I actually love Derm, explains the game like he's trying to teach the viewers something, like there's a genuine care behind his commentary for the people at home.
The Late Show has some of the best Australian comedy ever imo, and this is coming from someone who watched it later in life as I was about 3 or 4 when it originally aired, lot of their skits still hold up really well even today.
to be fair Gleisner wrote a lot of the scripts, was never the best performer. Rob Sitch and Tony Martin the best for me, Martin and Molloy's bits together were always brilliant too, brought out the best in each other.
Is there any accountability for 7? They pay the most cash, they get the rights, the AFL should be the one concerned that their broadcasted product is bog standard. Having a pay TV channel as the secondary broadcaster was also a bad move too, but, money.
I really miss the interviews on Before the Game, they usually had lesser known players and they always came across as genuine, especially in the age of cliched media responses.
They delay coverage of football matches so they can lead into the news for higher ratings, says it all really, it's just about maximising revenue, who gives a crap about the quality of the product. Friday nights coverage started off with the line "Welcome to Carlton Draught Friday night...
Amazing how much Sevens broadcast quality has declined since the record TV rights deal was made, you'd think they'd want to produce a better product to reflect what they paid, but clearly not.
Part of the reason why so many people mute the TV commentary, and turn on the radio. Radio commentary just seems that much better, and despite the fact that you can't see what's going on, you feel (or at least I do) more immersed in the game. I guess with radio there's less room for ego, and...
Agreed. Caro, Lyon and Hutchy all have too big of an ego and the fourth member suffers. Always felt sorry for Glenn Archer, probably not the most comfortable on TV, but whenever he spoke, always said something of value, similar to Lloyd, but the other three just never let them!
Worst web player I've come across, diabolical website in general. Then again, the AFL are always behind in technology, SD broadcasts and not even forking out cash for a camera on the goal line.
The inclusion of Mick Molloy on the Saturday night coverage was a poor choice. Huge fan of Molloy in his Late Show and Martin/Molloy days, but he's a bit past it now.
It is an embarrassment of a website. It seems the AFL are behind on technology across the board, a faulty streaming app, not pushing for high definition for ALL matches, and an awful website in terms of design, content, and usability. You never ever hear about it from the media at all though...
