid season in 2019-20, and in those 40-odd years, you can count the interesting matches on one hand.
I agree with you. The way these guys bat these days, the only hope of a drawn match is rain. Just play the game to the best of your ability and see who comes out on top.
How is Hunt shaping up for next season? I assume he was injured for the final 3 games, but I never thought to ask the extent of the injury. If we can get him back in the form he showed a couple of seasons ago, that would as least solve one problem.
We're seeing it way too often in Australian 1st class cricket these days. The feet went absolutely nowhere, anchored himself to the crease and played around it.
Carey aside (only 2 matches), Redbacks only had two batsmen with averages above 30 for the season. McSweeney 40.11 & Manenti 38.06. Tom Kelly was 3rd with 28.83. The paucity of batting in Australian 1st class cricket right now should be a cause for concern. Are pitches being made too bowler...
I've never had a problem with them playing players from other states. We have a long history of this over the years, some of whom have been very successful. I think what gets up people's nose on occasion is a player from interstate seem to get more chances than the local product when they are...
He started quite well but since his 61 in round 2 against Tasmania has only managed a top score of 32. I agree that number 7 seems to be too high for him, especially considering in his past 4 digs he's made 4,0,0,0.
It's a big club. Batting in the Sheffield Shield has generally been anything other than first class.
I'm interested in Davies from NSW. Been making a mountain of runs this year at a superb average and is 130 not out as we speak. People were telling me he'd be nothing other than a T20...
Brazell 6 innings for 104 runs, average 17.33. Made two ducks, the other 4 innings he made starts of 25, 20, 29 (run out), 30 but didn't go on with it. In view of the fact he at least attempted to protect his wicket and give the Redbacks a start, I'll give him a pass for now and he deserves to...
Redbacks would be quite pleased with the end result at Day 1, despite batsmen committing suicide early. Brazell committed the sin of not waiting to see if the ball had passed the fielder and was run out. McInerney didn't get his foot across to cover the leg side and nicked to the keeper (how...
