Don’t be too quick to write off Witts. He was always regarded as the better tap ruckman while he was at Collingwood, but I agree Grundy is likely to torch him around the ground.
I have a suspicion that Greenwood is regarded as best 22 internally at Collingwood, hence why he was rushed in to the seniors after such a long layoff, but I can’t say I agree. He has suspect disposal and he’s only really good as a tagger imo.
Regardless, we’d definitely need to pony up...
You could look at it that way I suppose. The last team that tried to do that to us was St Kilda in 09 when Ball requested a trade. It probably cost them a premiership. Not saying it will come to that, but sometimes these things don’t go the way you think.
Fwiw, I think that the Suns will end up...
Honestly, our forward line is functioning pretty well at the moment, and our backline, whilst performing well, is undersized and can be exposed by athletic tall forwards. Curnow vs Howe/Scharenberg today was a case in point. Moore would likely have performed a lot better on him purely because he...
Nah, you’re thinking of the Howe trade. The Beams one was straightforward, 5, 25 and Crisp. 25 was on-traded afterwards for Greenwood.
Too true!
Latest reports have a JDG re-signing as good as locked in. Moore might be involved, but the club is still confident he’s more likely to stay than go...
It happens to every club mate, not just yours. Lions fans were offering us peanuts for Beams. Sydney fans are currently telling us Moore is only worth a second round pick. Adelaide fans were offering us a third rounder for Scharenberg. It’s part and parcel of being on BigFooty, regardless of the...
Once again, saying “if you want him you’ll make it happen” doesn’t magically make us able to do such a trade. I agree that GC need to find the best possible outcome, but that outcome needs to actually be doable for his destination club.
Oh dear. It’s not so much about batting your idea away friend, but what you’re asking for are things that flat out may not be available. It’s easy to say “go out and get a top 4 pick”, but ignore the fact that the pick is unlikely to be attainable, or say “give us x player” without considering...
1. Tom Phillips needs to want to go to you guys. It’s your job to convince him to leave, not ours.
2. Yep, that’s easy
3. If you think that Lynch is worth a top 4 pick, + Phillips (worth a first himself now), + another first, you’re dreaming. That would be the most expensive trade in history...
A first, second and steak knives would be fair, but nobody is giving us a top 10 pick in this draft, let alone top 5, so I don’t see us being able to match that value.
You make it sound so easy! Firstly, you have to convince any player to come to your club. What makes you think Phillips would want to move away from his family in Vic to an underperforming club? It’s the same issue you guys had with Hawthorn. No players wanted to go, so you had to make do with...
Sorry for the intrusion, but that’s way too simple. Pick 1 won’t be traded. Nobody is giving up Lukosious, so that’s a no go. Assuming the ladder stays as it is, you have pick 4. So somehow a team who’s likely to have late first round picks is meant to be able to prize pick 2 or 3 from St Kilda...
You took Spencer before the rookie draft as a priority Academy selection, so no, you didn’t have one up your sleeve. The Suns had 2 live picks and they were both used before Collingwood took Schade. If the Suns were committed to seeing out Schades contract then clearly there had been a request...
He definitely had Grundy's measure in hits to advantage. If Grundy gave us that kind of service he'd be pushing for All Australian. I think Kruezer or Ryder will get it this year though.
Shows what I know....
Although I did say last year that Witts would be a steal for you guys. He had the better of Grundy today imo. He's everything I hoped he would be for us. Will be the best tap ruckman in the league sooner rather than later.
You'll smack us good and proper. We were never crash hot playing at Metricon even before we were completely terrible.
Should be good to watch the Witts v Grundy show though.
He's always been an above average field kick. Good set shot on goal too. Is actually pretty decent with his leading patterns forward too but his contested marking lets him down. If he improves that, then watch out.
We wanted more for him, why do you think the deal was done so late in the trade period?
Unfortunately though, you guys traded out all your picks in the 20's (which I argued consistently last year was a fair price for him) so we were forced to settle for 'points picks' which ended up being...
Great win guys, love seeing the cats get beaten! Looks like Witts had another good game. I hope you guys keep on winning, coz Wittsy was a favorite of mine and I want him to have success. If that happens then at least I can salvage something out of this toilet of a season for my club.
(Although...
Eh? He's actually been pretty good with his kicking. You guys have been spoilt up there, we have had to deal with the likes of Nate Brown and Jack Frost in our back line for years. Now they can't kick.
In Schades defence, Daniher is quickly becoming one of the premier key forwards of the comp. I doubt even the best defenders around could have done much to stop him on Tuesday.
Having said that, he had a bit of a stinker, but you have to wear that every now and then with sub-50 game players.
Not sure the media is trying to rub anyone's nose in anything, it's more that Schade, much like Witts, is a bit of a feel good story and as such is getting some attention.
A new environment and some sustained senior game time is sometimes all that's needed for players to flourish. Both Witts...
We could have saved our first pick last year if Witts had been willing to be a part of the Treloar trade, but he backed himself in at Collingwood and played out his contract. Credit to him for backing himself, but it meant that we really didn't get the value for him that we should have. You guys...
