Foxtel deal to caused delayed telecast for some SA and WA games

Foxtel are paying about $1.3 billion over six years for their rights and they obviously want more subscribers in WA and SA. The AFL agreed to this and its not an unreasonable thing given that Victorian fans get nowhere near 19 live games for their teams on FTA.

The Herald Sun now calls soccer football

That is just plain wrong. I'm sure there will be Wallaby matches there (currently played at Subiaco) and the FFA will have the opportunity to schedule matches there including those involving the Socceroos and A-League finals. If soccer and the rugbys can put on events that attract the crowds...

    FTA-TV 2012 Ratings

No doubt we will have a twilight GF soon. It's a no brainer from a ratings point of view.

    FTA-TV 2012 Ratings

The presentations commenced at 5.30 when there are far more people in general watching TV than at 2.30. It's not really that surprising.

They are not. The Oztam website clearly shows that on their national subscription coverage map . It's a population of about 700k+ who don't get counted. http://www.oztam.com.au/CoverageMaps.aspx

FTA-TV Home and Away TV Ratings Summary 2012

3 weekends of the Olympics would have had a significant impact.

    FTA-TV 2012 Ratings

Highest rating digital channel progamme in Sydney on the weekend. On another note, the strong ratings for Fox Footy continue. In the week 12/8 to 18/8 it was easily the highest rating pay tv channel picking up 3.1% of subscription viewers nationally (Fox Sports 2 - 1.9). Interesting to see...

13k for Sunday NRL in Melb, Ade and Perth - that's shocking even for a digital channel.

    FTA-TV 2012 Ratings

Good work Wookie. My only query is whether the Bris/Syd figures are really down. Putting matches on 7Mate rather than the main channel has depressed the ratings but it has also meant that a lot of the figures aren't publically reported. The Talking Footy website doesn't show several...

    FTA-TV 2012 Ratings

The same match in the same timeslot rated 541k in 2010 and 613k in 2011 in Melb/Ade/Per. Taking into account the Foxtel simulcast, this year would have been the highest in total despite the Saints indifferent form leading in. Given the huge popularity of The Voice, Masterchef shows and their...

    FTA-TV 2012 Ratings

They would be delighted - it's ridiculous to state that average viewership means nothing as they make some money from advertising and it's a strong indicator of why people are subscribing. I know part of the reason why I subscribe is to have access to Fox Footy replays and the talk shows...

NRL's $1 billion deal in shatters

What a load of crock written by yet another RL hack. It will be the AFL's fault if the NRL doesn't get what it wants for its rights! The AFL got lucky twice in a row on its TV rights! I love the Packer myth still being rolled out by the jealous RLers. KP would have...

    FTA-TV 2012 Ratings

Once again Fox Footy is easily the best rating subscription channel for the week 22/4 to 28/4. It secured 3.6% of subscription viewers placing it well ahead of Fox 8 and Fox Sports 2 both at 2.3%. There are also some interesting figures available for total channel share in each of the 5 city...

    Point:Counterpoint in Western Sydney

This Murdoch paper is headquarted in Surry Hills, Sydney. Interesting, given their location that they have published such homophobic crap. I look forward to their next opinion piece talking about this site being called "Bigpoofy" by RL supporters.

    FTA-TV 2012 Ratings

In the week 8/4 to 14/4 Fox Footy did even better than the previous week securing 3.6% of subscription TV viewing well ahead of Fox8 (2.5%) and Fox Sports 2 (2.4%). http://www.oztam.com.au/LatestAvailableReports.aspx

    FTA-TV 2012 Ratings

Decent rating (65k) in Brisbane for a GC game considering their start to the season, that it was on a multichannel and was also on Foxtel. Shows that there is a reasonable base there for growth when they start to climb up the ladder. Dogs v Saints rating was poor but I can't blame any...

    FTA-TV 2012 Ratings

The full figures are now available for subscription channel viewing for the week 1/4/12 to 7/4/12 and they would delight Foxtel and the AFL. Fox Footy picked up a 3.1% share of viewing in subscription TV households. This compares very well to Fox 8 (2.5%) and the heavily NRL dominated Fox...

    FTA-TV 2012 Ratings

Given the absymal 2-3k ratings in Perth (a larger city with more expat NSW/Qlders) it wouldn't surprise me if this is because the matches rated a donut in Adelaide.

    2011 GF ratings 2.6 million

Here's a link to another article this time stating that the game averaged nationally 3.625m with a peak of 4.185m. We will have to wait for further evidence to see what these figures are made up of but I suspect the other reports that have come out leave out Tassie and/or regional WA. I...

FTA-TV State Footy on ABC TV looks finished

Very good rating for the ABC on a Sunday arvo I would think for the VFL grand final (149k). Should help the negotiations. http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2011/09/week-40-4.html

NRL Streets Ahead Of The AFL - Rebecca Wilson

Certainly the Storm game was not on in Mt Gambier for example but I'll give you WA. The difference in AFL/NRL ratings in all these areas would be huge. http://www.ourguide.com.au/tv_guide.php?r=MountGambier&d=11092011&t=3

NRL Streets Ahead Of The AFL - Rebecca Wilson

The number of NRL supporters in these markets is miniscule compared to the number of AFL viewers. Whilst the Storm game was shown live in Tasmania yesterday it was not in regional WA or SA. It is not true that regional WA or SA have regular NRL games shown other than after midnight. Whilst...

NRL Streets Ahead Of The AFL - Rebecca Wilson

The metro+regional TV figures quoted above exclude Tasmania and also regional WA and SA. That's about 1.3m people living in regional Australia that is Australian Football heartland. On average that's probably up to 200k viewers for each game not being counted in these figures especially with...

NRL Streets Ahead Of The AFL - Rebecca Wilson

Looking at the TV guides in each state the arvo game coverage went for 3 1/2 hours and the night game coverage for 4. Each game had long after match coverage when viewership reduces dramatically. If the averages were only given for 3 hours in and around the game they would have been...

    Vale Bill Jacobs

I'm 43 as well and very much remember listening to Bill on 3AW. He was a pretty no nonsense guy and not into the showbiz. A good special comments man who contributed to the game and many people's love of it. R.I.P.

FTA-TV 2011 AFL TV ratings thread part 2

NEWSFLASH: RL more popular in Brisbane than AF! The Lions game was earlier in the day (when ratings are generally lower) and was also live and ad free on Foxtel. The Lions are having their second abysmal year in a row. I think the ratings for them are holding up quite well in the...

FTA-TV 2011 AFL TV ratings thread part 2

True it was poor, but it rated far better than the Hawks v GC game shown the Saturday afternoon before as that game rated just 280k nationally and just 97k in Melbourne. Given how completely crap we have been this year compared to the Hawks I think our Melbourne ratings weren't that bad...

FTA-TV 2011 AFL TV ratings thread part 2

It doesn't include the ONE figures which would have added roughly around 90k to the total, but the Haw - GC match on the Saturday afternoon would have to be easily the lowest rating AFL match ever. Appalling ratings particularly in Melbourne.

    "Crazy Fossy" at it again!

In October last year, matches between Italy and Serbia had to be abandoned because of the violent behaviour of Serbian fans. The unruliness of Serb supporters did not reach that level at Docklands but there were a number of incidents involving flares that could seriously have injured people and...

Not crap. I've been a Victory season ticket holder for the last 5 years and the guys I go with are all members of AFL clubs. Of course they are not as popular as AFL clubs but they've attracted crowds of 50k and players such as Thompson and Muscat have become pretty well known. My post came...
