On the not being first ruckman thing I thik the reason is that Connolly is trying to fit 3 ruckmen into a team. Sandilands can do nothing but ruck (i.e. no flexability) and J Lo is good a a floating ruckman type and has had two/three years at FF/CHF and hasn't suceeded. J Lo can't kick outside...
