He played the majority(if not all of his games in the reserves) and played pretty well as a KP target up forward, however he had some massive setbacks during the year which definitely set him back. He had a few injuries and then caught a bad cold(Glandular?) which mean he lost a good 5 or so...

Does it matter? I don't see how it is relevant. I rate Pj higher, and clearly we need more rucking options, but Jamar isn't the worst ruck in the AFL and for the next few years he is a required player at Melbourne(unless we recruit a ready made ruckman).

Why exactly do you want to get rid of Jamar? Because he is a spud around the ground? PJ is a spud in the ruck, Meesen is just a spud. And Spencer weighs as much as my left nut. Jamar is a required player for at least the next few years until we can come up with a player who can play a majority...

Bell showed a bit then went backwards. Dunn has shown a bit and gone forwards. Dunn is also a fair bit younger and has a lot more of a tank than Bell, in short Dunn has promise and potential, Bell is a known quantity.

Re: 45. Matthew Whelan Yes. Our other small 'shutdown' defenders are Bartram and Cheney. Whelan is better than both.

Disagree. If we are unable to get Warnock and aren't offered anything in the top 30 for him then we should definitely keep him, but he is not a required player. Sure he is much better than Meesen/ Spencer, but do you not think that we will be terrible again next year? If you do, does it...

Pretty sure he's on a 2 year rookie contract, which means unless we promote or delist him he can't go to another team, pretty sure people can't be traded off the rookie list either, so if we don't promote him I think he's stuck...

He deserves it, however if the list management team are smart it won't happen. He'd be on the extended bench every week but probably wouldn't make the final team, it's cheaper and easier to keep him on the rookie list and promote him at the end of next year. He's on our rookie list, seen as a KPF/KPD with the ability to play in the ruck, has had a bad run with injuries and colds this year, about halfway through the year he had a very bad cold and lost quite a few kgs. Worth persisting with next year. On a side note, he's a funny looking kid.

Re: 45. Matthew Whelan Definitely my favourite Melbourne player. What he brings to the team is exactly what we need and when he retires we will miss him. The toughness, maturity and mongrel he has in his game is the perfect mix.

Keep. Potentially, at the end of next year he could be worth a lot more than he currently is now, once his body is right and he's got some good game time into him.

Simon Buckley has all the makings of a star. He could potentially be the best and most exciting player we have next year. On a sidenote, I saw him down at the portsea pub a couple of months ago and had/has a very very fine ladyfriend.

There's room for Milburn Harley and Mackie in the same team. Good article, is he any chance for a leadership roll in the coming years?
