And now the Kenyan Olympic Athletic team manager has been sent home after bribery allegations - https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/aug/07/kenyan-athletics-chief-sent-home-claims-bribes-dope-test
He allegedly offered to give tip-offs about upcoming tests and advice on how to avoid detection...
Considering Dyson's mental gymnastics he has displayed previously, I think it might be like the details finally given to Hal, where all it lists is 'amino acids'. So then Dyson can say he does have written info on what he took. It's just not detailed enough to be worth the printer cartridge that...
He admitted that he was wrong in those respects. I actually saw someone who was taking responsibility while explaining where his mindset was at the time. I have sympathy for the way he was treated and I can understand a rookie player ignoring the training they shouldn't have. So I can have...
That particular sport tends to attract intelligence as well. So far those athletes in my sisters club who have done their year 12 haven't achieved lower than a 90 TER. ;)
Any responsible coach will also educate their athletes if they are likely to be tested above and beyond. My family is heavily involved with an Olympic sport and when a 9 year old athlete told a family doctor that they had to get the substance checked against the list before they would take it...
You do realise that one of those judges selected was by the 34 players? So they selected badly?
There was one other that was selected by WADA and the third was selected by CAS.
Hence the AFC asking Professor Norton, who was a consultant with the club, when Dank approached them before he started working at Essendon. So at least the AFC did a background check in that respect!
I do believe that Professor Kevin Norton referred to him as a "snake oil merchant" when he came knocking at the AFC and tried to get them to employ him. Professor Norton was one of his supervisors of his aborted attempt at a PhD.
As someone who was involved in gymnastics at the time, it was bad for Raducan, yes, but she cheated. The pseudo-ephedrine improves balance which is highly important in gymnastics, especially Women's Artistic gymnastics. Anyone involved with gymnastics knows that the former eastern-bloc countries...
And oddly he was the leadership group member who raised the concerns about the program with the coaching staff etc, as named in the CAS judgement. Very odd for someone who apparently has no issues with the program, his actions show otherwise at the time.
But suspended players in that season get to serve their time during the season, so miss games. Those games they don't play in, they can't get votes. They can then get votes for games they played well in, but the umpires know they will be ineligible. The Essendon players though should not have...
Further to this, if they secretly thought that the penalties were for doping, then why did they not protest after the AFL Tribunal results for being punished over something that they were now 'innocent' of? Their silence says otherwise.
It was not a cannabis derivative drug. It was an inhibitor that can activate the same neural pathways as cannabis does. There was full and proper informed consent from that I can understand from that Clinical Phase 1 trial which are designed to test safety in healthy people to drugs. Obviously...
Informed Consent and how it applies in Australia - https://www.alrc.gov.au/publications/10-review-state-and-territory-legislation/informed-consent-medical-treatment
The second point is where I think Essendon and Dank are in trouble
10.48 ‘Informed consent’ refers to consent to medical treatment...
Which is why, if this gets enough signatures to be significant, then you forward the petition to the major sponsors of the AFL etc. to get their attention as well.
I'm not hopeful either, but signing a petition doesn't cost anything and at least if you are annoyed at the AFL it gives a chance to add a voice to show the AFL that we aren't happy with their response.
It is probably best to aim first for things that the majority will agree about, which is what we considered when drafting the text. Didn't want to get it too bogged down in details. Attention is needed first, then we might be able to change the goal posts if there is enough traction.
For those who are interested - a petition up calling on the AFL to show strong leadership towards a clean and strong competition.
